Now come off it! The original Bugatti works stopped production after the
Second World War. Twice they tried to get it back on the market again, but failed. Then Volkswagen bought all the Bugatti rights, developed this car, and really got Bugatti going again; and that´s it. There is absolutely nothing french about Bugatti except that it is being manufactured in that country, and thats for marketing reasons only.

In the beginning it was the project of VW self, to make this car. But it was too expensive for them (maybe because of the license), each complete car came to about 6 million euros. That's why VW sold this project to Bugatti.
I still dont understand why they use such a big ass motor. I mean top fual dragsters here in america can put out over 4000hp and they use V8s. Big ass V8s. But that just seems like too much weight in my opinion.
4000 hp V8 has shorter life expectation because of overstretched pistons. Plus dragsters use special fuel and the gearbox cannot handle such power for 10-20 years. Notice how difficult those vehicles have to put their power on the ground. Have your forgotten Corvette has 7L V8 engine and Dodge Viper has 8.4L V10 engine which is bigger than Veyron quad-turbo W16. Remember Veyron is an extreme GT, not a dragster.

The engine that has more cylinder and bigger cubic capacity can hold more power at a long period of time without breaking down since it produces less heat than forcing a smaller engine with a big turbo with high psi that makes the engine less efficient. I'll say W16 with 4 stock turbos is a good idea to produce 1001 hp because the engine itself needs less force induction to produce that kind of power unlike smaller engines needs more force induction to produce that kind of power.
People stop comparing Modified cars to Stock cars, Even Stock Super cars. Its stupid. If you take a stock super car and modify it you'll have a really fast super car.

The 'Vette you're mentioning has much less weight (close to 300 kg less) and thus, gives a much higher power-to-weight ratio which could be the reason behind its top speed. I totally agree with you that the W16 engines are a bit of a waste (not to mention its weight), but the Veyron shows a different side to the supercar world, not muscle cars.
The veyron has a W 16 because it's more reliable than a twin turbo v8, this thing could last over 20 years withouth ever breaking down, most modified cars can't.

The great thing about this car is (and the thing that those fucking morons who say "my tuned supra can smoke it" type of comments) that the engine in this car is extremely durable and reliable, even tho none of these cars will ever have more than 10-15k kilometers on the clock, i bet it could without any problems reach 500k kilometers without going crazy with it all the time. Since all mechanical parts are made from titanium, theres virtually no wear...and electronics is typical VW...flawless.
@derbigpr500 Not gonna lie ive seen some pretty beast supras and GTR's. Look up the Alpha 12 GTR R35 there calling it the Veyron killer and for good reason. Veyron tops out at around 250 MPH GTR's and Supras may top out at around 240MPH when tuned...but they do this with a 6 cyl 2.6 liter engine. Dont get me started on the price of the veyron practically 2 million you can own a supra or GTR for under 80k. Sorry but in my book thats a better car. Doing more with less.
None of those listed cars (GTR and Supra) are factory made, they are all aftermarket. Keys point most posters that relied on their favourite heavily modded cars: class, comfort, luxury, performance and reliability in a single package. So-called Veyron killers cannot achieve them without compromising another. One could make a Kia faster than some supercars but they will never reach the high class level. In Bugatti world, nothing is expensive therefore price is irrelevant.

@TheUnPlayable According to the official rating it is 1001 PS. Does the engine make more than that? Yes, but not 1100 PS, thats bullshit, not 'in fact'. According to Bugatti development boss WOLFGANG SCHREIBER the engines actual outputs are between 1020 and 1040 PS (in an interview by car and driver), which i mentioned already in a comment i posted after replying to yours, 19 hours ago. That makes the mean of 1100 PS rather impossible.

The great thing about this car is (and the thing that those fucking morons who say "my tuned supra can smoke it" type of comments) that the engine in this car is extremely durable and reliable, even tho none of these cars will ever have more than 10-15k kilometers on the clock, i bet it could without any problems reach 500k kilometers without going crazy with it all the time. Since all mechanical parts are made from titanium, theres virtually no wear...and electronics is typical VW...flawless.

@derbigpr500 Not gonna lie ive seen some pretty beast supras and GTR's. Look up the Alpha 12 GTR R35 there calling it the Veyron killer and for good reason. Veyron tops out at around 250 MPH GTR's and Supras may top out at around 240MPH when tuned...but they do this with a 6 cyl 2.6 liter engine. Dont get me started on the price of the veyron practically 2 million you can own a supra or GTR for under 80k. Sorry but in my book thats a better car. Doing more with less.

None of those listed cars (GTR and Supra) are factory made, they are all aftermarket. Keys point most posters that relied on their favourite heavily modded cars: class, comfort, luxury, performance and reliability in a single package. So-called Veyron killers cannot achieve them without compromising another. One could make a Kia faster than some supercars but they will never reach the high class level. In Bugatti world, nothing is expensive therefore price is irrelevant.

There is a myth on BV. Most of videos show this car wins drag races all,simply because of power to the top gear. Most of us were born not that luck to have a chance to drive this $million car. This documentary was first aired last year. It is the best presentation of the Bugatti Veyron ever produced. For those who mistakenly thought the Veyron was merely all about horsepower, you no doubt learned that the Veyron is really more about Engineering & Research, instead. The reason I'll be a Veyron owner, is not so much the speed, but the technological achievement that went into producing the vehicle. This car is like none other on earth and set a technology standard for the ages.

@TheUnPlayable Its 1001 metric HP (PS) according to Bugatti. That is 987 BHP or 736 kW of power. The Super Sport is 1200 PS or 1184 BHP.

@TheUnPlayable According to the official rating it is 1001 PS. Does the engine make more than that? Yes, but not 1100 PS, thats bullshit, not 'in fact'. According to Bugatti development boss WOLFGANG SCHREIBER the engines actual outputs are between 1020 and 1040 PS (in an interview by car and driver), which i mentioned already in a comment i posted after replying to yours, 19 hours ago. That makes the mean of 1100 PS rather impossible.
