Everyone says to ONLY use 1280x720, which isn't right. First of all, 1280x720 is ONLY if your video was captured via a wide aspect ratio. If it wasn't, then you'll end up with double letterboxing, and your video will be really small when you upload it. All you have to do is set your resolution to the same res. it was captured in. If it was captured in something lower than HD res. then obviously you won't get clear HD video on youtube, but instead just a larger screen. Simple as that.

I record my computer games using FRAPS and I wanted to take the output recordings and use Sony Vegas\Movie Studio to effectively reduce my 1920x1200 4+GB files into something not taxing on memory while retaining most of it's quality and is at least 720p. Remember, a good quality video with default template gives a nice boost for HD. A video with very bad pixels wont change much
