I have always loved this song and recently I met this sweet, endearing young lady and didn't dream she would want to be with someone like me but she does. I sent this to her to let her know how I feel. I couldn't find the words to say it so I let Sweet Baby James do it for me. It worked!!!
This is a beautiful redention of Getting to Know You which is featured on Professional Caregivers of Alzheimer's as it is so fitting for caregivers receiving new residents with Alzheimer's. Thank you for this You Tube performance.
I had the CD "For Our Children" when I was very young. I am now a music major and when I sing this, my mom cries... Then again, so do I, if the mood's right. If you could post Little Richard's "Itsy Bitsy Spider" from the same CD, I would be most grateful!
James Taylor; god, how can you describe him? Didn't think anyone else would know (much less remember) this song. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
@AnimationDisney JT does not use auto tune. Does not need it. I have seen him in concert over 25 times and this guy is never off. Plus, auto tune wasn't even out there when he recorded this
James recorded this song at our studio nearly 20 years ago. He's a genuine 'treasure.' I believe this is a 'live' version of the song and not the album track for the Pediatrics AIDS benefit. Just the same, hard to find a bad song by James.
I love James Taylor --but his rendering of this song is not the best....he sounds "tired", melancholic and monotonous....all the more so if one considers that the original tune is a beaming and upbeat one.
"Getting To Know You" was originally written by Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers for The King and I. It was performed by; Nate Kreiswirth for the commercial.
The french version "Mon Beau Pays" was originally written by; Willie Lamothe. It was performed by: Nicolas Pellerin for the commercial.
It was given to me as a gift when i was three and I loved it! I'm almost 20 and i found it the other day in a box full of old days and it surprised me how i still new pretty much every word to every song. IF you haven't check out McCartney and the Wings video of Mary Had a little lamb. Classic.
i know but fab version though - heard it on radio 2 and took me ages to find the cd ( recorded 1991 in aid of elizabeth glaser pediatric aids foundation )
@landyachtfan79 well said ! he could just sit infront of me on stage and do nothing - i'd still be happy ! i've shaken his hand twice @ gigs ,if you get a chance checkout fire and rain on my channel live from edinburgh , i taped it from the front row - felt like he was singing to me , WHAT A MAN ! thanks x

Always loved this song--thought nobody could sing it like Julie Andrews, but we should have known JT could do it. This song is for Michael.

... what is it about Tea? It's mystical.
Whenever I hear the word 'tea' ... I feel like having a cuppa.
Earl Grey here I come.
James, any song you sing is 'my favourite'.

Thank you for your information. I also heard it one day on radio 2 and since then, every time I visit a record store I look for this song.
in this version James Taylor touches something. So sensitive and simple.
