  • wunderbares konzert - tolles musikwerk -

wünsche allen einen guten start ins neue jahr 2012 - lg gitte

  • How many people came here b/c of Casino?

  • THANKS FOR JOHANN!

  • Who are the members of this excellent choir? Stupendous piece!

  • @FRAGIORGIO1 I believe this is the famed Thomanerchor of St. Thomas' Church school in Leipzig...the very same choir which 300 years ago the immeasurable Bach directed....

  • @analogiest Thank you for your information. Best wishes.

  • Casino :D

  • Estoy anonadado!.

Salve Johan Sebastian!

  • music was more advanced back then...

  • This is so wonderfulllllllll! Thank you for posting it!

  • Are any of you aware that this piece is from the movie "Casino?" Thumbs up if you are.

  • Sublime.!

  • wonderful! i wish i coud sing ...

    "Soli Deo gloria!"

  • I love this piece -> Because it's the last one! xD

  • ei ivane golem si pederungel

  • My car just blew up.

  • y bach creo a dios...........

  • One of the greatest musical masterpieces ever....Bach's genius is to me a proof of the existence of God...

  • Bach, as always, from other world, higher than this

  • excellent

  • When was this filmed?

  • @dantheman992004 I think so 1980-2000

    check out the glasses

  • @xX666Liana666Xx They must have had the same optician!

  • "Ahogados en lágrimas,

    nos sentamos sobre la tumba

    y exclamamos: descansa en paz,

    que en paz descanses.

    Descansad miembros ensangrentados,

    descansad en paz.

    Vuestra tumba y sudario

  • I'm not a religeous person either, but love everything apertaining to it: the music, the architecture - what is not to like? - apart from the blue-rinse babble fondling a bishop.

  • this is the greatest song , prayer and Creativity ... God really speak to us with bach language

  • @olifricke

    ¿Que lengua es eso?

Was ist das für eine Sprache?

  • AMEN!!

  • I envision heaven to be like this!

  • @1946frans I agree that Ton Koopman is fantastic and I hear his version often, but this one is at the same level in my opinion. Best regards

  • @aljoscha24 Endlich mal jemand, ders versteht !

  • best version on youtube. reminds me of when i got to visit thomaskirche...so beautiful!

  • This music is sure powerful. Especially if your morning the loss of a loved one.. *sad

  • Bach : elect twice. One, by the grace of God, and secondly, by the bulk of classical musicians.

  • Notice the disciplined phrasing in the choirchildren as an instance.

  • Gracias Vonpre por traduccion, thanks Lefekir for trasnlation. It helps to appreciate better Bach's perfect sense of connection between music and words.

  • My spelling error: should read - your grave and headstone . .

  • I like how it ends here.

  • Euer Grab und Leichenstein

    Soll dem ängstlichen Gewissen

    Ein bequemes Ruhekissen

    Und der Seelen Ruh

    Ruhet sanfte, sanfte ruht!

    Slatt, der Seelen Ruhstatt sein

    Höchst vergnügt, höchst vergnügt

    Schlummern da die Augen ein

  • Please, could you translate this into english? Thanks

  • (1)Llorando nos postramos

    ante tu sepulcro para decirte:

    descansa, descansa dulcemente.

    Descansad, miembros abatidos,

    descansad, descansad dulcemente.

  • Your gave & headstone shall be a comfortable cushion for a troubled conscience - and peace for your souls; Quiet, quiet rest in quiet; be a resting place; cheerful most, most cheerful your eyes shall slumber [my own free translation]

  • Wir setzen uns mit Tränen nieder

Und rufen dir im Grabe zu

    Ruhe sanfte, sanfte ruh,

    Ruhe sanfte, sanfte ruh!(x2)

    Rüht, ihr ausgesognen Glieder

    Ruhet sanfte, ruhet wohl! (x2)

  • Sublime!

    ¡Asombrosamente humano y divino!.

  • absolutely splendid performance. Comparable to Richter's

  • casino. best film.

  • wie dit niet mag kan bieten eten!

  • ¡Increíble e impresionante!.

    Honor y Gloria a JSB.

  • No, Sam! Don't turn the key to the car, Sam! They rigged it with a bomb!!!

  • Explanation, pls?

  • Watch the first 5 minutes of Casino.

  • thanks

  • No the last ...10 ;) Prfect movie!

  • Divine

  • That's the whole idea LOL

  • Poor sound quality!!!

  • great music!

    bach is genius.

  • Wunderschön

  • I am so sad to be living in a country where one can not hear this music performed live on Good Friday...it is not even a public holiday here. Thanks to this lovely video I can at least share in the deeply religious spirit of this day!

  • göttlich

  • It says "We are sitting down with tears in our eyes and say to you while you lie in your grave 'rest softly, softly rest'" Well, this is not a perfect translation, but I can't do better. I'm just a german student. ;-P And I do love this music, really! Bach was a great componist and I'm going to sing this as soprano today and tomorrow evening. Yee, I'm nervous! But it will be wonderful. :-)

  • I would replace 'softly' by 'gently' for a more literate approach.

  • The official translation: We sit down in tears - and call to thee in the tomb: rest softly! softly rest! Rest, ye exhausted limbs, rest softly, rest well. Your grave and tombstone - shall for the uneasy conscience - be a comfortable pillow And the soul's resting place. Rest softly, softly rest! In the utmost bliss there our eyes shall fall asleep.

