Canned Heat is the most over-looked, underrated, unappreciated band of the late 60's! The summer of '67 had this group on FM radio equal to Hendrix, Cream, Stones, Beatles, Iron Butterfly, etc. Alan Wilson is one of the Greatest harp players of all time and his Robert Johnson concept of guitar playing was way before it was fashionable. Fito drums with such finesse and concept! The Bear Bob Hite was so engaging and in command! Henry Vestine Zappa's original guitarist is awesome! Larry Taylor (-:!
We played this song as a garage band, along with rollin and tumblin, dust my broom, catfish blues, amph.anne, etc dont forget the dead, quicksilver, moby grape, country joe,and all the old famous blues ledgends.
I can't help but feel that the rhythm to this song is familiar. I think that maybe another band took the riff and put it to another song. Anyone think that this song has a familiar feel to any other songs out there?
@ScottProvin - I remember that, back in the day, when La Grange was first released, the cool radio stations hated La Grange - said it was a piece of trash, ripped off from Canned Heat. Which I guess it was.
Smoking joints down at the pines listening to the Canned Heat Cookbook.....love the tokin' noises at the start of this song.....Full volume on this song...always.....and don't forget to BOOGIE !!! Thanks for posting......Great memories from a great band.

I remember going to the Shrine Auditorium exhibition hall on New years eve. The Mothers of Invention opened and when Canned Heat came on, The Bear road an elephant through the crowd up to the stage. The place was Packed and I remember being squashed against my neighbors as people made room for this elephant slowly walking toward the stage.
I know that Bob calls out "Have mercy!" at 6:40 but as a kid some 40 years ago i heard it as "Help!!! Nurse!!!" and now i still do and it makes me laugh to remember... what a fucking cool piece of music this is!
I'd have to friendly disagree with you but it might not be your fault as you may never have heard the song from1968/1969 "Refried Boogie." At 41 minutes long is the best of "The Heat." Because of the length, I don't believe we'll ever hear it on YouTube.

THE BEST CANNED HEAT SONG PERIOD!!! These guys were the coolest and its sad that half the members are dead. You can`t replace original members as good as these were no matter what.
I love the original WOODSTOCK clips from these guys.I was just born or I would have jumped on the stage with them myself!!! RIP fallen brothers of cool!!!

zeppelin's blues stuff was a joke compared to this. matter of fact the only british guy to play blues right was eric clapton.

Nevermind. I found it: Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" was the one that I was thinking about, besides "La Grange" by ZZ Top.

I saw Canned Heat at a local nightclub in 1974, the capacity was
around 500 or so, very interesting seeing them at a small
venue like that.

I remember this song from over 30 years ago. I would love to hear this again some day. 41 minutes of jam, awesome.

@mcscott1st 41 minutes, that would be epic. I'll have to look for that.
