  • 2:35 and mute it.. hay who farted it was HIM! lmao

  • I love this song :-)

  • Ciaphas: "Hey Jesus! Tell you fanboys to keep it down! I'm tryin' to get some sleep here!"

  • "Hey,JC! JC! Would you fight for me?" The look on Jesus face: ummmmm.....wait a minute.....

"Hey,JC! JC! Would you DIE for me?!" The look on Jesus and Mary's face: what the?!!!!!!! Judas's face: um-hmmm told ya! LOL priceless! :D

  • infinitely inferior to the original version

  • i love how people always point out the terrible things in productions. yes, they're different. yes, there are going to be bad parts to every show. but you have to admit they're all good performances. otherwise they wouldn't have been made.

  • I prefer this version to the old one mainly because I like the modernness and no one gets hit by trees in this one lol :-)

  • Annas is smaller than Caiaphas yet he looks like he can tear your spine out with just a glance at you.

  • I like the voice from the Kaiaphas(the brown people)

    :D!!!!!!!!

his voice is lol and then I must be laugh :D!!!

  • I will never forget hearing this when I was a child. Never forgot the words. Love it!!!

  • This is supposed to open on Broadway soon and I'll be there for sure!

  • We shouldn't compare the two versions; both were made in reflection to the "hip" people of its time and both cultures are different.

I don't like this version mostly because of its setting. Ancient pillars and modern culture doesn't work well for this version.

  • I like this version a great deal. I liked the old 1973 film, but this has some great performances, too.

  • 1:25 is the most epic thing

  • at 1:51, simon has a friggin cross on his shoulder! that is wrong on so many levels.

  • if you think this is good think again 1973 the first jesus christ superstar is the best in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I'm not religious, but I actually like this. It's great how modern-day they've made it. It breaks down the stereotype about christianity being old-fashioned.

  • I don't like Glenn Carter's reaction to the "Won't you die for me" part. I think the 1973 version does that line much better; I prefer's Jesus' sad face to Jesus being all shocked (because He does know it is coming).

  • che bel bacino!!!

  • "Hey JC Jc, won't you die for me?"

    Jesus: o_o! *looks at Judas* ;A;

Judas: Pfffttttt, I warned you, but did you listen, noooooooo *slump*

  • I wish everyone would Shut up so i can hear the rocks and stones sing!

  • @ all people talking about LGBT

Remember, Jesus cane not to save those who were holy, but to redeem the misfits and the sinners

  • i would really die for these beautiful people, but look at his face! this isnt fair! he was a saint!

like, there is no thing thats right

    remember,we gotta fight!

as all martyrs who did their thing

ill drop this heroity, and feel like an king!!!

  • @plesisnjim are you trying to rap? a tip: rhyming is cool, but it's meaningless if it makes no sense.

  • Frederick B Owens is the best !!!! I love him!

  • @katand007

Um, Jesus was most likely Semitic, so he wouldn't look like the guy in the 70's film either. He would most likely look closer to a rabbi at your village synagogue.

  • That mob look like they've just come off a Gay Pride march.

  • @SpaceHeadMonkey

    What stupid comment.

  • judas!!

    hos,anna!!

  • @Sid in this version Jesus is shown more as the human prophet attempting to remain control. Emotion not knowledge. He's trying to teach Pure Love to gangstas. Yeah id be scared too.

  • i find that if i replace the characters of this song and one or two others not only does it make strange sense still but puts the whole story into a strange new context i wont say anymore as its a bit of a personal thing but still i find it rather interesting

  • The only thing I really like about this remake is the fact that Judas was added to this scene and points out the last line "would you die for me?" but it's almost like it's making it too obvious and makes Jesus look like he's thinking "what I have gotten myself into?" whereas in the original with the freeze frame it's almost as if to say "If only you knew what I'm doing for you."

  • who is the man at 0:45?? he looks like a vocalist in KUTLESS..

  • I like this interpretation of Jesus Carter makes Jesus seem so innocent almost childlike

  • @dreamerbelief123 I guess he does, but perhaps that's where it falls down for me- Jesus is not supposed to be childlike (he's God!) and doesn't seem convincing in this version. On the other hand, I can't help but the love the guy who plays Judas.

  • This Jesus sings better but doesn't have the look or bearing as the orignal 73 movie Jesus.

  • when was this made?...i kinda like it...

