Great advice for tweens and teens who don't know how the heck to save thier allowance because they like to go to the thrift store/someotherrandomstore and go spend it all and then waste their time not doing their chores.
If you're really retarded at understanding your own budget like I am, I imagine envelopes with the amount of money you can spend per X number of days would work better. That way if you're spending too much, you notice immediately instead of towards the end of the month.
Not so fool proof. This does not work for all scenarios! If you pay a mortgage instead of rent. Like me. You can not pay cash if the mortgage company is not local. You can try to get a local mortgage company but mortgages get sold all the time. I am sure I can figure out some other scenarios, like car note. That the cash in the envelope budget just wont work. Maybe a little less PAR-TAY!! and the Epipheo would be able to see the whole picture that grown-ups have to deal with. Just my two cents.
Excpet if someone breaks into your home and steals your money because you didn't keep it in a safe place. If you don't want it in a bank because of the predatory lending crap, try a credit union - which remains non-profit and thus offers higher interest rates for allowig them to invest your money.
Here's a nice trick that works for me. Let's say you make €1500 a month and you have to spend €750 to pay your rent, bills, food etc.
In this scenario I put €500 on my savings account and then FORGET ABOUT. I act as if I have a €1000 salary, instead of €1500. Keep in mind that these number aren't necessarily realistic, but you get the picture. Has worked out great for me in the past.
Also, if you go and buy something like a computer, buy it when you saved up twice the amount it costs.
Or just use mint
