  • The singer is good. But the things he does is kinda awkward.

  • yeah, he's not bad

  • C'mon Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., give us back SR Vaughn's version at El Mocambo. You allow KW Sheppard and John Mayer's versions to stand but take away the best cover of Voodoo Chile (slight return) in existence. Nothing any other guitarist does takes away from the legacy of the greatest, Jimi, but enhances it.

  • pleaaase lay off that ride, drummer. maybe it's just my speakers but man i can't even give kenny's playing a good listen, - that cymbal is so flippin irritating!

  • The drummer is pissing me off haha

  • Too bad the singer is so terrible, because Kenny tears it up.

  • @Unf1234 are you kidding me?

  • @TheOwnator No I'm not kidding, he can't even remember the correct words.

  • Guy almost sounds like jimi hendrix love it

  • Probably the best blues guitarist alive

  • @jlillymoon

do you not know who John Mayer is?

  • @jlillymoon last i checked buddy guy is still alive and well.

  • @jlillymoon I hardly doubt pretending to be SRV(who wasn't all that inspiring either) makes you the greatest blue guitarist alive. Now Derek Trucks, who took a lot of inspiration from Allman and Elmore James but doesn't sound like them makes you an amazing blues guitarist.

  • True

  • He's a bad man. That's true.

I would like to see him make some of those key lick's more his own.

  • Man hes like an alive stevie ray !!!

  • (っ◕‿◕)っ Kenny Wayne Sheppard

  • (っ◕‿◕)っ Kenny Wayne Sheppard

  • made my ear pussies cum

  • Best voodoo child version in my opinion!

  • You got to love it , thanks for sharing.

  • Pinche engreído... SRV rules!!!

  • Good voice!!

  • the time is a bit slow on the verse

  • How to get that tone of guitar what efects is he using?

  • his guitar tone sounds like dick

  • @RCLightweightBuddy is that a good thing or a bad thing?

  • OMG Johnny Hallyday Oo

  • Its awesome but not hendrix

  • copied SRV version as best he could

  • wow, kenny has got it goin' on, man!

  • Just another talented force of my Guitar heros. Tjam*

  • Notice: 10 years before this video he looked like a long haired kid who just finished his basic school. Now he's the hottest guy I know! (And I'm not even gay. Kenny should appreciate this.)

  • @TheLordOfCoal

    Shutup you fucking faggot.

  • @Carthsgtr Umm, I don't understand why you write this shit to me. I didn't insult anybody.

  • @TheLordOfCoal

No you just threw in your hetero card though.

  • @Carthsgtr asshole if there ever was one

  • nice guitar

  • @andredidiergijon what a guitar is this

  • @texasblues808 I'll answer it, It's a Hendrix-Monterey Strat. Also used sometimes by John Mayer if I am correct.

  • @Koen17878 Yeah, it is...

I saw couldn't help but seeing the rose and the heart, Mayer uses the same in few of his songs in "Where the light is"...

  • Can't say it's the best version, but some awesome guitar work!!!

    TD

  • This is the best version of of Voodoo child. I have ever heard including Jimi

  • @chrissams65 Find Stevie Ray Vaughan Live in El Mocambo in Texas, and come back watch this again :P

  • Noah is one of my faverite singers! And he has a great voice!

  • Kenny Wayne is a guitar god! Nuff said.

  • ya dave sing it up is this dave grhol?

  • ................

  • i love the moment since: "okey Kenny burn it" ;)

  • This is a one bad mo fo

  • Beautiful tone mane!

  • he's good but i don't feel soul. I know everyones gonna hate me for the comment but he's a good guitarist but not special.

  • John Mayer is a fuck!

  • If you don't think that this is absolutely fabulous,, you don't play guitar. I don't give a rat's fanny about it being too little or too much like Jimi and SRV. It's still flat out fabulous. A great tribute to his muses. A true one man show. And I guess Eric Johnson and the Satch man kinda liked it too. Seeming as how they invited him out to be the number 3 man in their one shot guitar trio.

  • @KillerPlaythroughs Jimi played a right handed strat restrung upside down. It looks like Kenny Wayne is playing a 1997 Fender Custom Shop Monterey Stratocaster, fashioned after Jimi's- but with a reverse headstock. Killer guitar. Killer guitar player.

  • The best way to play anything by Jimmi is with a lefty strat

  • cool man, cool!

  • Singer sucks but the guitarist is amazing

  • .....a nice job covering this tune and the vocalist is reminescent of Paul Rogers, nothing wrong with either....a good cover is a good cover regardless of a persons age, demographics, or race...as long as they maintain tonal quality and this kid certainly qualifies.