  • I agree, that this actor doesn´t look like Jesus, but he´s got really PERFECT voice, and Judas... I don´t have words for these performances, it´s brilliant. =o)

(Sorry for mistakes, I´m from Czech Republic and I don´t speak English very well)

  • @Katand007 I agree about Judas - every time I see this version I become even more amazed at his talent.

And your English is great, by the way. ; )

  • Jesus vs. Space Nazis. That may be the best idea anyone's ever had.

  • @regimetv This comment is too awesome...

  • Judas <3

  • um need new costumes and they need to look at how whalert catholic high school does it cuz this just isn't right.

  • Hosanna in the Hiiii - ace

  • judas is so sexy in this omg :D!!!

  • really hating this jesus...

  • 'Hey JC JC won't you die for me?'

    Jesus and Mary: 0_0

    Judas: *facepalm*

XD sorry, love this production :)

  • @lilanthia "Judas: *facepalm*" basically sums up the whole musical.

    Especially this version.

    XD

  • @lilanthia lol your comment made it that much better

  • Wonderful!!! Jesus is Answer to All...

  • Love this Song But this is Awful not even a Grater could handle this CHEESE

  • The most erroneous retelling I have ever come across

  • @allmikau

Sorry, but unless you were there for these events, you have no FACTS or knowledge of how it really went down. I for one love this version. It shows everyone in a different light. Not bad, not good, just different. Isn't that what story telling is all about?

  • I Love this movie version! The music is realy revilalized and more funky!! The old 70's version plays like a Jane Fonda workout video; (and what was with that jiffy pop crown on Caiaphas)

  • whats the problem? the gays have right to have a jesus too! XD

  • Ciaphas is singing through a cement mixer it seems.

I think my biggest problem with the 2000 version is that everyone hits each syllable with the music, instead of, I dunno, singing like normal people. Listen to the first line.

    TELL-THE-RAB-BLE-TO-BE-QUI-ET-WE-AN-TI-CI-PATE-A-RI-OT

  • I actually prefer the voice of the man in black over the one in the original film.

Because in that one the man is singing too low for his own voice.

    Which sounds amateuristic and annoying.

Maybe it gives some sort of style or character to it, but perhaps they should have used a singer like in this movie.

  • Where do they find these guys with these incredible voices?

  • this is coming from a 13 year old. the old one was way better. jesus looks to new and unused in this

  • Yeah

  • This Version is not as good as the one of 1973!

  • Judas at 2:40 is like, "good job, now look what you've done."

  • I love Judas in this version. The cynical and I-Told-You-So attitude is really spot on.

  • On cross i refuse to dy for your sins.Yoú did kill 6 Mio Jewws on Holocaust with intention.

    Mfg.

  • Monday i nfront of Palmsunday is Hosanna hey (SOS)

    save our souls.

    Mfg.

  • I remember some of the critial remarks in the 70's, no Resurrection - today in reviewing these clips and the focus on Judas perhaps focus on the dark side of each of our lives - the side we like to ignore. Perhaps it is easier to foucs on the Resurrection - and skip the shades of Judas in our own lives?

  • I dig it.

  • guy in a beret looks cute

  • This is as especially clever version!

And Glenn is... Hadn't heard earlier but he's gooood!

  • think about it if this really happen (this hosanna part)

  • I had this version on dvd and scratched it to beyond use, so happy to find it on u tube thank you so much

  • WHERE'S HIS BEARD?!?!?! I want the beard!! XP

  • your audio quality sucks

  • @rrchapman No, it's just got poor, melodramatic singing and acting. Pilate as a cartoon Nazi? Really?

  • I'm not sure I understand the design of the set really;

They use this one set throughout the film, they move stuff around, sure, but it's all the same throughout.

Was there a reason for this, or was it just low budget?

  • @Spudfish93 This film should pretty much be considered the stage version, cleaned up and recorded. As on the stage, the sets are reused and changed slightly to fit limited resources (though in a live performance, time would also be an issue).

  • 2:44 Huzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • JESUS RULES!

  • lol i rofled when i saw the "JESUS RULES" signs

  • This Show really gets people interested in the Bible. It's so modern and upbeat, that even the toughest of teenagers is cracked by it's music and story!!

  • 1973 is better ! Jesus should have a mustache !

  • I love this song. It's SO catchy!!

