@EthicalMorals Very sorry indeed to hear that. . Some vets think that some cancers can be provoked by injuries, changes of lifestyle and diet etc. Depends what you read. But like us humans I suppose cancer is a Russian Roulette. Lack of sleep ceratinly won't be a factor for greyhounds ;) I guess its best to be a dog, they don't dwell on these things, they just live for the day :)
we only let these two off in enclosed areas. They all just love to run, don't they :) In the UK the greyhound groups tend to advise on enclosed areas only as well for ex-racers.
@acmoc they eat a lot less than you'd think. they are very low-maintenance dogs. they have hardly any health problems, and when you get one through a rehoming organisation they have usually been microchippoed, and have full health checks, and been neutered. They are very healthy dogs when they come off the track. Usually all they want is a donation. Best dog you will ever have.
Whenever I let mine off his lead he won't go anywhere, just tries to bash his muzzle off against my leg. He will run if I start running, usually he runns off in a loop then straight back to me.
@hillman122 - our big one is the same, its taken ten months before he'll get into a car without being lifted in, then he comes out as though its a starting box ;)
@tamaramacrae1990 the muzzles were on just to protect any small dogs or cats that may have been there. Most ex racing greyhounds have a high "prey drive" and will try to catch their next meal if they spot anything small moving. They are absolutely friendly and love people, children and most other dogs, but anything else small and not on a lead gets tagged as "prey".
They are gorgeous! I would have been scared they didn't come back, I've never had a greyhound but would love one or two! Which branch did you get them from?
@TheMissChloe98 both came through Cornwall RGT, both retired same time from Oxford. they say two are much easier than one, they are amazing dogs. When you read up on them they seem to good to be true, but they mostly live up to their reputation. If you get one, you'll lose a sofa ;) No two are the same. Wonderful animals.
Gain a Greyhound. Lose a sofa. I could'nt have put it better. Well said!

Most US Greyhound rescue groups make you sign an agreement that you will never let your dog off-leash, except in a completely enclosed area.
I'm lucky where I live there is a 40-acre, enclosed dog park. My Grey loves to go there and just run himself to exhaustion.
Beautiful dogs!

It's really good he runs straight back to you. running a big loop seems pretty normal for greyhounds. Usually anti-clockwise ;)
Don't think any of them really like wearing muzzles.
If he runs when you run it's a good sign - he sees you as his pack leader and wants to run with you, and thats why he comes back.