  • that tone is swag

  • HOLY SHIT ! 1 BAD DUDE !

  • someone give me that stratocaster.

  • so i just watched stevies live version and the lick KWS pulls on 1:24 in this video is exactly the same as his SRVs, LOVE it just the same! saw kenny live and he ripped the guitar in half in every way...... awesome

  • Not saying this is bad or anything but the tone sounds flat. Listen to Mayer. Then listen to this. Not saying either one is the second coming or anything but John mayer's tone is killing this!

  • If anyone out there listened to what Kenny's really playing, you wouldn't be talking about Jimi being proud, or originality or anything. There is very little that Kenny does on this version of his own. Almost the whole performance is a copy of SRV! With a few exceptions.

  • @ecfanmusic Couldn't agree more mate! As great as I think this is, it is very similar to SRV's version. Nobody did it like Jimi though!

  • Simply Awesome, Jimi would be proud...

  • No right handed person should play this music ever!

  • the reverse head stock is killer and unique

  • Godlike.

  • ok, if anyone else says "they're stupid/cover artists/bad guitarists/(whatever)." about KWS, SRV, John Mayer, or anyone who is BIGGER THAN THEM IN THE MUSIC WORLD, they can GTFO. all those men and women out there who are GRAMMY WINNERS did the same thing all the other kids did in their bedrooms: they COVERED music, they PRACTICED, they were SMART about their lives. now they're making millions.

don't say anything bad about people who are better than you... it's just plain idiotic.

  • Why does this feel watered down to me? I just came from the Hendrix and SRV versions and this one just can't compare...

  • you can play the blues bot your not stevie

  • kill all dislikers!

  • Was that Chris Layton on the drums?

  • @Nirvalica yes

  • @Nirvalica I thought it was "Whipper" Layton too! Is it?

  • @renoduffer It sure looks like it, and it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibilities.

  • @renoduffer yes it is!

  • That tone is just AMAZING!

  • this cat feels what he is playing great job

  • good hendrix cover :-)

  • damn, my guitarist needs 1/1000002301230 th of KWS's tallent!

  • :S

  • A lot of similarities to the SRV version, most notably at the beginning.

  • i love that he threw in "Power to Love" in the solo.....great performance

  • Excellent! Anyone with thumbs down, does not know what the hell great guitar playing is....

  • Jimi is smilin' down with pride on this young lad....Rock on Brother!

  • This is excellent ! ;)

  • Is it strange to be a guy and still wanna make love to Kenny?

  • Great rendition or this classic. This is a tribute. I pleased when done in their own style and a straight out copy. The spirit lives on!

  • ''five dislikes, what the fuck!!!!,jimi would love this jam...

  • This is were the rock misic starts.

  • Agree ----- myownruin187

  • KWS rocked the shit out of that voodoo, haven't seen anything that great sense SRV..

  • fantastic

  • This tone is fucking amazing.

  • Loved this video!!! I have seen Los Lonely Boys, Orianthi, John Mayer, Satriani and Grace Potter, SRV and of course Hendrix as well as others. Really like his tone and take on this. If I was to nitpick, it seems to me the best way to do this song is to sing and play it. Otherwise, awesome!!!

  • I have seen him play 3 times. He always gets at least 10 standing ovations. And he earned them. He is awesome!

  • that looks like the guitar that Jimi burned a monterey pop, corect me if im wrong?

  • @MemphisMurk100 Fender made absurdly price replicas of that guitar a while back, it could be one of those or a custom made replica from either Fender's custom shop made for KWS or made by some other manufacturer. The original was a stock guitar Jimi painted using nail polish.

  • @MemphisMurk100

that´s right... it´s the replica of the strat that jimmi burned in monterrey...

  • "Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Kenny Wayne Shepherd and that's how it should be done"

  • This guitarist is f@cking awesome!!

    Cudos for this guy!

  • bass player looks a bit bored..well he can go play in a pop punk band anytime he wants lol

  • milked to death at the end, no need for the ending just end the song for fuck sake

  • Cool Strat!

  • A solo shows a snapshot of the players feel, too long and its an arrogant rubbing of it in your face. He should cut that solo break down by 2/3rds.... Quality is in small packets, tat in big ones....

  • Kenny has great tone.

  • C H I L E DAMN IT

  • @paddie3535 Actually no, this is Voodoo Child (Slight Return). Voodoo Chile is a separate song on which this was based.

  • @infinitesporkage You are right, must have been that last fat boy. Thanks for being civil about it.

  • @paddie3535 Not at all, I made the same mistake too and I'm sure many do!

