  • Beautiful song

  • No way the sax player is Gato Barbieri. The sax player was an englishman: Ronnie Scott most likely.

  • this song came by accident this evening after i've read a beautiful message. much love to everyone who listens to this

  • bella cancion.....

  • ... never heard a better version!

  • truly wonderful song :)

  • Ms. Springfield recorded two versions of, "The Look of Love": the first with Burt Bacharach (for the soundtrack to the first version of, "Casino Royale") in London and then, not satisfied with that version she recorded another version. That second version is the version that was released in 1967 and made it to #22 in the US. I don't think Gato Barbieri would have played the sax solo, it was probably an English session musician, on this, the first version or on the second version.

  • great ,perfect , pleasant

  • I may stand corrected but as far as I'm aware he wrote it with Dusty in mind.

How wonderful to find, after all these years, it's acknowledged as a masterpiece.

  • Love her. She was unique - there was and is no one like her. Dusty's voice conveyed so much emotion - it could go from fragile and breathy to big and full. Her phrasing and pitch are perfect. She put her heart and soul into every note.

  • Check out Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66's cover of this song...

  • so soothing...

  • It takes the Hell of a singer to sing Hal David & Burt Bacharach. Dusty Springfield was that singer.

  • Great song, great singer!

  • Dusty put her performance to this great song - brings back so many good times.

  • I love that song..So sensual and emotional..

  • beautiful .......

    Al

  • I am a student of bossa nova and all things 60s movies and I know Gato Barbieri played sax on this song. Check out the credits.

  • It is not sure whether a saxophone player is Gato because detailed credit on the album containing this song is not specified...

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @60otaku3 Yo estoy mas que seguro Gato Barbieri al saxo

  • @60otaku3 who gives a flying duck, this version is Puuuurfect

  • @russianhiller This is the best example of bossa nova music played by non-Brazilian artist.

  • Gato Barbieri on sax

  • What is the basis that Gato Barbieri played a sax in this song?

    ...Otaku3

  • pure class! TOUT sonne juste!

  • j dilla's brother sampled this 1

  • Wow.

  • LOVE HER VOICE! :)

  • Perfection!

  • this song is so chill

  • ABSOLUTELY UNTOUCHABLE,TIMELESS,JUST MELTS ME INSIDE. LOVE IT,BRINGS ME BACK TO THAT TIME.

  • This is a great song

  • この曲もよく聴いてました。If you go awayとともにDustyの歌うものの中では好きな曲です。もともとハスキーボイスは好きなのですが、Julie Londonとはまた違うんですよね。ポスティングありがとうございました。この曲とIf you go awayはいつか歌ってみたいものです :)

  • lovely

  • complete meltdown...

This is one of my favorite songs!!!!!

    mmmmmmm....

  • what an amazing version of this gem of a song..dusty's voice was made for this piece..

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Dusty !

  • This song is great in words

  • from Jose' Sepulveda, the Hermeterec.....minimalist perfection......Dusty was the Queen of all she surveyed, she and Dionne Warwick ruled that era.

  • Ronnie Scott on sax I believe

  • By any chance it may be Ronnie Scott.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • @struanl Burt Bacharch IS The Pope of Soundtrak music to life . . .brings tears to my eyes, as memories of my childhood flush in, with his soundtrack behind it. . . .

  • @struanl

thank you, have been looking forever!!!!

  • No, its issac hayes song which he did in 1964 look it up this one song been used by everybody he got rich off this song

  • @kenrickeason The song was originally recorded by Dusty Springfield for the Casino Royale soundtrack in 1967. Isaac Hayes covered it in 1970 for his '...to be continued' album. Look it up.

  • Who is playing the saxophone solo? Stan Getz? Killer break.

  • I think the saxophone solo is not Stan Getz.

But I do not know who it is.

    ...Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @60otaku3 I agree with you, it has Getz qualities, but it is not him. Who is it?? Driving me crazy! LOL

  • Beautiful, sensual Bacharach song, superbly performed!

