Example, a man and woman play 50-50 responsibility (EQUAL) in her getting pregnant, but only she can make the ultimate decision (power) to carry the child to term and birth it (UNEQUAL). These are two different aspects, two different amounts of power.
I think men really need to do some serious self-reflection, before they try to put the burden on women. I just found myself shaking my head listening to this, especially about the part about a woman losing respect for a man who looses a fight? Aren't we better than this? None of you guys think the outmoded idea of "male pride" is some of the source of the problem?
Well that does happen, a woman won't have any respect if she see her man loses a fight, or if he won't stand up and defend her honor. People don't like to hear the truth but this what happens in this world we live in.
Well, I know it happens, that's why I'm very disappointed with many people. Perhaps people should be more discriminating about who they involve themselves with. I'd never date a woman who acted like that. Unfortunately, many women are socialized to behave this way. This is why I believe education is the best weapon to fighting this kind of bad socialization. We should be beyond "losing pride" for losing a fight with someone. This is 2009 A.D., not B.C.

So why is that many black men have a problem with Feminism? I mean, I'm a guy and I have no problems with the movement and philosophy(ies). It seems hat black men want to cling to old notions of patriarchal dominance as the only way to foster a productive society.
Black men have a problem with "Black Feminism" because there is misguided information that is given to black women who believe in this movement or those who believe in it are getting the wrong idea. They believe they should depower black men and not looking at pushing for equality.
That's where you're mistaken. Feminism isn't about "depowering" any male. It's about empowering women. There are some men that feel by doing this, this somehow disrespects the male, whom they believe should be the "head" of the social order.
I know its not about that, I said there is misguided info or they misinterpret what the movement is really about. And if women are involve with a man that make them feel inferior, why do they stay? If your in an umcomfortable situation you need to get out of it.
Yeah, I think the whole social dynamic is skewed. The whole man-as-sole-provider and woman as homemaker doesn't really cut it. I don't think it ever did. Women are socialized to respond to men who simply shower them with gifts. Is that love? I know for a great amount of Human history sexual relationships have often been this way, but can't we do better. That whole analogy with the drug dealer is just kind of sad...
Feminism wasn't created in response to white men. It's men period. There's no racial component to it. All women benefit from the philosophy. Also, while I think your point about the generalizations being fling around (I.E. all white men are loving, caring sensitive, and black men are not, ect) are true, I also think there is a very valid reason why women say things like that. Because by and large, black culture has a high degree of misogyny.
When it comes to the start of the movenment in the US it was started by white women because white men didn't see them as there equal. White men were the ones that were in control of this country. The only way your fighting for equality is if the ones who are in control, deounce your ablities, do not include what you can bring to the table so to speak. White people are and still the majority of this country. So its moreso that white women were in the front of fighting for equality.
I understand what you meant, but what I'm saying there wasn't a racial component behind it. Also, a lot of black women contributed to the early Feminist movement, especially. Fighting back against patriarchy was the goal, no matter which shade it came in. Even back then (especially) black women had a great share of problems. I just don't think we need to pair Feminism with "white" or "black" because that feeds into this notion I hear a lot that black women somehow don't "need" Feminism.

Help me understand why this makes since. IMO, having power in [different] aspects doesn't mean equal power --- it just means [different]. Example, a man and woman play 50-50 responsibility (EQUAL) in her getting pregnant, but only she can make the ultimate decision (power) to carry the child to term and birth it (UNEQUAL). These are two different aspects, two different amounts of power.

Well, I know it happens, that's why I'm very disappointed with many people. Perhaps people should be more discriminating about who they involve themselves with. I'd never date a woman who acted like that. Unfortunately, many women are socialized to behave this way. This is why I believe education is the best weapon to fighting this kind of bad socialization. We should be beyond "losing pride" for losing a fight with someone. This is 2009 A.D., not B.C.

Yeah, I think the whole social dynamic is skewed. The whole man-as-sole-provider and woman as homemaker doesn't really cut it. I don't think it ever did. Women are socialized to respond to men who simply shower them with gifts. Is that love? I know for a great amount of Human history sexual relationships have often been this way, but can't we do better. That whole analogy with the drug dealer is just kind of sad...

Feminism wasn't created in response to white men. It's men period. There's no racial component to it. All women benefit from the philosophy. Also, while I think your point about the generalizations being fling around (I.E. all white men are loving, caring sensitive, and black men are not, ect) are true, I also think there is a very valid reason why women say things like that. Because by and large, black culture has a high degree of misogyny.

When it comes to the start of the movenment in the US it was started by white women because white men didn't see them as there equal. White men were the ones that were in control of this country. The only way your fighting for equality is if the ones who are in control, deounce your ablities, do not include what you can bring to the table so to speak. White people are and still the majority of this country. So its moreso that white women were in the front of fighting for equality.

I understand what you meant, but what I'm saying there wasn't a racial component behind it. Also, a lot of black women contributed to the early Feminist movement, especially. Fighting back against patriarchy was the goal, no matter which shade it came in. Even back then (especially) black women had a great share of problems. I just don't think we need to pair Feminism with "white" or "black" because that feeds into this notion I hear a lot that black women somehow don't "need" Feminism.
