The only thing Eva did when Peron was arrested was to go to prominent attorney Juan Bragmilia to get a Writ of Habeaus Corpus but he was afraid they would flee the country. Other attorneys turned her down.
I can't believe Biography got it wrong. Peron was not totalitarion because he did allow other parties to exist. He was an authoritarian dictator. They were both demagogues. It was Franco who invited Peron to Spain but Eva went instead. Eva Peron was a monster who recited violent rhetoric to espouse Peronism. She was vengeful and vindictive. She was the basic cause of his arrest. Her Foundation got its money through extortion.
@1tomkev what do they know? They are americans... First they believe south america is another continent and second they think that cuz we speak spanish we all eat tacos like in Mexico, no offenses to the mexicans but I HATE/DESPISE TACOS
One thing, I'm not saying it's okay, but totalitarian governments had started way before Perón, he didn't stop that, which is indeed wrong, but he did do some stuff others would have never done for the people. I'm not all that sure about my position, but I think that although Perón's government had countless flaws (not that many, actually, if you consider the year), it was the best since, and a great breakthrough for Argentina.
You obviously have no idea what your position is if you call Peron a totalitarian ruler. Read some history moron, he was a populist leader who was legally elected president NOT a totalitarian dictator. Convservative revisionist call him a totalitarian because he did good things for the popular classes and acted against the elite oligarchic class. Really, read some history.
A totalitarian ruler is a ruler who takes total control over their country, regardless of how they came to power. Stalin and Hitler were also legally elected, Perón was just less harsh about removing his opponents.
Eva never organized the 17 October 1945 rally. She was at home by Peron's request. He didn't want her to get involved in anything and stayed home while the rally proceeded.
@TheNaomiengland Finally!!! Someone who shows the truth!!! No one really believes that Eva is a saint, but she WAS!!! Sorry if I seem a little defensive about Eva. I'm a supporter of her and will do anything to defend the slander against her.
@VanitasxAura I like you. When I was in High school wich I hated by the way. A stupid cow was bitching at me because I was reading the real like of Eva Peron. People have no ideal how Evita suffred when she had cancer. Evita was a amazing woman.
@VanitasxAura I'm argentine and believe she was no saint. She wasn't bad either, she had good intentions but a lot of her actions (though mostly her husband's actions, really) brought great problems to the country, mainly lack of funds, corruption and political violence. She might have meant well (not always) but she didn't do as well as mot credit her.
@kgldude Well, everyone has their own opinion and I respect your opinion. It's always interesting for me to see what everyone has to say about the Peronist regiment. Personally, I think that Peron did go a little overboard by using the military to handle some situations. Not a good idea.

@iamagodX Well you shouldn't believe everything that is said about a woman who is now a myth. Lamarque's story had changed many times throughout her life & biographers contradict each other & many stating downright lies. I have a biography that states Evita kicked out of the country Hugo del Carril around the same time of Libertad Lamarque. Hugo was a HUGE admirer and close friend of Eva Peron & was never kicked out of the country. The lengths people have gone to discredit her is extraordinary.
I think in the first moment make it sense that she could just acting, seduced by the power and status, but after a while when she became more involved into politics she changed and decided to do something more than be just a first lady dressed in fancy clothes, I have no doubt that she really wanted to change the life of some people as she could see herself in the same situation before.
Some people have said that this was biased against Evita, but I don't agree. I think it shows everything she did, the good and the bad. My name may say evaperonfan, but I don't deny the bad things she did. She was a very complicated woman, and should not be whitewashed or blackened. This documentary does say some very true things, and is one of the most balanced accounts I have found. The other account of her life I recommend is Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron and Eva Peron by A.D. Ortiz

Evita donated 100,000 francs to the victims of Auschwiz and Dachau. So that shows she wasn't a Hitler fan.

wow. She sounds kind of petty, driving people out of the country who had slighted her once.

@iamagodX True, but something tells me a lot of people who rose to power later lashed out at those who wronged them in the past.