  • Comment removed

  • By the way. this is not a "Brazilian song" . It was composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and sung by Dusty Springfield, which appeared in the 1967 spoof James Bond film Casino Royale.

The fact is that after performing it in the Academy Awards telecast in March 1968, Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 recorded it and NAILED this version, turning the song into a huge sucess worlwide with the Brazilian beat in the arrangement and reaching #4 on the USpop charts. See Sergio version, it nails this one.

  • well it takes my breath away :)

  • Collezionismo Vintage

  • Beautiful song, I mean really beautiful. Somehow though that saxophone just drains the life out of me. I feel depressed after listening to this song.

  • The last bit, with the trumpets, was Herb Alpert'$ Tijuana brass, which was cut in after the movie, Casino Royale--he did most of the soundtrack...

  • I love Bachrach...I LOVE Dusty Springfield...but the person that is JUST as Brilliant as Bachrach is Hal David...His lyrics are always perfect..

  • Out of all the incredible styles of the sixties came this brazilian bossa nova vibe-

    unforgetably beautiful in it's simplicity.

  • This is a very very sexy song I listened it by the first time when I was a Child in the movie Casino Royal , in an epic romantic scene with Ursula Andress and Peter Sellers and can not imagine this song in another way, or style

  • @medina007angel So watch Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66 version. THAT is great.

  • This music style is (BRAZILIAN) "bossa Nova"... You can easily improve, just about any song/music, by playing it in this style. If you are a bad singer, just sing in this style; your singing will improve greatly; the sensuality and relaxing intonation is almost hypnotic. (Chris Montez, Julio Iglesias -and many more- used this basic idea).

  • the look of love it's on your face....

  • Fur me this song is about Lady Heroin

    Eeeeeeeeeeeh

  • @cappin right on

  • just fantastic

  • how many people even know, that this is brazilian music? great sultry stuff! btw-i'm a little dissapointed by the trumpets at the end, they sound a little like quacking ducks, with a metalic tinge.

  • The feeling that the saxophone player conveys is so breathtakingly beautiful. Dusty, Bacharach, David, and those musicians what a combination!

  • this is so beautiful..

  • UniversalxGuy,

If you dislike a Japanese honorific "-san", I will never add it to your name.

  • Best song to fall in love to ever.

  • how maNY SONGS DID BACHARACH WRITE?!? GREAT MUSICS, GRAET VOICES...MARCO FROM ITALY

  • @MegaMolenga Way too many to count and not a bad one in the lot...

  • Timeless; a beautiful love song just as apropos now as it was then.

  • Awesome :)

  • She was so cute!

  • Dont ever go... I love you so.

  • kimraine365,

Please do not advertise oneself of your channel on here.

    60otaku3

  • The late great Dame Dusty Springfield eonni's voice sounds SEXY!!! Sounds sensual to me, baby! Next time if my voice is fully recovered, I'm gonna sing my own version of this song! =)

  • Damn she sounds SEXY!!!

  • @60otaku3 this song is not only arranged by Burt Bacharach, but is also written by Hal David & Burt Bacharach.....I've loved his music since I was a child....Burt Bacharach is, in my opinion, the composer of "the soundtrack to life".....it is nice to share with other fans of his music.......

  • Thank you for the comment, VintageVelvetSoul-san!!

I have no objection on your opinion.

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @VintageVelvetSoul I've sampled a Burt Bacharach song. I'd love for you to hear it! Go to my channel and look for the song 'What If i' (Instrumental) =)

    Thank You!

  • there used to be a great clip of Ursula Andress and Peter Sellars from "Casino Royale" montage to this number with Dusty singing it.....always reminds me of my dad cuz he loved that stupid movie, but he loved Dusty more......she always makes me think of him.......

  • AMAZING!

  • This is not Dusty Springfield for what I believe

  • I do not know Dusty whom you believe.

It is your own subjective thinking.

    ...Otaku3

  • @Romanticdance then who is it?

    Well done Otaku3.

