piss on these lil 20 some year old college fux hating on bukowski.. the dude was a rockstar your nothing but an armchair critic on youtube- this mofo roamed the streets in poverty while you eat the rainbow bread your mom buys for you and your fratboy roomate
"The less I say the better I feel". Yet he's giving an interview. Go figure... So I say every man's ego get's in the way of his ultimate happiness. And so it goes.....
@jimbobklyn, what's the difference b/w Jay-z and Bukowski? they both do poetry about less than talked about issues in society. The only real difference is that Jay-z is a multimillionaire and likes to flaunt his success, whereas Bukowski would rather be left alone and out of the spot light.
@Merc7Destroy12 The problem: Any attempt to equate hip hop with poetry ignores the defining characteristics of each genre. Both are musical, but the music of rap is external to the words. That means its wordsmiths have much more in common with songwriters than they do with poets.
@PunkymickBlah Poetry can be created independently as you say, but it can be used in forms of lyrics or hymns. RAP is an acronym for Rhythm and Poetry. If you read the lyrics of any rapper, you'll see it is poetry. The fact that more elements like a beat or DJ scratches are involved doesn't take away the integrity of the stanza's as poetry
Wakeup, wash, shave, eat, run, drive, run again, drive harder, speed up the heart, shake the nerves, stretch the muscles, bang the wall, bang the time, grab your work, hold it, bite it, throttle the bread, the money, a stowaway, the whiplash of immunity, be absent material, of course a car, a house, a swimmingpool, mortgage, three children, a cat, a dog, a divorce, but sorry, I have to go, no time, busy, busy, shave eat drive run run again drive harder to the end, the eternal sleep.
I seriously think there is no difference between Bukowski and Oprah. They're both selling different types of bullshit. He's fortunate enough to have enough money to sleep for 4 days. He's a fraud himself and he would like my bullshit comment.
@cbarrett34 Fuck you prick. Even Sartre, the greatest french philospher said Bukowski was the greatest american poet of all time. Read Ham on Rye, one of the best novel ever. Have a little respect or go back to you're child rapist priest asshole.
@MrLeGardien Yeah, Bukowski was a great writer. Full Stop.
But he wasn't really a good person was he? So cbarret34 has a point. And you insult him and tell him to have a little respect? What is wrong with you? (no insult intended)
@MrLeGardien Yeah, Bukowski was a great writer. Full Stop.

@jimbobklyn1963 Per your sadness about bukowski not getting enough YOUTUBE views: Whatdya care if people are watching him or Jay Z. This aint a competition. Whats sad about it? You're talking about the tastes of the common masses. Look at the typical Jayz or rap fan as compared to a literary, underground type of personal taste. There in another realm. grow up
@flowerdoodle I think that's a little harsh telling him to 'grow up.' His point is that if more people were exposed to such wisdom, then maybe we'd be a little less moronic. YouTube is only the medium; it's not important how we are exposed, but that we ARE exposed.
@jimbobklyn1963 Jay-Z has mass appeal... If 2 milli were on Buk like they are on Jigga, the world would be that much more bleak and sorrow, and bitter
The gurus of pop new age want us to meditate, but of course such must be done after work, or on a retreat. Go, get away for a week. Take a plane, rent a hotel---5 Star, of course, you deserve it. It's the Chi Retreat going for five grand, you'll be saved.
Really? I never read that anywhere. Did you read that in any of his later poems??
Listening to this clip I'm still struck by how honest Bukowski is and how writers or celebrities won't go near a subject matter like this in public. It's taboo, they don't want to scare anyone off. Ooh.
What subject matter, sleeping? I love bukowski but I don't think what he was talking about here was that revolutionary, more like poetic drunken rambling with a tinge of truth.
But I read an interview with his last wife who was with him in his last year hospitilized from leukemia (during which he would still write profusely). They had a buddist monk come and show him how to deal with the pain through meditation. Before long Bukowski would be very disciplined in meditating daily. To him it was a similar experience to his daily horse-betting ritua,l both forms of meditation but he became very fond of it.

@Merc7Destroy12 Poetry, by contrast, must generate its music solely from poetics alone. No DJs. No beats. No samples.

Bukowski wasn't concerned with popularity, unlike the rest of America, he wouldn't care abt the number of views.
