  • that is awesome!

  • Why bother living in a city if there's no community and serendipity of just ASKING SOMEONE.

  • @CuteShooter a lot of the people in the city don't live there. besides.. who want's to hear "fuck off" over and over??

  • wouldnt be useful for me or anyone else who lives no where near big cities etc

  • babe

  • I hereby name thee: "Tasty".

That other guy you were talking to - not so much.

Umm, what were you guys talking about?

  • I am surprised that no one didnt realize how much this program would reduce battery life, even now not so great, try to use it with the cam on,in an hour you have nothing left

actually this program seems not a great feature to be honest

  • what your going to see next is this built in to sunglasses or contacts. can't wait for this to catch on and i hope the government doesn't abuse it.

  • yea a map seems easier

  • yeah forget about the app! can i download the hot presenter on the app store?

  • Tube = british for subway... lol.

  • omg BLAITANT PROPAGNDA if you say yes to RFID you are securing your imprisonment he was SOOO paid to say that

  • You moron, he is talking about RFID in product labelling. The application could be used in conjunction with RFID to allow the App's user to quickly find an item of clothing in the size and colour they want, within a store. RFID in that context possess zero threat to your liberty.

  • he who shoots the first bullet LOOSES. unlucky dawg

  • That doesn't even make sense...

  • have biometrics already been integrated in to these devices?

how did the system recognize that male ?

    with all his information?

  • i think that was just a demo of what opengl can do

  • man i hope..

  • At a guess either facial recognision or more likely a fiduciary marker somewhere on his person.

  • that would be so handy when i get the tube in london with the family does it do over head

  • I'd laugh so hard if someone is using this app and gets hit by a car.

  • Use a map r-tards

  • dam your so hot

  • Orrrrrrrrr we could just read signposts.

  • You do realise that a lot of places don't sign post very well right?

  • Yeah, especially a sprawling metropolis, there aren't going to be many signs there are there?

  • You'd be suprised actually. Signage for Tubes and subways can very often suck, This app allows people to hit a button and get a direction to set of in. That is useful, regardless of what you might think.

  • Well you could always, you know, ask someone ... You're not telling me that you're so socially reclusive you've forgotten how to talk to someone in real life?

  • Not at all, but having lived in major cities, i know from experience that when your in a rush, and you need to find something, the last thing you want to do is ask, because people either won't know, will get it wrong or will treat you like your mad for daring to talk to a stranger. Also, many major cities have subway stops in areas where you would be better off not stopping and asking directions, or where their isn't actually anyone around to ask.

  • It is at the end of the day, a tool. You don't see a use for it in your life, fine dont use it, personally, i am really excited by the possiblities of augmented reality, and this app, with a more user friendly interface, such as glasses, would be something i would make use of. Not because i can't ask, but because it would be useful.

Also, more often than not, most people won't know with any certainty which stop is closest, they'll just point you at the one they know best.

  • Well I suppose when you look at it like that. It just seems to me like they've put too much effort into a fairly trivial dilemma.

  • They are in the business of making money, if people buy it then hey.

Hey i would imagain that you eat ready meals, i see them that as putting to much effort into a fairly trivial dilemma.

  • oh, i didn't realise the iphone had GPS. That's neat.

  • WOW! cooool.

  • Great, the iphone manages to help people not worry about thinking... again. Common sense mental exercise are just too hard for this generation.

How hard is it to actually look around in a store for something yourself, or ask for directions? People that depend on this kind of technology become de-humanized, they don't know how to communicate, except with their beloved toys. I can't wait to see them all panicking when the network fails. It will someday, its man-made... it can't last forever.

  • well if its anything like the pyramids then we dont need to worry for a while

  • Common sense died years ago.

I know what i am doing, I am sitting back laughing as everyone is going around in the HOMG the world is duuuummmmedddd (doomed )

  • I don't know much about hardware and programming, but I wonder why they can't combine accelerometers and gyroscopes with GPS to help maintain an accurate position inside of buildings.

  • Molly should just stay in Britain and not bother coming back. Foolish little child anchor.

  • Indeed. Have have three geek points and a helping of spice :)

  • she's hot :D

  • lal

  • less molly more ellie :)

  • Gief Me Molly!!!!

  • Will Molly come back?

    Please say yes =D

  • Hey all, Molly is in the UK and we are waiting to be sure that our governments approve Molly's work visa before we are allowed to work together in the future. We are hoping this will happen this upcoming week in which case Molly will be hosting Rocketboom daily from then on out. Thanks for keeping a look out! - Andrew

  • yaay, thanks for the answer.

Now I will wait patiently for Molly's comeback

  • BROOKLYN!

  • RFID is EVIL Don't ever take the chip!! why undertake another system of control. You don't see it now but eventually your stats are your worth a product on a scale weighing out the checks and balence of the governments agenda...getten so close now they advertise it like this....i will live until i die so i live without fear!!

  • GUN is EVIL Don't ever take the clip!! why undertake another system of control. You don't see now but eventually your fear of your neighbour and strangers will lead you to be more likely to die as a result of gun crime. The arms companies want to profit from your fear. I live without fear and with a reasoned approach to crime statistics, so i am safer, and less likely to be shot.

