A nice instrument no matter . . Learn to play and enjoy it. You'll have hours of fun if you just give yourself time to learn . . so be glad you did. I'm sure your father would be happy ; )
I have my dad's mother's Marine Band harmonica, and I taught myself how to play it. I'm not the greatest player, but I can play a few songs and people say I'm not that bad.... cheers dude!
learn how to play!. Look up vids on youtube. most guys will be playing diatonic harps but you can follow along on that, just remember 2 holes per note. Start simple and keep practicing.
my father (deceased) had one of these he brought it in late 1920's brand new...my eldest son now has it and its still blowing well...hope that helps! the one we have has alot more paint on it tho..
I go to the SPAH convention every year (Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica), the biggest harmonica event in the world. They have lots of new and old stuff for sale. I'd guess that harmonica would be priced at $60 to $120, but probably wouldn't sell for more than $80. They still make similar harmonicas, namely the Hohner Echo.
Nice harmonica. I"d advise you to be sure to let it dry before putting it in the box. Harmonicas are full of spit after playing them, and if it doesn't dry out real well the reeds will corrode. I've bought harmonicas in antique stores and had reeds break from playing it. Also, don't blow or draw hard, that will wear it out.
actualy dude that is an old "H O NER" not honer echo, used for folk songs. new ones go for 100 if steal 150 if wood. it looks like its at least 50 years old if not older so its probly worth a good buck more like 200-250 by my guess not sure.
PS. my condolences for your pops. i just got an echo myself as well as 3 other blues harps all wood.
I have the same Harmonica but i don't know how to play it !! i didn't find any videos showing how to play the kind of harmonica
