Good video. Using education as a means to a job or production only has made education much less expansive in its vision and impact and more concentrated machinery and perhaps diluted for a culture that prizes money and status over knowledge and wisdom.
hey prof, good points. though I'm still more on the actual execution of ideas than the speculation (perhaps its my own cultural bg and the lack of integrity in our education), I do see the value of having the space and community (in university) that supports study/learning. much like how churches are erected for people to come together, for support, etc. Also after I quit, real actual conversations/experience + inquiry became "life university". I've been reconsidering completing it though..
so if increasing amounts of people are getting degrees and the degree is becoming an irrelevant point when it comes to applications because all sorts of characters can attain them do you think that for certain jobs that they'll become obsolete because its not a matter of whether you have a degree or not its how good you can do that job?
It's already kinda like that. Even though degrees are required for certain jobs, they're already filled or have even more extreme requirements on the side. So many kids finish college and end up working at the cellphone booth in the mall.
I think college has become like highschool. It's on its way to becoming mandatory, common, and apart of more years of schooling that waste your life and are needed just to be a respectable citizen.
