A very interesting interview. Does anyone remember the song they did with The Damned? I think it was called "What do you give the man who's gotten everything?" If I remember right it was on the B side of Big A Little A.. Is it up on youtube? I cannot find it. Penny is a nice guy with no bull, but I do wish that he would find out who he is and what he is.
marvelous interview and some memorable quotes and ideas...he seems like the kind of guy you would enjoy a pint with....i detect no pretense - unusual....thanks for posting this...it's inspirational
Unreal!! A proper insight to the band and movement that shaped my teens. I remember going to Small Wonder regularly and heard those demos, with Pete. It felt like forever waiting for 'Feeding' to get released. I still have my Small Wonder copy in my collection, along with pretty much everything that Crass put out. Thank you for posting these
i loved all 8 vids, making me think alot more about punk and the DIY scene and how we need more people to step up in the punk world and say fuck of to all this commercial shite, not saying its not around, but there sould be more.
What comes to mind is that its a little sad that Penny is rather blaa about his time with Crass, I mean thats fine hoverer for me Crass had a huge influence on my life...& the political social mirror that Crass held.. Its all good that that time was no different for him than any other time.. but they really shifted many peoples lives into a new paradigm... (and still are) and that's something special that I thank him for....
Thanks for posting, very interesting and insightful stuff, I was too young to be there at the tbeginning so i only got into it in the early 80's. So it is nice to hear from it the horses mouth.
No. In an earlier part of the interview he asks what his ideal audience was at the time of Crass and he said a 13ys old working class kid from Glasgow. Then he said that that's still his ideal audience, so he's called him Peter Pan coz he hasn't got any older.
thanks for uploading this interview, crass were hugely influential on myself and many of my friends, it's fascinating to hear Penny speaking directly, a very interesting, aware and thoughtful person
Thanks for making this available. Crass inspired me when I first heard them in 1980, and I continue to be inspired to this day. Serious stuff that improves the quality of existence, and - although I should maybe know better at this point - gives hope...
I absolutely loved 10 Notes On A Summerday, but never really explored Penny's jazz infatuation further. This short clip was pretty good, so I finally might...
who else would have put out the records that people moaned that penny 'didn't get the right sound' on. there's no pleasing some folks. thanks a lot for these uploads, penny is a great guy and an inspiration.
I was once a teen punk in late eighties Poland and Crass along with Subhumans were my favorite band. In fact they urged me to learn English to understand the message. Today after almost 20 years all of the sudden I recalled them.
So I youtubed Crass and what I got? This brilliant story! Thanx a lot! Now back to Crass on You Tube.
Very inspirational Penny. I hated the music of the 80s but loved the 80s. Against all odds, the miners, the animal rights movement, etc hit the streets in big numbers in Britain. I was glad to be a part of it. What of the future? It feels like we have back-pedalled and the feeling of franchisement has been buried in the 21st century. I now live in the US and the optimism has exploded here but I think we know what's in store. The media feel-good factor rules.
Thanks for taking the time to put this up. I just finished watching all 8 parts and found it a wonderful insight into such a phenomenal band. Penny is truly articulate and an inspiration.
I was watching the new BBC drama "Merlin" The other night and the character played by Richard Wilson does have a striking resemblance to Penny Rimbaud
Great Interview thanks for posting it great guy liked the poem and sax at the end too.

Is his son really named Peter Pan?
AmericanDiaz 2 years ago
No. In an earlier part of the interview he asks what his ideal audience was at the time of Crass and he said a 13ys old working class kid from Glasgow. Then he said that that's still his ideal audience, so he's called him Peter Pan coz he hasn't got any older.

I would name my son Peter Pan and then he would grow up and beat the stuffing out of me, like in that Johnny Cash song, "A boy named Sue"!
AmericanDiaz 2 years ago
@AmericanDiaz
No. Peter Pan was a symbol of his model audience that he talks about it one of the previous videos.