  • @Romanticdance : you could not be more wrong my friend :)

this is the one and only dusty

  • This is from a time when singers had to interpret a melody not just warble around

  • This song is from isaac hayes

  • Dusty where are you girl??:=) we all love you:=)

  • @txncgirl1

I hate to tell you this, but, she died on 2 March 1999, aged 59 :(

  • Parfaite alchimie des notes et de la voix! Tout sonne juste!La classe!Non...la grande classe!

  • @MrGravito on ne peut pas dire mieux...hors norme..!!!! Grande et jolie chanteuse.

  • The most perfectly sung song ever. Every word sound expression. Miss you so much Dusty. There will never be anyone quite like u. PERFECTION IN A SONG!

  • Thank you for sharing! Is this style Bossa Nova? I'm thinkin' it is.

  • You're welcome, STEPcoach-san!!

Yes, it seems that it is an arrangement by either a composer Burt Bacharach or a producer Phil Ramone.

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • It's unbelievable, that this song "The Look of Love" did not win the Academy Award for best song 1967.... It was nominated, but lost out to "Talk to the Animals" from Doctor Doolittle... I think this is one of the greatest love songs ever. Beautiful.

  • Thanks. The sound sounded more like a woodwind instrument, and not brassy or rough enough for a sax.

  • What is the instrument that comes in at 2:17? Doesnt sound like a sax. Clarinet? Oboe? Cheers.

  • That instrument is a tenor saxophone.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • Bossa nova was a huge part of my childhood in the 60's. The people across the alley from my house would have lavish parties often with Bossa nova live bands. As a kid on summer Saturday nights I would often drift off to sleep listening to songs like this.

  • very classy song

  • this is perfection. this is exactly what Bacharach and David intended.

  • I sing this when I look in the mirror

  • @helicopter618 Me too! And why not....we're gorgeous, right?

  • @Ellie8969 well if you`re gorgeous and I`m gorgeous maybe we should get together what do you think? that is if you`re a woman of course

  • @helicopter618 I'm all woman ;-) But all that gorgeousness in one room? Hmmm...is the world ready?

  • Très belle chanteuse, très belle voix, très belle interprétation.., quand la vie est belle...

  • J'adore sa voix...son sourire, et ...tout ce qu'il y a autour! Pure class!

  • Was her real name Mary O'Brien?

  • Yes, that's right!

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • @60otaku3 Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien

  • Next week I'll be 55 years old but the sixties were the best!!

  • Sexiest song ever recorded!

  • So sensual! And all of its components are just great music, great lyrics and a fantastic voice to sing them! Nothing works like simplicity: no nudity needed; no overt sexual references required; no vulgar video to validate the lack of talent you see today too often. Pure class!

  • Thank you, polopain-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)v

  • @polopain ..totally agree...<3

  • @polopain pure class!intemporel!

  • @polopain Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @polopain I do not think anyone could have said it better man. Too true.

  • @polopain abso friggin lutely!!

  • If I had been lucky enough to be married to Dusty, I be a lot older and lonelier now.

  • What an amazing voice. What an amazing Lady!

  • potrei ascoltare questa canzone mille e mille volte e avrei sempre la stessa stupenda sensazione!!!!

  • songs like this taught me about love my mother sure did'nt I was 16 and needed her

  • How very kind of you ..thanks for taking the time to upload......acts of kindness to others unknown consciously yet still ones genetic family give me strong signs of hope for our species.

I hope your day is well

  • Thank you really, 1965simonfellows-san!!

I am very glad for your warm comment.

    Have a great weekend!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • You look up the words sultry, sexy, smoky, sensual, whiskey in the glass, candles on the floor, etc. They will refer you to this song. The only other song that holds a candle to it in this genre is the Turtles You Showed Me. You could say they are companion pieces. Then there is Spooky. There are some good versions. Santana, Dusty Springfield, the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Listen to all three back to back you could make yourself very frustrated or very wet.

