Rickson and Ruas NEVER fought. That 'rumur' was started by a UFC announcer in error. Ruas fought Carlson Gracie black belt, Pinduka in 1984

ruas had a far more credible record than rickson in terms of opposition.Rickson fought totally useless opponents,thats why hes unbeaten. As a grappler,hes brilliant but he was never a world champion in anything,he retired from bjj over 6 years before the first world champs even began.

the fight between rickson and ruas was a rumored fight. i did read an interview with ruas saying he challenged rickson, something about rickson insulted ruas, i dont know if by "challenged" he meant to imply they did fight but the rumor is old. it's possible since back then, lots of vale tudo fights did not end up on official records. rei zulu had like 100 fights and then his first recorded fight was against rickson.

Research is no substitute for having followed the sport back in the day. So much that was "published" on the web has been removed since then. Ruas deserved alot more publicity back in the late 80's to mid 90's for all of his martail arts competitions, boxing, and maui thai fights. In my opinion Ruas was a tribute to how tough Brazilon fighters were (and are), and he should have been popular as much as Royce G. but not more than the Gracie family name. Bas Rutten and Marco Ruas were a great "alliance" in fighting arts in true old school fashion.
