not to be rude, but my combo band for grade 10, me (bass) 1 alto, 1 soprano a piano and drummer, i hope we dont sound like this, but keep going lol, horrible rythymn and bad harmonics, i think the trumpet was off at points, like half octave off, that or there was wrong chords
@tager22 we were pretty much screwing around. He was trying to play in parallel fifths, just spur of the moment, like a lot of things. I myself was just messing around and joking around with a reference to one of Herbie's live solos. But yeah, we were screwing around.

solos play with more confidence. also listen to some proffessionals play the song and steal thier licks thats how you learn the language of improvisation. its like talkin you gotta hear someone else do it first you also wont feel pressured to make everything up on the spot.

Also, the comment about the other pieces laying low when the soloist is playing, is true (of course, in this case during the horn ad libbing, I would have told the others to turn it way up, and the soloist to lay low) lol. Practice. Like I said 'not bad'.
We put this song together for our senior serve in less than a week. We play it Sunday I'll post it. I'm not sure how good it will really be because the band is not exactly school related.
As a drummer, I found a couple of things wrong with the rhythm section.
1. The drummer needs to move his toms so they're not angled in like that. I used to play that way, but laying the toms so that they're facing you more is much better after you get used to it.
2. During soloing, other insruments should lay back a little bit, especially during the keyboard solo.
I know you guys are improving, and that's what's important. Keep posting vids so we can see your progress.
actually dantehoward. if you really knew anything about drumming it is really all about personal experience and taste. sure. for you, the toms should be facing you because you clearly enjoy that more. but drumming is all about feel, and what feels right and comfortable for you. and actually if you face the drums towards you too much, the resonance of the drums can be disturbing for the audience (if they aren't miced up properly). redirecting that sound can give it a fuller feel.
Believe me, dudes, we sound a whole lot better now. Looking at this video makes me melancholy due to the fact that we actually sounded like this at the beginning of the semester.
Dont let these guys discourage you, you on the the right track and your playing the right music. Just don't give up cause as much as everyone else wants to rag on you, they really can't cause i'm sure they are not anywhere near their peak as musicians. Everyone has something they need to work on so KEEP PLAYING :-)

Hang on, how can you play latin when no one in the band has any sense of rhythm? Isnt that what latins all about?