  • Yeah, it's derivative, but even so, KWS can seriously kick some ass. And I've always dug that singer's voice.

  • Oh leave the kid alone he is pretty good at what he does! From Louisiana lol!

    \

  • They need drugs

  • The singer sounds like that Nickelback douche.

  • What a imitation of the great SRV and Hendrix. I play all Hendrix's songs, and he is totally copying SRV licks from Little Wing what not.

  • @Acneweirdguy this isn't "little wing"

  • @turnbacktime I know, It contains material from that song.

  • @Acneweirdguy at which part exactly?

  • @turnbacktime There are 5 or 6 instances, but for example the riff around 1:45 to 1:55. He copies a lot of SRV riffs.

  • the best part is the intro, then it just deteriorates from there. He just takes about 5 Hendrix licks and stretches them into a ten minute head banging completely repetitive guitar solo..sorry, no originality here. It figures..he can't even read music...and he admits it too!

  • I'm old skool...(I know how to spell school..chill) and thought the kid did an outstanding job..keep "letting loose"

  • LMAO ... AN SRV WANNA BE!!

    = FAIL!!

  • Great playing, great sound, great voice, really blues, like it.

  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd is miles beyond John Mayer.......but what is missing here is any new ideas. Great act, not much of an artist.

  • @mojosaur put well my friend!

  • STFU!!! and listen to the music. I bet most of ya'll wish u could play like that.

  • to heck with all of the haters, that was an awesome performance. The last 3 or 4 minutes were where he really started to shine and add his own touch and feel.

  • I was told by a fellow guitar player that when you copy another player flattery is copying the song as was played originally, GREAT JOB KENNY!!!

  • Love this song kenny nailed it and the singer nailed it great.

  • Who gives a flying squat who the original artist was, or who's copying who.... If another artist does a version of the original it should be looked at as a tribute, not a wanna be imitation! Any original artist, alive or dead, should take it as an honor that someone else want's do perform their work...end of story. Furthermore... Kenny takes nothing away from Jimmy Hendrix by reproducing the song. We get to see the technical prowess of THIS artist as he plays something he loves.

  • wtf is up with all the negativity. KWS is a hell of a guitar player. if its bothering some of you that much go be "original" yourselves.

  • @DennisCaravello KWS is a great guitar player. I will say though, as one of the most ambitious, hard working guitarists you will ever meet, it is a little disappointing to see guys like kws and john mayer representing modern blues guitar playing as more of a glimpse into the past than a gaze into the future..and I am being original myself, just sucks that blues is so dead, that I know no matter how good I am, it's just a matter of luck whether I make it to the spotlight.

  • @hembre7210 I don't know where you live but the Blues are very alive and well! And as far as "making it to the spotlight" It takes talent, like an 18yr old picker that plays as well as his OWN Guitar Heroes. And Yes I know he is not still 18.

  • @roadkil2 Alive and well?? far from it...compare the number of people born in the past 30 years who own a blues record to the number of people born before 1980 and you will see a huge difference. Modern society has chosen to accept the evolution of musical genres without grabbing hold of the roots from where it came. Ask people to name 5 blues musicians that are younger than 35 and they may be able to say 1 or 2, ask them to name 5 older than 35 and I guarantee you they can do it.

  • @hembre7210 All I know is I am 54 have 2 grandson's 1 is 14 other is 25 I taught them the Blues Like my Grand father taught me. Between the 2 of them they sing play guitar, alto sax, tenor sax, piano, bass, drums, clarinet and have BOTH been listening to and playing Hendrix since they were old enough to pick up a guitar. I now take lessons from them. Like them most of the great blues artist's are from the south. It's a geographical Phenomenon,we are born with it in our blood. really.

  • @roadkil2 Ok fair point, but explain how blues greats like Peter Green, Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore etc have not got it "in their blood"? lolage

  • @hembre7210 robert johnson, son house, lightning hopkins, muddy waters and sonny boy. I was born in 1989...

  • All music video comments seem to degenerate into "he sucks", or "I know someone better". Musical taste and appreciation IS A VERY PERSONAL THING ! ! ! I really don't care who is "the greatest blues guitarist in history". I just comment when I LOVE someone's musicianship. Of the living blues rockers, I love KWS, Clapton, Doyle Bramhall II, Jimmy Bowskill, Tab Benoit, Buddy Miller, to name a very few. Please let people express their appreciation of a performance...taste is VERY personal : )

  • nice nod to stevie at 2:50

  • Im old and I like all of em even young ones like KWS who cares how old he is? 52 people cant play this song as great as him anyway...

