@irrelevent100 You couldn't even spell "prefer" or "perform" correctly. At least that's what I think you meant when I tried to decode your pointless, stupid, poorly written message. You have very little room to criticize the literacy of others when you can't even spell. It's quite ironic that you bring up being hypocritical in your juvenile attack on me, as you are being quite the hypocrite yourself. It's really quite amusing. Go troll somewhere else, or would you "preform" to continue?
@irrelevent100 When you learn how to spell and write the English language correctly, I will respond. You should also pose a relevant question, not rhetorical nonsense.
How can you listen to this and not know which side the propagandists are on? It's really rather sickening, that even in 1984 the media was totally in the tank for the Democratic party.
I love this; These "learned" newscasters eating the truth that their boy Mondale didn't win and by a huge margin. You could almost see the huge disappointment in their faces as the nation, of the people, and by the people disagreed wholeheartedly with these newscasters views of the world.
Was Barbara Walters ever a young woman? Even then she is a still a mature woman. Therefore I couldn't resist a quick check on wiki to take a peek at her age. Sure enough she is in her 80s.
If Barbara Walters had married a judge she used to date in Miami, she could have ended up my MOTHER-IN-LAW if I had married the judge's daughter. Fortunately we called the relationship off. She wanted to get back together, but I was already engaged to someone else! Yes, I believe in DIVINE INTERVENTION!
@greg2009 actually Dems only win the three west coast states and repubs usually win all the other western states. actually california went for the republicans in every election from 1952-1992
@greg2009 and look at the election maps from 1968 til 1988...almost the entire West went for the GOP. Even today almost all western states, with the exception of WA, OR, CA, and HI, are either strongly republican or republican-leaning states
It's hilarious to see Walters and Wicker in total denial!! They both ignore the landslide in favor of (1) Jesse Jackson's role in the election---uh, Baba, Jesse wasn't running and Reagan, say it with me, now, REAGAN, was winning a 49-state landslide; and (2) the importance of TV in a campaign---gee, thanks, for the insight, Tom. Check out George Will at 3:22.. .an anecdote about an aide to Mario Cuomo who talked to his Dad who is a Reagan Democrat. The aide was Tim Russert, the dad--Big Russ>

The electoral map changed after the Civil Rights Act of '64. Since then, the R's carry the south and the D's the east and NE.

Reagan was perhaps the best leader in history . . . he has been dead for five years and is already ranked as 5th of all time!!

JEEZ, Barbara! The first thing you mention is Geraldine Ferraro???? She was completely irrelevant to the race!

Aside from her hairstyle changing over the years, Barbara Walters looks EXACTLY the same now as she did in 1984.
Jennings? Deceased.
Brinkley? Deceased.
Walters? Hasn't aged a day. Satan's probably got her autograph somewhere.

Reagan's victories altered both Republicans and Democrats. Republicans control the South. Democrats contol the Northeast and Western states.

Yes, I'm a Democrat and if I was alive in 1984, I probably would have supported Reagan.

LOL @ George's comments at 3:13-3:16- it's now the Republicans who have lost the knack of addressing middle-class issues.

Regarding the congressional election, in NH, that Brinkley was talking about in the opening - Bob Smith did win in '84 and became a senator in 1990.

They didn't seem happy, but I don't think they were terrinbly shocked. Everyone knew Reagan was going to win easily.
I liked Brinkley though. I remember on election night 1996 he slipped and said on the air that Bill Clinton was "a goddamned bore." It was funny.

Even a Reagan supporter has to feel sorry for Mondale. He got crushed big time.