  • "When you love someone, you've gotta trust em', theres no other way. You've got to give them the key to everything thats yours. Otherwise whats the point? -And for a while, i believed, thats the kind of love i had." -BOOM!

  • Have anyone seen Casino?

  • Indeed - that's where I was introduced to this wonderful piece.

  • A beautiful rendition of a beautiful work. I love the phrasing.

  • I´ve been in children choir about 5 years ago...And we presented this perfect creation with OSESP foundation, in Brazil. This was one of the most touching experiences of my life...I´ll never forget this.I adore Bach. The greatest composer ever.He is my happiness and my hope!

  • very special music

    how does the title translated?

  • "We bow our heads in tears and sorrow"

It's the final chorus from St. Matthew's Passion, lamenting the death of Christ.

  • that makes sense...

    thank you

  • Love this part. It's amazing when you see this performed in a church, and towards the end this comes. Wow!

  • 7 years ago.. i was 20 and in love.. i took from the shelves "The Sorrows of Young Werther" by Goethe and put this masterpiece from Bach on... i was reading and listening as i never did it before.. all the senses were at a level untouched until than.. i was in total awe.

A day that i will remember until i'll die.

  • ¡Optimo!

  • This is great, but I prefer Karajan's version

    *hides*

  • Fantastico

  • We are very lucky people, being able to share this kind of supreme art thanks to the internet. How could Bach imagine, 300 years ago, that his music would be played so far from his home, for so many people he would never meet, so many years after his life? I'm very very sorry for those who could not know his music. We're really very lucky in being here wright know. It's our duty to show it for the new generations...

  • You said it!

  • This is a great work. However, I think the name of the director is not correct, please help me to re-check. I think this is Stephen Cleobury, with the Cambridge Kings College Choir and the Brandeburg Consort. There is a DVD of this work, and I have seen it before. Thnx!!

  • Soo great!

  • nice speed. and dynamically perfectly performed. good job.

  • i'd love to write something as magnificent as what i see and hear whenever i hear this piece, but i haven't even a minusha of the knowledge needed to speak intellegently on the matter.

So, i'll just say this; This piece sets the barometer for other works of art to measure up to, and simply put, it's AS GOOD AS IT GETS!!! Bravo! Bravo! w/an eternal encore!!!

  • Amazing final

Genial!!

  • I was singing this Passion as a member of choir..........it was just....beautiful

  • yea, me 2

  • lucky..x

  • diamonds aren't for everyone,i thank god ,for ths jewel.

  • I'm not a very religious man, but for some reason, I love religious music; there's something about it.

Bach's religious music is no exception either - it is absolutely amazing.

  • Bach pasion is religious but no mystic or hysteric or apocalyptic and that's why this passion is perhaps the best expression of sentiment of jesus'passion; no sentimental, no etc...

  • @Debussy07

I'm not religious either (if anything, I'm anti-religion) but I like to listen to Bach's religious music, he was truly a master of voice leading.

  • How did he do this?? How is anyone able to compose such heavenly music? It hits you in your very heart! At least mine. I nearly cry every time.

I heard this life in Mainz. It was so amazing! Bachchor Mainz sang it perfectly... Three hours seemed so short!

  • I cannot get enough of this video ... So moving..

  • Who is the conductor here? Goodman is principal violinist isn't he? who has the baton?

  • unbelievable.

  • A living proof that God exists. Thanks for the postage!

  • So true! How can so many churches and sects argue amongst themselves when they all can fellowship in music for the Almighty God?

  • ich don`t think so... creationist, oder was???

  • Yep! Simply awesome. I heard the Matthäus Passion live two years ago, and what you wrote is exactly what I thought afterwards! What He did for us is amazing - breathtaking.

And I´m gonna see the Matthäus Passion again tonight! Looking so forward to it!

  • As we kneel before his grave , holy silence, silence holy could be the ruff trainslation. True the tempo is just right, and the place is rather fitting. Bach was one of a kind sadly, we thank him for all that he left us. Thank you Johann Sebastian Bach

  • great to see a video of the performance, however the Chicago performance under Stolti just sounds more entrhalling.

  • greatest musical achievement ever ta

  • I want this played at my funeral. Though I prefer Leonard Bernstein's version (hard to find--NY Philharmonic, "In Deepest Grief," LP only!) Goodman acquits himself well here. I can honestly say that this piece of Bach's changed my life--for the better.

  • LB's version was released on two CDs awhile back and has his English translation on it ("In deepest grief")...I like his slower, statelier tempo.

  • c'est emouvante it's touching

  • This part of Matthaus Passion is used in Martin Scorsese film soundtrack «Casino» (1995).

  • I't a great song! I love it.. and I dont like the classic music.. but this one is great!

  • you are a good man bacholoji, thanx

  • Please try the version of Karl Richter from the early eighties...

  • Precioso. Tenía tiempo buscando este video.

  • Thanks for posting

  • Beautiful.

  • Nice !!!

I prefer it when Soprano and Alto are children.

  • I prefer adults

  • me too

  • Beautiful performance of one of the greatest human achievements -- Bach's St. Matthew Passion.