  • Srv version, kenny is a excelent guitar player, and sSRV was god

  • John Mayers strat?

  • @Guitarist9992 jimi's monterey strat

  • tell who exactly were unsoulful enough to dislike this

  • The lad can definitely play. Massive shades of stevie ray. But guitar behind the head? Come on kenny, that was cliché by the time hendrix died!

  • Most you people have no clue and Im not suprised. Todays guitarists for the most part suck. Here`s some help. For starters...Speed=nothing...vibrato= nothing,...distortion= nothing. The where and when mean everything. A good guiitarist knows that FEELING, TONE, and each songs INDIVIDUALITY means EVERYTHING. And this means ANY genre of music a guitarist plays. You call SRV a clone, I call you a fool. He`s one of the most innovative players to ever live! Ken isnt even close to a SRV not even!

  • Trash talkin` Stevie Ray Vaghan??! Stevie didn`t COPY anyone! Of course he was influenced by the music he listened to and the people he played music with just like any other musician who`s worth anything. What Stevie Ray Vaughan played was Stevie Ray Vaughan. You can`t hardly play blues without covering another artists song. In fact, it`s almost a must do simply out of respect. Kenny Shepherd SUCKS! He doesnt sing and he has no style. I would gladly cut heads him anytime, anywhere! Try me

  • Srv

  • @KievanTiger Easy Tiger. Hes good , but he aint Stevie

  • I saw Kenny for the first time front row when he was doing the experience hendrix tour.. and if I had my eyes closed I coulda swore I was listening to SRV... this guyis amazing!!!!!!

  • Saw him when he was starting out at Tipitina's. He said when he was 7 yrs old he was standing by the stage when Steve Ray Vaughn was playing and SRV picked him up onto the stage.

  • And people call Stevie a cover artists......

  • a guy who's talented, but not tasteful.

  • love this version.........

  • i got this dudes pick. and then i met him at dinner one night got my guitar signed. hes so chill. love this dude

  • gotta admit this has been done before & done better....... guys good but anything original? gets old after a while..........unless it's stevie or the god (jimi) playing.....the singer kicks ass though! alright wait a minute he just kicked in the wah.......yeh thats it .....i'm alright now.........

  • This is wicked! Kenny Kicks ass! , And i really want the monterey guitar !!

  • Shepherd must have listened to Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Willie Dixon and more constantly when he was REALLY young.

  • For some reason I find it annoying when the "younger" generation let loose on stage. I guess it's because the playing is usually imitative, and not creative.

  • @utopianreality if he wants to imitate SRV and Hendrix, and if he has the skills to pull it off (which he does), then more power to him. There aren't many players out there able to pull this off. And I, for one, wouldn't call this 'imitative' instead of 'creative' -- just because his style mimics the greatest to ever play the guitar doesn't make him a copycat... unless you can show me the recording of someone performing the exact same notes somewhere else!

  • @utopianreality Listen to some Joe Bonamassa, you'll see that the guy is creative!!

  • @utopianreality

because guitar playing hasn't evolved much spiritually since the early 70's.

  • Honestly, I see nothing here but a mediocre Hendrix/SRV/Mayer impersonation.

  • @utopianreality

We should all be happy that there is a "younger" generation, even if the playing is imitative...

  • @utopianreality" imitation is the sincerest form of flatery", no? is SRV, satrini, vai not creative? they all covered hendrix. g3 always did a hendrix tribute at the end of their shows.

  • @utopianreality "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery"

  • @utopianreality Just because their young makes them annoying???? i bet you stereotype them instantly whether theya ctually imitate others or not you'll never know because theyre not worht you're precious time because theya re young..... I taught myself blues/rock soloing and im young but i guess im just an imitation to you

  • @utopianreality what the fuck are you talking about? Some people enjoy performing, I bet you'd love to watch some kid awkwardly stand around and play for hours wouldn't you?

  • @utopianreality There's only so many ways one can move a guitar while still playing it (i.e. over your head, behind your back, pointing in the air, laid on the ground). Don't be so proud the first blues-rock guitar performers found them first. That's like saying you pity drivers today that fish tail around corners or peel out, because they're just copy cats. So stop being jealous of their youth, because you're apparently still a child yourself.

  • now that's how you play a piece of wood with strings on it!

  • it's just a srv clone!!!

  • @MrMotte62 Except not as good!

  • i can tell stevie ray is his biggest inspiration, im workin on my own cover, im trying to stay as close as i can to jimi hendrix but im taking some parts from vaughans too, look for me in a few years i might just come to your town and play in your bar
