I SAW VAN HALEN'S 1978 WORLD TOUR. and i remember leaving the show and i remember a lot of people saying jimi hendrix who? i share this with people thet saw that 1978 world tour and they said that they said the same thing.
@stratdem That is because from 1978-1981 Eddie Van Halen was untouchable. Nobody before him or during that time (other than maybe Randy Rhoads) could even come close to him. Hendrix was a good rock player for his day, but Eddie, especially in his prime, could totally outclass him. Although, the studio cut of Voodoo Child has to be among the greatest guitar songs ever. It is mind blowing to me. It's too bad that Hendrix could never do it justice live.
DUDE THIS GUYS GOOD!!!!!! He can play. HOLY F_NS LOL... BUT!!! YA KNOW ,at this stage,or any,.. you HAVE TO WONDER, what is better, his PLAYING or his WRITING? That my friends, is the greatest mystery of the ages. Stay thirsty.
wasn't that great, eruption dragged on like some painful ego trip of the little hispanic eddie from east LA who played his way out of the barrio , just get on with the damn song dickhead
@MOSKII58 I think other guitarist then were sorta doing the same thing......so Ed says fuck yall try and copy this one, bitch! i believe i hearb him say that in interview??
Undoubtedly the best Eruption I've ever heard, & I've heard 'em from every tour. Amazing indeed. Would be neat to know which guitar he was playing on this version.
@jhop5150 I agree that his black/white strat is likely, but don't know enough about his Shark to say for sure. When I saw him play Pittsburgh in 9-1978, he played most of the show, including Eruption, on his blonde Les Paul, & believe it or not, he got some nasty growls out of it, which isn't too hard if you simply crank the tuning keys. I don't know if he actually did that, but he did hand it off to his tech Rudy at the end, & played YRGM with the b/w Frank.
I'm surprised he didn't snap strings during his stage shows, especially playing this aggressively and bending the shit out of those thin strings already detuned.
@theShowStopper321 The reason he didn't break them is probably because he said he would put new strings on every night. Also, he would boil the strings before put them on because he said that made them more durable.
@zackvanhalen No Van Halen is MORE freaky than all that. He specifically lined up the strings when putting them on the guitar, and he talks about having to twist the ball of the string while bending to stop it breaking and keep it in tune. This was with his earlier guitars... It's quite astounding really- his involvement with guitar developments got a little lost in the marketing. Apart from all the myths- this Edward VH guy is also a very intelligent insightful person.
@theShowStopper321 detuning is actually one of the reasons why he didnt' snap them. it's easier to get those bends out of the guitar when the strings are tuned so low.
Amazing that they were this good so early on in their career. It kind of changed direction a little up until 1984 and got more refined but still rocked the soxx of the rest of the world.
Then they put on the safety belts for 20+ years : (
Jimi on steroids....

@stratdem One of the all time greats! Love his playing. Those who are saying Jimi who are misguided however. I think even Eddy would tell you that.

EVH is a beast, no doubt about it. Not a huge fan of DLR's image, but (aside from the hoot's and howls) his voice fit the early VH very well.

i'll never understand why eddie re-painted the black & white to red, it looked kick ass tight as it stood, why mess w/ perfection?

Incredible recordings! Where did you get these? Phenominal. The photos are awesome also... Are you a collector or are you related? Serious question.

@NiwRadNosiRRaL I'm not related to anyone in VH. I'm just a fan. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoy my posts.

Is it wrong that im hard ?
bosoxyaz8 1 year ago 3
@bosoxyaz8 No, that is a perfectly normal reaction to VH. Just be careful. If it lasts longer than 4 hours, go to the ER.
zackvanhalen 1 year ago 8
@zackvanhalen Oh ok i will consider a trip to the ER...thanx 4 the advice bro...ha ha