  • I need to find more jazzy BOSSA NOVA spicy songs like this

  • Probably the best ever pop song but maybe the best singer of a pop song too.

Why cant the girls today who have good voices try to sing like Dusty Petula Julie or Sandy for a change instead of always trying to be a screamer.

I wonder what Christina could do with this song except you just know that she would butcher it

  • She's not often referred to as 'The Voice' for nothing....

  • What a beautiful and talented "Lady" ...Too bad there are not many like this today.

  • Good music will never die. Dusty lives forever!

  • Dear friend thanks for sharing this beautiful song and fine singer....I wish you all the best lovely friend....pier

  • Thank you so much, Pier-san!!

    Otaku d(^o^)b

  • BEAUTIFUL!! classic song ...so lovely and beautiful

  • thank you dusty sings this song best

  • they dont make voices like this anymore. passionate without the overkill! you dont have to scream to make the point! less is more!!!

  • @carrier3232 Less is more is so true. You are so right.

  • OMG.....the sexiest, most heartfelt, emotional love song ever....and no one better to sing it than Dusty herself....WOW....just incredible....the sax accompaniment is sensuality at its best, and the piano.....mesmerizing, as was Dusty. She left us too soon....an accomplished, unbelievably fantastic artist.....so glad we had her talent in our timeframe.............rest in peace, Dusty......thank you.......

  • @007glynna Very simple and straight forward lovesong. The way Dusty sings it and the musicians playing makes this the love song ever regardless if its jazz, funk, rock or pop. So classy and adult-oriented. Timeless timeless gem

  • SO SEXY VOICE

  • There is no accounting for tastes.

Please do not mind some bad ratings.

    ...Otaku3

  • THE BEST!!!!!

  • Love this version :))

  • beautiful.

  • Timeless class! They'll be making love to this on space stations around Neptune!

  • Perfect.

  • Fantastic song featured in my favorite scene of one of my favorite movies... When Evelyn (Peter Sellers) meets Vesper (Ursula Andress) in Casino Royale, ca. 1967.

  • Simply great - thanks Dusty. You gave us a lot of love songs.

  • This is one of those rare recordings wherein I cannot comprehend how anyone can fail to see its beauty.

  • flashback to the sixties.

  • Class.

  • I remember dancing to this once...

  • Why do we have to put up with the BS the music industry gives us these days?

THIS is music! THIS is an artist! THIS is an arrangement! THIS is a composition!

THIS is something written from the heart and sung from the soul...

No editing, no pitch-correction, no autotune...

GOD please give us back REAL music!!! I beg you!!!

  • @Voiceguardian coudln't be more correct--and REAL movies too! Just watched CASINO ROYALE on DVD yesterday and thought I'd google the song!

  • @Voiceguardian You are so very right..Bring back real music with some real talent...John

  • @Voiceguardian you got i man! best words ever spoken!

  • @Voiceguardian Amen brother!

  • @Voiceguardian we DON'T have to put up with the new junk ... just pull out the oldies! Why would you want more than this? (Don't tell anyone ... but I still have some of my favorite 8-tracks!)

  • @Voiceguardian The problem is with the mainstream record companies and their obsession with what is "current". There a lot of good indie acts around though who respect the 60s, 70s and 80s!

  • @Voiceguardian GOD ALMIGHTY SPEAKING. I HEARD YOUR BEGGING AND EVERYTHING ELSE. I HEREBY

CAN ASSURE YOU THAT YOU SHALL HAVE REAL MUSIC BACK BEFORE ARMAGGEDON. MARK MY WORDS.

  • I'm a musician and a guitar player...at least I try and believe or not ! this the best version of this song.God has given us ears ! isn't it...so listen...it's so nice and sweet to our ears in the midst of the actual chaos...

  • I was nine years old when this came out. I think it has been lurking somewhere in my memory, trying to come forward. I might describe it as romantic, minimalist, classic, universally understood, and erotic, simulataneously..that is, if I were a music critic-type...

  • this song is infinitely sexy!!

  • J'adore cette version, une très belle voix !