  • Thats not funny

  • sell the vatican and feed the world!!!

they are doing just the same these pharisees an so are doing---RIGHT NOW!!!

hey,Pope, how much costs that golden cross around your neck!?

  • @plesisnjim thumbs up for this one!!! i mean,my comment... really, how much would cost a cross around popes neck?

  • @plesisnjim All you'd do would increase food prices, sorry but that's the nature of the global economy. Although I do agree that there is no real need for so much damn gold, lol. how about you have a religion centered around your faith rather than over-trumped useless metals.

  • i like this version, but i gotta say, ted neely is a million times better. he looks more like jesus, i mean, i cant imagine glenn as jesus :/ his face doesnt fit to his role...

  • @GreenDayFanGirl01 I gotta say I agree with you. I've always said he looks like howard stern with blonde hair haha.... I do prefer the modernity of this version though

  • I love it !!!

  • Probably I am repeating an issue that already found its place here. But I must comment this: JCSS 2000 is way too bad compared with the original 1971 musical AND its cinema version of 1973 - I mean both music and show are affected by time degeneration.

Only the performance of Renee Castle [Mary Magdalene] - I feel like I can save it from disgrace: she's the only who could bring back the atmosphere... Not mentioning the nazi-romans (!) - and who's coming at the end of Hosanna? Dart Vader? Puah

  • I love how, with every version you see, you get a new experience. It keeps this show refreshing. =)

  • ,,theres none of us who ca not win the kingdom,,---vatican would call it blasfemy!!!

  • ,,theres none uf us who can not win the kingdom!!!,,

  • I LOVE BOTH VERSIONS!!! because they have shown us Jesus in our day. Whatever he was in the twenty-first century.

  • go JESUS he rocks!!!!!!!! the dude has a rlly weird voice

  • Ted nevim jestli je to lepší v angličtině nebo v češtoně :D !!

  • Ted nevim jestli je to lepší v češtině nebo v angličtině ??!! :)

  • People argue over which version was better. I say let's not forget the message.

  • I feel that people are just defending whatever version they saw first rather than appreciate the differences and time periods that preempted each version. I grew up with this version and love it way more than the 70s version. Perhaps people just have the version they saw first as the measuring stick for the other one, and since neither match up exactly, then one version must be horrible. I don't know why we need to debate which movie is better; they're for different audiences and different times

  • I like it.

I don't know why that fanatism towards the 70's version. They are both fine.

  • this is like a really bad joke.

  • @ChristieFystiki : Absolutely.

  • The 70's version is so much better in every single way. This version just doesn't compare. Yes, it is a "modern version" but the first is classic and and people who can't appreciate the old one, don't know good movies.

  • I have both versions on VCD and I play them against each other sometimes for comparison.

  • The original JCSS WAS A MODERNIZATION, and it was done well, tastefully, in a strange, and subtly powerful way. Those who need it to be constantly redone perhaps haven't looked closely enough at the original.

  • u got a better plan?

  • Best JCS version! Traditional but modern at the same time! I love it!!!

  • Doesnt this common crowd look pretty darn good for the great unwashed masses?

  • What is this production called? I want to watch the full one. I think it's an interesting version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • om youre just kidding about it

  • At 2:47 Judas is like, "Yep we are in deep sneakers now".

  • LOL, no offence or anything, but it looked like Darth Vader walking into the background as the clip ended. I'll have to check out the site and see if I can watch the whole thing there because, as much as I liked the original version the one (yes, ONE) time I saw it, I have to agree that this is a more modern adaptation....and very well done, I must say, as most RUG things are. ;)

  • "... there is not one of you who cannot win the kingdom..." Very inspiring!

  • at 2:35 I had the same reaction as Jesus there.

  • @LintuWaterfall hahaha XD

  • Ovation had listed this for last night, but they showed the 1973 version instead. I had not seen this one at all, and only remembered the 70s version somewhat. Funny, I was sooo tired that I thought that you all had done a "Psycho" and recreated the original frame for frame with a similar cast and costumes. (I was REALLY tired.) This version is very fresh. The original studio album has always been my point of reference - it was probably my favorite album of childhood. Glad to see these. Thanks!

  • Why are they so scared at the end ?

  • FIRST I TOTALLY THOUGHT IT SAID "GLENN COCO AS JESUS" IN THE DESCRIPTION. :O

  • HOSANNA HEY SANNA!!!

