As I watched this video I couldn't stop thinking of all the good things I have to say about this Drumer .all I can really say is fughhhhhhh. He's a fuckin beast . Major props to such sick talent . sick .
Swiveling is not a technuique and is bad for the knee sockets, your knees arn't ment to move like that. George kollias has already said he gets very sore knees from the way he plays. Romain goulon uses a very simple and effective method for his playing, and it's ecconomy of motion. His foot technuique is more about using all of your Joints together, hips knees and ankles so that after practice and time the faster you play the stress is spread out and not on just one joint or muscle group..
I can identify & register everything he's doing and play each individual figure (at about half speed, haha)...but putting it all together and not fucking up AT ALL...and having energy to play it again is fucking bonkers.
The reason he uses doubles when he blast beats is its simple energy saving and muscle efficiency. People! U need to be awere that Romain is currently THE BEST deathmetal drummer out there! I know that there are bit faster drummers,or who play in great bands and make great music but if u take just technicall aspect Romain has NO competition.This guy has ability to play EVERYTHING! The most crazy,fast, polyrhytmic,technicall patterns which 99% drummers on the planet simply wont handle - especially on stage. And whats more! He does it so clean that it doesnt need any adjustment. i dont agree. Lyle is just good and solid drummer, nothing above. He is slower and plays less complicted parts compared to Romain. Nick is even better than Lyle. He plays some sick stuff, but i dont respect him as much because of doubles which he play on pedal - single strokes are thousand times more difficult. Doubles compared to singles takes A LOT less time to learn. I can play 240+bpm doubles without any practice at all (i use to play regular singles). This technique is easy as shit and Its a lot less difficult to play all those difficult patterns, cuz it doesnt require any foot speed - just specified type of movement and pedal setup. Im not sayin that drummer who play killer stuff with doubles is crappy, but drummer who play same stuff with singles deserves more respect!

Playing doubles that fast and getting them that smooth is pretty impressive. I don't think they are better but i also don't think Romain owns them in any way, at all.

Less that 1% of the entire population of drummers will ever be this good. I am a weightlifter so I'll use a weightlifting example that is equal to this on drums. If I were to squat 700lbs and jump into the air after every rep with the weight still on my back and do this for about 10 minutes, that would be about equal to what this guy is doing on the drumkit. I mean to me he was God in the matter of technique - i couldnt find a thing which he wouldnt be able to play in death metal,but he didnt have his own marked style - he was like a machine which could play everything insanely clean and tight. Dude you guys have to stop comparing drummers... Derek, Romain and George are extreme metal drummers, but both has his own style. None of these drummer master TOTALLY EVERYTHING in drums. Derek is better at something and George at another, as for Romain. For me, they are all fucking god-like pro.

Yes i know Mike Heller as well, but what i mean is that he cannot master everything. He's awesome with his groove, but he clearly don't have the power and endurance of these drummer. Someone who practice 20 years of Pure death metal will be extremely good at it, someone who play jazz grooze 20 years will be overkill at it, someone who plays 10 years jazz groove and 10 years pure death will be very good at both, but never as good as the one specialised in each genre. For starters, it's "I, on the other hand", not "I in the other hand". Secondly, all these drummers---Kollias, Goulon, Roddy, Hahto, Sandoval, Cesca, etc---all have smoething about their style that makes it unique. That on top of the fact that it's solely a matter of opinion when it comes to who is better than who.
This guy is better than Derek. Romain has a perfect timing as you can hear but with derek ... i don't know i just can't hear him beeing one with his drum... when i listen Romain , i'm smooth and relax caus i know he knows what he is doing but with Derek... all my muscle are working caus thats the way i feel him playing, only relying on speed and strenght. Romain seems more confident and hit the time perfectly. Anyway, both Derek and Romain + George Kollias are the best imo :P
@asffsasffsa yeah I feel the same with Derek. Maybe he overly tries to do complicated independance stuff ? I'm talking about his improvisations solely, cause as a drummer for an extreme metal band he does the job perfectly. He's still got more feeling/timing/versatility than a lot of drummers in this style.
Romain is like a Weckl-to-be with fucking fast hands and feet.
Completely stunning. The only one thing I don't like is his snare sound, far too metallic and tinny. If he got a deeper, warmer wooden snare, there would be nothing stopping me from buying this album and trying to have sex with the cd.

Dude you guys have to stop comparing drummers... Derek, Romain and George are extreme metal drummers, but both has his own style. None of these drummer master TOTALLY EVERYTHING in drums. Derek is better at something and George at another, as for Romain. For me, they are all fucking god-like pro.

@XDarkStrikerX except for mike heller from malignancy and lille gruber from defeated sanity. normally i agree with what you said, but those guys have such fucking killer jazz chops that they work into their death metal playing on top of the hypertech style the other godtier guys play. imo the two are incomparable in both death metal and jazz.

Yes i know Mike Heller as well, but what i mean is that he cannot master everything. He's awesome with his groove, but he clearly don't have the power and endurance of these drummer. Someone who practice 20 years of Pure death metal will be extremely good at it, someone who play jazz grooze 20 years will be overkill at it, someone who plays 10 years jazz groove and 10 years pure death will be very good at both, but never as good as the one specialised in each genre. Best Drummer=Opinion

For starters, it's "I, on the other hand", not "I in the other hand". Secondly, all these drummers---Kollias, Goulon, Roddy, Hahto, Sandoval, Cesca, etc---all have smoething about their style that makes it unique. That on top of the fact that it's solely a matter of opinion when it comes to who is better than who.

This is the first I'm ever hearing of Romain Goulon, and I'm a fan of Derek.
ROMAIN SMASHES DEREK TO BITS.
He's like a machine, perfect timing, consistent with his strokes, and really is playing muscially as well as fast.

All of thoose are explicit drummers, everyone of them has 1 speciallity,
I would't say any1 is better then another,
All of thoose simply are metalgods of drumming!
So please don't say Romain smashes Derek cause that's not true,

This guy is better than Derek. Romain has a perfect timing as you can hear but with derek ... i don't know i just can't hear him beeing one with his drum... when i listen Romain , i'm smooth and relax caus i know he knows what he is doing but with Derek... all my muscle are working caus thats the way i feel him playing, only relying on speed and strenght. Romain seems more confident and hit the time perfectly. Anyway, both Derek and Romain + George Kollias are the best imo :P

@asffsasffsa yeah I feel the same with Derek. Maybe he overly tries to do complicated independance stuff ? I'm talking about his improvisations solely, cause as a drummer for an extreme metal band he does the job perfectly. He's still got more feeling/timing/versatility than a lot of drummers in this style.
Romain is like a Weckl-to-be with fucking fast hands and feet.

Completely stunning. The only one thing I don't like is his snare sound, far too metallic and tinny. If he got a deeper, warmer wooden snare, there would be nothing stopping me from buying this album and trying to have sex with the cd.
