  • Who is Louis Lewandowski? This is the first time I hear his name. I love it.

  • Fantastic! I'm glad this music hasn't descended into complete disuse and obscurity. As a Jewish harpsichordist and early music lover, I also appreciate the work you have done for the revival of Salamone Rossi's liturgical music. Do you also like Saladin, Grossi, Casseres, and Liddarti? What about "Dio, Clemenza, e Rigore"?

  • LOVE this!

  • this is not a bach chorale....it is supposed to be sung almost like a military song....there is completely the wrong emotion in this version

plus it sounds better with an all male choir

  • @rimskykorsakov08 : I respect your opinion, but it is your *opinion*. Given Prof. Jacobson's years of experience and credentials, it's his choice to interpret as he sees fit. You can disagree with his interpretation, and prefer it otherwise, but that doesn't make it *wrong*, IMHO.

  • @riverrafter247 hey...i wrote that two years ago...was a little immature back then..can fully appreciate this now - it is wonderful.

  • Way too slow!! This lacks drive and bounce, even the Zamir 1985 recording is under tempo. I know cos my synagogue choir sings this at Wedding Services.

  • Halleluiah..praise God in his holy name

Praise him for his mighty acts..halleluiah!

  • hermosoooooo!!!!!!!! muy bien!

  • absolutely spiritually moving>

    Thank you

  • This is one of my favorite pieces of synagogue music. We used to use it at services at my synagogue. We have given it up because the style of services is now less formal, but I miss this Halleluyah.

  • While I never heard the earlier recording, I agree with your latter comment. There's something to be said about a degree of spontaneity. I was there with SHIRAH (the female tenor in the tux) and later was a perticipant. They should have posted videos from that event here!

  • This June 2007 rendering is 18 seconds longer than Zamir's 1985 recording of it ("The Majesty of Holiness" HZ912). The earlier one drives, but this later offering is more majestic. Perhaps what we have here is the holiness of majesty. For a less sober rendering, get ahold of the live CD from the North American Jewish Choral Festival, where 400 drunken singers shmaltz it up after no rehearsal.
