  • I mean to say a little darker, less bright without his wonderful voice.

  • I think Jerry Hadley was a beautiful singer. The world is a little less bright without his wonderful voice.

  • The fundamental frequencies (notes) he is singing are all accurate... the issue is one of resonance due to the vowel shapes he is using and his tongue position... also to skidiva1913, i appreciate what you are saying about Bernstein preferring him, but his voice might possibly have a different timbre and harmonic and resonance balance now compared to the last time Bernstein heard him sing it, so he wouldnt necessarily have thought the same of this particular performance

  • this man has sung this particular piece so many times: 4 versions with him on youtube, 2 cd-recordings (one with bernstein, one in 2005 which was not received very well) and so many performances on stage. so i think if there was one person who knew how to sing this piece, it would have been him.

  • I would like to point out that this is a really difficult song to do well. And they did it well. Fuck tuning.

  • @n3biker I know it well by ear. It just sounds slightly off. Ever so slightly.

  • You're right, there are a few spots out of tune. Hadley goes off on "we'll do the best we know" the "do" is under both times he sings it. Then a couple of times in the ensemble the tuning is not spot on. This is good but it is not really the rousing number it can be.

  • @skidiva1913 He isnt out of tune... You are listening for the wrong notes apparently. Just an FYI for you -- Hadley was Bernstein's personal favorite singing this piece, so if he was good enough for Bernstein, he was more than good enough for the rest of us.

  • He goes wrong on the duet bit!

  • @recantha Do you know the score that well? He doesn't go wrong at all.

  • Great voice, but i didn't believe that he loved her

  • @tndipinto it's an operatic staged reading. Who cares

  • A gem!

  • What a great voice on Hadley, but there was so much muscle.
