@BradenW454 I always say this , guitar chops are devided into 2 categories (Technical skills , songwriting) . Tosin and Jeff Loomis both play cleaner and faster than Alexi , and more technical ............ but how many memorable /unique riffs have they come up with ? Nothing close to Alexi :)

@TheDeathMetalMaster (1 of 2) well in your case (im assuming the amp is a combo) the speaker probably colours the sound alot, so when you remove that from the equasion you just get the output sound of the amp, which in the case of alot of combos is crap. in a professional studio like this one they will either have a direct output from the amp head (a krank one in this case, over 1000 £ and certainly not sounding crap on its own ;) or

@TheDeathMetalMaster (2 of 2) will mic the speaker cabinet using quality microphones in a completely colourless environment, an effect that simply isnt replicateable in most homes, if your planning on doing some quality recording its probably worth getting an audio interface so you can input the guitars signal directly into your computer and then use amp mod. software, youl get a better sound than is acheiveable if you throw an amp into the mix in a recording environment that isnt soundproofed
