thing about thayil, kind of a minimalist soloer, lost of songs have solos just barely within audible focus, so most of his really good solos are hard to hear on album
@Crispyconcerto I know what you mean about that, Its a bit of a shame that some of his solo's are either dimmed down or just drowned out but lets look forward to a killer album this year=]
The solo in superunknown made my head do a 360 back in 94, and it still does today. It's like a mountain side of lava coming for you and it's out of control.
Thayil's solos have an amazing amount of QUALITY to them, a real team player and an excellent guitar-slinger. My favorite is his solo break down in, "Face Pollution" which features a horn backing.
Def agree with 'Like Suicide' as #1...I am not picky about Thayil solos, because I like them all, but "Birth Ritual' has to be on here, as well as 'Little Joe'...great post though
Hes such an overlooked and underrated guitarist, not to mention Soundgarden is very overlooked now a days which is garbage because they are such a great band.
pretty good list. But come on, you need beyond the wheel on there. At least put it as a honourable mention. I thought your list was pretty good, but no way are they the best solos (though still very good). You didn't really seem to go beyond superunknown apart from the exception of the Bleed Together.
wenever i say kim is my fav guitar player my friends roll their eyes, they think hes some crappy grunge rocker but wen you actully listen to him hes amazing
His guitar solo in Pretty Noose when they performed live on SNL is one of my favorites!!! So much more intense than the studio version, IMO...

Love the solo from like suicide, he does some sick bends in it.

And here I thought I was alone in my assumption that Kim's solo on Like Suicide has to be among the best rock solos of all time.
I have company and it is bliss not misery.

Friggin fantastic. Couldn't agree more cvillian. I would like to submit the last 3 minutes of "Slaves & Bulldozers" as a potential #6.
thecostcutter 1 year ago
@thecostcutter Yeah. That mid 4-6 minutes of "Slaves & Bulldozers" from the "Moonlight On Vermont" dvd/ show is one of the best, also.

When I started this video, I was thinking, "My God, if 'Like Suicide' isn't number one, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about." :D
Excellent choices. "Tighter & Tighter" is one my faves, but it'd be hard to squeeze it in your list (pardon the pun).
