Alot of u lot hav missed the point of this scene. the actual title of the this scene is called 'trading taps'. This isn't a contest but 2 styles or cultures coming together. The irish hav just made their way to america with the only proud thing they have with them (irish dancing) and see people dancing in the street, similar to how they do it.
At first, I was a bit at unease because of perceived stereotypes, but the problem wasn't the dancers, the routines or the theatrics. The problem was me. It is fun, challenging and full of imagination. There is no competition between cultures here. It is dancers .... dancing and doing it very very well.
I thought that this was the best part of the show. By the way, for you folks that are fighting. Ummm, they weren't really fighting. IT WAS A SHOW. And one of the best that Ive seen.
I thought that this was the best part of the show. By the way, for you folks that are fighting. Ummm, they weren't really fighting. IT WAS A SHOW. And one of the best that Ive seen.
This is somewhat offensive to be quite honest even though I have always loved this dance. I mean... come on we all come from different background with therefore completely different styles of dance. How is it fair to say that Irish dancing is better then American dancing? Theres so many variations of each that its just not fair to say ones better then the other...
who cares about their natinality?both parts of that show do a fabulous job.i kinda like the american style.its fresh and different to the typical riverdance moves
tiredofphailspelling, you are soo right, the worst a country can do is forget its origins, but ofcourse both the US and Ireland have evolved since that time, wich you can see nicely in this splendid video.
Hahahahahaha that was one of the cooliest things I've ever seen! But why does it say Riverdance in the description? That really wasn't Riverdance! Riverdance WAS the coolest thing I've ever seen. Ireland so won there but the Americans were awesome!!
if only all arguments were solved like this, think of the headlines. "american troops were involved in a vicious dance off today with rebel foces in baghdad"
Now Doomessenger4654, every question deserves an anwer...
Eireboy17: The reason black people are dancing is because 1) it's the 1930's and two they're tap dancing/jazz. Black people originated those dance styles so we give credit to where credit's due. The Irish are wearing the 1930s clothes because the stage is set in 1930s so to keep all the dancers in unison, the costumers put the Irish in 1930s clothes. Hopefully that helps.

for americaansz there should eb anglo saxons not black people. i dont think fo black people when i think of usa and why are irish people wearing clothes of the 1930's.
Im Irish myself but im not going to rip the piss out of America. Whats the point? I think its fucking deadly the fact that two COMPLETELY different cultures and dance styles can come together and have a laugh. There is some similarities between the two. You need abit of both haha. For those utter GOBSHITES getting all serious about defending Ireland, pull your head out of your arse, at least Americans are attempting to keep our culture alive.
I think I prefer classic riverdance, but the U.S. had a really good skit- pretty fancy footwork going on, especially the one who did it on his tippy toes, and they had really good humor. I liked the Irish costumes better though :)
It was better live, when I saw it first, when the segment was new, and I had the privilege of watching it at an outdoor venue where the excitement of the showdown swept through the crowd like fire through dry grass till we were laughing and hooting and SCREAMING with glee, but this is still pretty damn great. That lead dancer's better'n Flatley ever was.
right off then of course it was the irish who won its our sport to be certain, bloody americans and their "flipping", for the love of saints have respect for river dancing its not to be taken lightly and made a mockery of boy-o
What the heck is everyone fighting over?!?! Children don't even act this way. The whole POINT of this dance was to compare and contrast the two different styles of dances, not to say that one was better than another -- or that one country is better than another. Grow up the lot of you, because you're all acting shamefully. Not all Americans are fat, nor are all Irish drunkards. If you can't realize this, then I would suggest getting off the internet.
