@halfdeadbass As an eighties punk/metal head who stills loves listening to and watching genuine musicians perform, I'm surprised people still feel a little uneasy about how a group looks. Versailles are merely following in the footsteps of Alice Cooper, Blackie Lawless and Marilyn Manson. They are doing an effing great job at it too.

You may find the androgynous dress theatrics weird. But compared to The Plasmatics slutty dress stage performances they look quite respectable and tame.

Yoshiki is a better drummer.

Pata, Sugizo, Akira Takasaki (for sure!), and You are all better guitarists and composers. hide was not as skilled a guitarist, perhaps, but his compositions were good enough to be continuously stolen by Versailles.

Plus, Toshi's a beast on vocals. :)

@SuperMrToshi Are you kidding me? Have you ever heard hide when he was playing heavy metal for X Japan? The guy could blister the paint off the walls with his playing. I think Versailles guitar players are freaking awesome, but hide was a metal guitar player of the highest order, he just didn't seem to feel the need to have blistering metal solos for his solo stuff but even then he was a killer guitar player. And Yuki is a phenom drummer BUT all of the musicians from both bands are top notch!!

@Buzzramjet I don't mean anything bad towards hide! He WAS skilled. I know that, but he was not as good as Pata as far as technical level goes, nor was he as good as Sugizo. Pata did the fingerwork for X Japan. But, that doesn't mean I'm saying hide was bad--just not as good technically.

However, I think his composing was far more original and the best. =P His compositions...are indescribable!

@SuperMrToshi I understand what you are saying. But to me Pata is a much more laid back guitar player. He is indeed a phenom guitar player, but watching X Japan, hide always came across as taking the lead more often. His leads at their height were just incredible and to be honest, I would have to put them at an equal level. Sometimes I watch Pata and he is watching hide. But I understand how you come to your conclusion, I just think hide was one of the top guitar players of his time and even now

@Buzzramjet For sure, hide was much more charismatic and outgoing. In that sense, he beat Pata hands down. But, while hide was out in the front, Pata was hanging around in the back doing the fingerwork.

But, as many will say, it was the combination of the two that made X Japan really magical.
