@ilovety65 Apply for a reassessment if your properties assessed value exceeds the fair market value. As for being gouged your property taxes can't be increased more than 2% in any given year. California has some of the lowest property tax rates in the nation.

@TheTime4solutions Where can I find this law of humanity? Actually larceny is a crime which is the "unlawful" taking and carrying away the property of another with the intent to permanently deprive. So the very fact that the property tax is lawful (see the California Constitution Article 13 section 1; see also Cal Rev & Taxation Code Section 50 et. seq) means that they are not stealing from you.
