  • WHAT IS THE NAME OF THIS HAND HELD INDUCTION HEATING SYSTEM AND WHERE CAN I GET ONE??????!!!!!! Seriously, would this work for welding 2 peices of tarp together using an electrically conductive glue??

  • It is called the 10kW Slimline Induction Heating System. It is built by Ajax TOCCO Magnethermic. Induction heating equipment is used all the time for bonding applications, but usually with melal or electrically conductive substrates. It is possible to inductively heat adheasives, but the frequency of the HF current has to be greater than 1Mhz. This is typically referred to dielectric heating and is out of the range of this system.

  • @adammorrison75 So, even using a "metallic" glue, or something with metal in it, it still wouldnt work? Id only imagine id need a very small amount of heat to melt the glue and cause it to bond to, again, tarpaulin-like material....And while im waiting for a call back from ATM, mind if i ask how much you paid for the slimline?

  • The ability to heat the glue will depend on the size of the metal particles in the glue. The particles/grains will need to be a minimum of 0.003 inches (0.08mm) in size for our 450kHz system to be able to heat them. I would recommend a 3kW TOCCOtron 400 power supply for your application.   • @adammorrison75 but your saying it wouldnt work, because the tarp would have to have metal edges or metal flakes in the edges?

  • Metal flakes/particles would have to be present in the tarp and/or the adheasive in order for induction to work in your application.

    You don't need eddy currents for that kind of application. Hysteresis of ferromagnetic particles is enough for "glueing" plastics (but the maximum temperature is Curie temperature without path for eddy current). For example hysteresis is used in thermotherapy (type of cancer treatment, under development) with magnetic nanoparticles. Freq in that application is about 100 kHz and Fe2O3/MgO particle size is 10 nm.
