How can four people not like this song? That outta the way; "My, my how loudly we plead our innocence long after we've made our contribution", may be the best line from any song ever. Bill is a genius of a lyricist. I hope he's not bitter that he's not more widely appreciated. Unfortunately for him and those like him, lyrics that provoke and incite the heart and mind will usually be passed over for the music industry's love affair with cotton candy and other less than healthy fare...........

@JoeDownie1 If he is bitter, you'd never know it-- the man is as upright, enthusiastic and congenial as can be. He's my neighbor, and rarely have I met a more gracious couple than Bill and Mariah.
I feel so many ages...when I hear this...I feel the '60's...see old friends in my mind...then the '70's and '80's...my intense love of song and beat...and the '90's...driving around listening and trying to get as much music in my veins as possible and at the turn 'o the century...making excuses to go out and drive around to hear it...this is the song that was missing...thank you Bill and Emmylou
"Why isn't this on the country stations instead of Taylor Swift?"
Congratulations my friend. You have graduated to a level known as 'art'. Many fail to appreciate it. Many fail to recognize it. Many just don't get it. You are one of the fortunate.
Why isn't this on the country stations instead of Taylor Swift? She sings forgettable, generic pop songs with country instruments in the background and passes it off as "real".
@hansen6102 - I recall going into the record store during the 90s to buy Gillian Welch's debut Revival album and I assumed it would be found in the Country Section, but no...it was in the Alternative Section. You know the country industry has dried up when they think it is innovative to have Gwyneth Paltrow sing country.
this is so great. the album is one of my all time favorites. every time I hear it, I wish he could work with Buddy Miller again. that would make my day.
From the album "Audible Sigh". It's pretty eclectic, though all in the "Americana" vein. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. Mallonee is such a fantastic songwriter.
Help. It appears that YouTube considers more of our authorized Bill Mallonee footage to be in violation of Terms of Use. We can't get any more clips approved for broadcast. Does this mean that someone from the Mallonee camp complained about it? I don't know. Anyone else having this problem? Perhaps if we all ask Bill really nice he will let us upload these clips we shot with his permission and made on his behalf.
Bill may have given permission for it, but he does not own the masters to these recordings. It's probably the record companies making the stink. Too bad. Nice video, BTW.
Top Quality from Bill Mallonee a very under rated musician whose songs deserve to me heard by a much bigger audience. Thanks for sharing that with us.
This is a "shining example" of what would be well recieved now as good music, in a landscape of hype, sex, and anger without poeticism, this is something better!
One of the most evocative songs he's written.

Hard to believe that this song isn't more popular. A well written song and a great performance.

Incredible! An unforgettably plaintive, heart-rending voice. Great, great recording of a beautiful song.

While Julie MIller sang on several songs on the album (Buddy Miller produced it), it's Emmylou Harris singing on "Resplendent."

i'm thinking we could have something better than Batman and Robin if Mallonee would team up with Sufjan. Two believing musical independents.