  • lol I've sining this song in my school. Everybody hate it. I just lol and sing. Then they start to sing it. They hate me xD

  • All the artists and singer in this version of the opera are good, but I thing there is a problem with the whole style (matter of taste I suppose) in directing it which give an "aseptic plastic cover" on the whole thing. I think that they should have been focusing so much more on the singing to make it all much more emotional and true!

  • i really like the actor playing Judas. He does a brilliant job. you feel every emotion.

  • love jesus's face when they sing "won't you die for me?" his face is like "ooh, i'm screwd"

  • i dont like this jesus, for some reason he makes jesus look cocky.

the 70's version is the best over all

  • @Meegaism Yea thats my issue with this Jesus, he comes across as arrogant sometimes which does not fit the character.

  • @SlappaDeBassMon ya i keep craking up! in the beginning, it looked like he came out of a spa lol!

  • @Meegaism Yes but he is the best thing EVER! sooo... cant blame him.

  • @Meegaism I agree. He's like a 90's rock star.

  • @Meegaism it's just another way of looking at what kind of person jesus was, he was just a man

  • @Meegaism

I agree about Jesus, not about version... here´s Judas better :D

  • 1:27 Adam Pascal? ahaha

  • ok who had the idea for the jesus rules sign XD

  • @thatguywithanocarina what happened to no slogans

  • @thatguywithanocarina Honestly, with everyone else in this video that makes one go "what?", I hadn't really noticed the tats. :)

  • ...ohhhkay, the cross tattoos just make less and less sense the more I think about them... what?

  • go to 1:27 and pause... where can i meet them?! haha

  • geil1

  • Judas at 2:40 is like "i told you so!"

  • Jesus rules!!!! :):):):):):):):):):)

  • The best cast ever!

  • I Lovee This

  • I actually thought this whole play was wrong. just by looking at the trailers. But I learned yet again that judging b4 seeing the product is wrong. So far, this musical is a good view on what happened in the Bible and so long ago. nicely done

  • I think this version has a lot of good points, like in this song there's a much stronger sense of commuinity and union of the people, and in one of the other songs the use of media and paparazi gave it an interesting modern spin. . . however I think the choice in cast and costume lets it down in places, the voices aren't strong enough and the actors don't seem to *understand* their characters, there isn't enough depth. It has it's good points, but I personally prefer the original.

  • Hey JC won't you FIGHT for me, hey JC won't you DIE for ME.

A better conceptualization of the problem with 'believers' has not been written. He even tells them their 'salvation' is within them and within the own efforts to achieve and yet they demand HE do the work for them.

  • i was in this with a few of these people in the uk tour in 2004 + 2005

  • Can you tell me if I can get this verison with Tony Vincent on DVD?

    Thanks Tom

  • If this Jesus was in the 1973 version then I think the old movie would be perfect. :D

  • 1:27 is the best:) I love Tony Vincent!

  • sino1

  • Caiaphas has perfected burp talk, I see.

  • best play ever.

  • why does there is an other film? the old one is so great! :O

  • Interesting - thanks for uploading the movie. Its one of our schools' productions this year. Judas' receding hairline is curious...

  • whats wit the marines?

  • @ringomainia Ever hear of literary liscense?

  • Hey J.C!

  • This is the seriously camp version i take it lol

  • 70s version was great. This is a slap in the face to the whole franchise.. I can't wait to see if the 2010 version is going to be good or not.

  • The 70s version had its time and place. Today it is so tame and acceptable that something is missing.

This version is closer to showing the counter-cultural nature of the message of Jesus for more current times. I hope any further productions keep Jesus Christ Superstar displaying this.

  • I completely disagree with you, this version is just about violence especially when jesus is being punished.

The 70s version is soooo good! It's a great musical, they beautifully sing and it's absolutely not tame, nothing is missing either!

  • @rrchapman if only the vocals were better. :P XD

  • lovoe both versions

  • The guy at 2:22 looks cutted in :D

  • Comment removed

  • was für ein ohrwurm ...

  • @SweetJul93 oohjaa. haben wir in musik geschaut und ich hatte eine ganze woche diesen ohrwurm :D

  • This newer version of JC superstar doesn't come close NOT even close to how brilliant the original was, but if I'd have to pick my favorite scene from this version, it'd be this song... but what's up with the key change at 2:20?

  • seriously? I hated the original :\

  • @DarthxErik well... they changed the key up :/
