@Deed1992 Yeah in average but there is sometimes +25C (+77F) in warmest place in mars at warm summer day and it's usually -15 to -30 at night after that. It's now -3 C in my place and some time ago it was -27 here in Finland (I'm not alien or eskimo) It's +25-32C at summer O_o almost like in mars! Kinda... So warm Mars temperatures -25c and +25c aren't bad at all. Btw Mars rover found water from itself on mars so it was at least +0,1 at that time and btw it was normal water

There's so much money wasted on weapons production and "saving" banks, the automobile industry etc. that you could easily send tens of those landers to Mars and supply the whole world with water, food, technology, and schools at the same time.

Well, I don't think that colonization of our solar system should be started before all other problems (or at least the most important ones) are solved. Apart from the fact that money is the least problematic factor for the realization of such a project. We should take care that we're really ready for that first. It's useless if we only create "new earths" while repeating all the mistakes we mare on our own planet.
All the worlds problems will never be fixed not in a thousand years or a million plus my whole point about the private sector was that once the propper infrastructure is in place space industry & commerce will pay for it's self aswell as any exploreation & research.

To ministryofsynth: First off, NASA as a space program receives a very small budget and funding from the US Federal Government, so I hardly doubt that a Mars Rover such as Phoenix would cost "trillions" as you've stated. And likewise, the American people supprt NASA greatly as their money and tax dollars they feel are well spent. So let a social program take care of the poverty issue. NASA is doing just fine as it is without foreign interference.

Ironically, as you were typing that, Phoenix was making its way down safely, at almost the center of the targeted landing zone, in a practically perfect mission profile.
It's a slight poser as to how they can get the lander entry speed down to 150mph by use of a 'chute before it free-falls and fires its thrusters in the final part of the descent. Because, isn't the Martian atmosphere roughly only one-hundredth the density of that of earth.

They portray to us that the martian poles have ice just because we are accustomed to seeing our poles on Earth having ice and we may be mentally pre-configured to also beleive that anotehr planet will have ice on the poles as well, which is utterly a fallacy.

@6SpAr6TAN69 why would the whole planet be covered in ice? ice takes water, water may be scarce, nay it is scarce on the planet. look at google mars or any recent depictions of mars. theres ice caps on the top and bottom. the top and bottom of the planet just like earth is the absolout coldest region of the planet. which would mean that if ice is anywhere its there because it hasnt had a chance to melt and sink into the soil as it would with the rest of the planet.

ArabPeninsula, Mars is habitable by humans in a artificial environment i.e microclimate. Where there is water and the ability to manipulate hydrocarbons, then humans can go and live there. There would be major hurdles to overcome, but given time these hurdles would fall.

Even if the water was exist in Mars we can't live there because the Natural temperature up to -80 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature of up to -180 degrees Celsius therefore we can't live there and the reason is the existence of the climate variability.
That's mean nobody can live there and any planet outside the Earth.

The average temperature on mars is 227k or -46 celsius, the maximum is -5 so it is possible for humans to live on mars, just wear loads of coats :p, and you say no one can live on any other planet other then the earth, you seem to forget that there a billions of stars in our galaxy, with planets orbiting most stars, so that make billions of planets, and there are billions of galaxys so trillions of planets, probably more so what are the chance of Earth being the only planet to have life?

Antarctica has a very similar environment (temperature wise) as mars, people live on Antarctica, as for pressure there is less pressure on mars then there is on earth, The average air pressure at the surface of Mars is 6 millibars (compared to 1013 millibars on Earth) so your quite wrong

@Deed1992 Yeah in average but there is sometimes +25C (+77F) in warmest place in mars at warm summer day and it's usually -15 to -30 at night after that. It's now -3 C in my place and some time ago it was -27 here in Finland (I'm not alien or eskimo) It's +25-32C at summer O_o almost like in mars! Kinda... So warm Mars temperatures -25c and +25c aren't bad at all. Btw Mars rover found water from itself on mars so it was at least +0,1 at that time and btw it was normal water

There's so much money wasted on weapons production and "saving" banks, the automobile industry etc. that you could easily send tens of those landers to Mars and supply the whole world with water, food, technology, and schools at the same time.
Science is amazingly cheap compared to the unimaginable amounts of money thrown out for really auestionable purposes.

Well, I don't think that colonization of our solar system should be started before all other problems (or at least the most important ones) are solved. Apart from the fact that money is the least problematic factor for the realization of such a project. We should take care that we're really ready for that first. It's useless if we only create "new earths" while repeating all the mistakes we mare on our own planet.

I'm prety sure that flying to the stars changes nothing. Not substantially. Colonizing other planets doesn't make us superhuman/transhuman/non-human.
It's a bit like people who think they have to travel to Tibet to find themselves, which I also doubt would help or change anything.
For my taste it's a too optimistic and naive view that's very much influenced by science fiction stories among other things.

To ministryofsynth: First off, NASA as a space program receives a very small budget and funding from the US Federal Government, so I hardly doubt that a Mars Rover such as Phoenix would cost "trillions" as you've stated. And likewise, the American people supprt NASA greatly as their money and tax dollars they feel are well spent. So let a social program take care of the poverty issue. NASA is doing just fine as it is without foreign interference.

What needs to be done to fix poverty is giving people jobs, and that isn't possible, at least not until you fix the governments that rule the people first. Look at Iraq. Look at the relief sent to Sri Lanka and Myanmar. We can't fix the world, no matter how hard we try. Now that's a real waste of money.

It's a slight poser as to how they can get the lander entry speed down to 150mph by use of a 'chute before it free-falls and fires its thrusters in the final part of the descent. Because, isn't the Martian atmosphere roughly only one-hundredth the density of that of earth.
