@TheKirbster12 nope, it was a downhill hanging lie. The only way to ensure solid contact is to drive down and through the ball, which produces a large divot. The clip cuts off before you see how close he hit it.
@sikwitit18 the golf balls back then were actually really soft, they just didnt launch as high as prov1's do and the greens werent as groomed as greens today are

@gatoralley01 To quote from Dodson's biography - from 1940
"Over 216 holes of competition, in three straight tournaments, he was an eye watering 34 under par, breaking 70 on all but two of the twelve rounds. During this violent assault on Old Man Par, he three putted just two greens, both in Asheville, and, maybe most amazing and revealing of all, missed only two greens in regulation over the entire stretch of play."
@gatoralley01 Hogan in his prime with modern equipment, I'm not sure he would have an equal but it's too difficult to compare generations due to advances in training technology etc.
Today everyone trains as much as he did but he forever changed the game with his training regimen and who's to say what the state of the modern swing would be without him?
Maybe he could have come along today and changed the game just as much? He was special but there have been others too.
flat is a relative term. remember this guy was only 5'6" and played with basically the same shaft lengths as taller guys for the extra length. anyone hogan's height will look flat compared to vijay
clearly not! he just hit down on it so much.. as u can see with the backspin when it hits the green... i'd love to see you create that amount of backspin with those clubs and balls!
not true.. those old balata balls and such generated more spin than todays ball.. tiger said so himself.. todays ball launches higher with less spin.. the way they got the ball up back then was through generating spin
what pros are you watching almost all pros take divots that big with their wedge this clip shows how great Ben was at striking the ball and pinching it into the grass to create backspin
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yeah - how not to swing a wedge with precision. There's not one pro anymore that karate chops the ball anymore like that (nice divot chopper - brought up oil with it)
these videos show great characters in real actions...I thank you because I used to see only the static ones in books and magazines..you learn something here
he is flat and short
bensteeley 7 months ago
@bensteeley back then it was a good shot just to get on the green. you also have to realize he might've been playing it intentionally short.

I have lots of old videos from majors and I convert them to AVI files.
Just google Hogan and see what you come up with also check ebay for old videos.
Good luck
You can also catch the you tube clips using a you tube catcher.
