@kryptonbornson A. I make that very clear in the description. B. were you unhappy with the quality of the conversion. C. doing a real conversion would be difficult because some of the effects are added after the render, and it doesn't appear the Z- depth was the same in all the renderings, so you'd have do custom camera's for every shot with specific depth of field adjustments.
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom It's doesn't have any depth. Perhaps it's the resolution because it's not tricking the eyes at all. Sintel is free and open source. You do realize that if you want to use your spare horsepower you could just render the thing out with stereo cameras (they have stereo camera plugins for Blender) and just do it yourself fairly easily instead of using this move because it's free to push a product that at least on YouTube doesn't appear to work. I love 3D myself, but...
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom I've tried it full resolution. I've just notice Youtube resolution problems are very apparent with 3D, even using cross-eye. I rescanned through the movie and some part are more impressive than others. But even when there is good depth, the characters appear as flat planes like viewmaster. When you use true 3D one left camera, one right camera you can see actual texture in skin and rocks that shouldn't be there since the texture maps are flat 2D.
@kryptonbornson You are using Cross eye? That doesn't work. Cross eye doesn't do a True "3D" because your brain knows your eyes are not where they are supposed to be. I have to encode differently for cross eye, and since no one should do that to their eyes I won't.
Watch on a Real 3D tv 37inches or larger. Check Xdef dot TV for some explanations of why screen size matters.
@kryptonbornson Also remember these aren't 3D textures "for real" when you look at the scene on the roof Mine has real sense of texuture, the 2 eye rendering is still flat.
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom I don't know what kind of horsepower you have, but download a driver like the iZ3D driver and try it on a PC game like Tomb Raider. Even as old as that game is, it will pop very differently than this. The two slightly offset perspectives is what creates that effect. You have the same camera, but separated at eye distance is what created the flat, Viewmaster effect. And you would need to readjust the convergence shot-by-shot. Otherwise it's like you're watching it normally.
@kryptonbornson Not the same thing. and iz3d does a minimum of 4x the depth so things do "pop" but they don't look real. I can do that too, but again screen size matters too much.
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom If you've never tried it, just try it. I'm not trying to argue. There is a significant difference between real and simulated. Resolution helps trick the eye as well. That's why this Sintel one works better than the Space Shuttle one. Resolution alone, even without stereo vision increases the sense of depth. When Flickr let you view higher res images for free, I used to frequent the crosseye and anaglyph groups.
@kryptonbornson Dude. Google Me and Check my Xdef dot tv I pioneered the space I know more about 3D and 3d Conversion than all but about 8 people on the planed (James Cameron at the top of the list) And he has used my conversion tech.
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom ? 3D has been around for a long time. The camera I was using was an old Russian camera. The technology used now is virtually the same. Are you telling me you make lenses or something?
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom I'm sorry, bur regardless of what you might have done with software, you can't claim to have anything to do with iZ3D or any tech I've used.
@itouchhacker241 The colors in this one likely don't work well for red cyan. Especially with all the snow and the pail colors. I didn't optimize for that setup. And you get more depth on a larger screen... guessing your display is like 17 inches? not 42+ I may do a video about why that all matters, but there is an explanation on Xdef dot tv
@itouchhacker241 Try setting to Grey Scale, or Optimized color instead of Full color in the Youtube player, you should get better results, and play with running the brightness down on your monitor so you get less bleed through.
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom I tried optimized color and it helped a little bit, I also am running my monitor with the brightness at 50% insted of the stock 100% and I did a basic calibration with the windows display calibration thingy. I am going to try it on a 40 inch sony tv and see how it looks
@itouchhacker241 Ok, then cyan. Also try them Upside down, sometimes the colors are swapped from what YT uses. But long story short, Red Cyan isn't very good for 3d.
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom yea I tried the swap eye thing and holding it upside down, although red cyan is not very good, its also not very expensive :D. I also tried it on a big screen tv and it worked a bit better
@kylepolansky I have to calculate the placement of every object in 3d Space based on the motion from several frames. "Optimize my render" is like saying. "You should learn to bend space time" When this is done by Hand for movies like Disney's "Alice" it took 15 minutes of humans time for every second of content. My software reduces production costs by MILLIONS of dollars, and your comment is "it needs to be optimized"
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom I guess I should learn the technology better. It seems that it would be a fairly simple process considering how fast video games render that have 3D objects in them. It seems like it's a lot better than doing it all manually.
everyone , if you have not figured it out yet, cross your eyes until they focus on the image and it will look like 3 images but the middle will be 3d and in focus whereas the outside wont, it is difficult at first but is awesome in the end
Really Great! But could you post it as a "real" Youtube 3D movie? My 3D-TV could handle side-by-side, but line-by-line looks much better and now there is no option to change it.
@GregorTheVIII I think Youtube had a bug, because it is posted as such and shows that way for me. Do you not have a red 3d button in the player?
It also looks like this is still under review, It is a big file and I have noticed that my 3d stuff doesn't always get the 3d player in the first few minutes on the short stuff, and hours on the big stuff.
This is not true 3D, this is just a conversion.

1 second of video takes 5 minutes to render, wow. You should get a faster computer or optimize your render engine.