  • In truth, no technology is innately good or evil and almost all technologies have applications which can be benificial and applications which are morally dubious.

The firearms you undoubtably consider your right and protection can be just as much a tool of control as the RFID tag could be, but the RFID tag is just as capable of being a tool of liberty. As i have pointed out elsewhere, RFID puts forwards the possiblity of truly free markets. Trade in which informed consumers are free.

  • Gosh you sound soo fearless.

  • I must not fear.

    Fear is the mind-killer.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

    I will face my fear.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

    Only I will remain.

  • Thanks for sharing. If that's the case go get shot.

  • I have no special desire to have my life end. Your getting really angry about a statement that was parady.

  • Also, given the relatively low rate of gun crime in the UK, thanks to the rarity of firearms here, i'd really have to go out of my way to get shot...

  • What's wrong with Google maps and walking towards the destination?

  • I believe this way is more user-friendly and less tedious than entering the text into google maps. Also, you don't need to know the street of the subway station in order to find one (unlike google)

  • thats a great bit of tec, shame wont touch an i phone with a bardge pole.

  • I love how he lies about the pervasiveness of OpenGL. There are many 3d applications and games that don't use OpenGL.... in fact, a good portion of PC games use DirectX, and there are even some out there that use their own 3d engines.

  • Direct X is NOT a game engine.

  • Also- With no DirectX on mac or Linux, OpenGL is what is used.

  • I think he was referring to games and 3D apps for the iPhone... He could have explained that tho...

  • But before the DirectX days, OpenGL was the shiznit, and its still wonderful today.

  • We don't have a subway here. A virtual shopping app might be more useful and help save time when trying to find an item you want nearby at the best price.

  • pretty cool

  • wow, she is sexy. odd how he doesn't show his hands at all, even to say bye... hmm... oh wait, about the actual subject of the video: yeah, that is pretty cool. i believe this is the same guy behind the portable "HUD" technology as well (puts a virtual phonepad on your hand, display time by doing wrist motion if had watch on, scan barcode and see more info, so forth and so on). Keep up the great work.

  • Can u say invasion of privacy? I don't think we this app to evolve any further.

  • Why? Do you dislike the fact that you tube know what your likely to like and presents you with videos that you might enjoy? That your search engine learns your search patterns and provides you infomation based on your preference?

I personally relish the idea of a App that will allow me to quickly and easily boycot products produced by compainies who's products do not meet the standards i require. I look forwards to getting a guide through unfamiliur cities.

  • This technology presents us with the tools we need to make truly free markets work.

Your privacy maybe very important to you, but not every one considers their privacy to start in the same place. Who are you to say that this App and the surounding technology should not evolve, when i, or some one else would like access to it. If you don't like it, opt out, live on a small plot of land, grow your own food and don't engage with society.

  • how is it any more of an invasion than gps

  • or using a credit card, making an online purchase, using wireless internet, making a mobile phone call or any other behaviour that leaves any kind of digital paper trail.

  • Do want.

  • it starts now that's how they are going to know where we're at at all time what we're doing and how to kill the ones that are with them only one to stop this anarchy ;]

  • nice..

  • i like jamie dubs better.

  • Why her nod looked so weird and fake?

Anyways cool video. I just need an I phone and a ticket to new-york to get going!

  • Because she's a robot.

  • I love Ellie.

  • She`s too nerdy for the stylish London.

  • Cleavage FTW! :D

  • Yeah! <3 :)

  • love the idea but anything involving RFID kinda scares me. maybe it's the media seeping in but the idea of it is scary to me. :(

  • techinacally, tube, isn't english for subway, we call the london underground the tube, but if we built another underground train system, i doubt it wud b called the tube

  • this was funny :P

  • cool technology, now if we can just get the trains to run on time....

  • so what? molly is gone too? i kinda liked her , and was pretty good (and attractive ffs).

  • No one liked Molly.

  • I wouldnt say so.We all know that Joanne was the best host ever , but Molly wasn't bad. Although Caitlin was a catastrophe

  • she's cute and hot and cute........I said cute twice didn't I?

  • Ellie is smokin'

  • Saying Tube is British for subway isn't exactly right. The Tube is the name of the underground railroad or subway in London. So saying The Tube is like saying The L in Chicago. However, in Britain, Subway means an underground walkway, usually under a road. To talk about any train system underground in Britain, you would say an underground railway.

  • While what you are saying is true, in Glasgow the term Subway can refer to the underground rail (which is one single line of 15 stations), or a pedestrian underpass. Or overpriced sandwiches.

  • The Underground, or 'a bunch of useless c@#%$' is also valid nomenclature for the London Underground.

  • Haha

  • Interesting. I didn't know that. I am an American and I have been living in England for over a year now. Never been to Glasgow though, have been up to Edinburgh though. I have always heard subway as an underground walkway here, but I don't know all the slang yet and figure I never will.

  • 5 bucks says he was staring at the same thing i was... lol

  • i want to rocket in to her

  • RFID tags were talked about in the movie Zeitgeist! Oh My God! Rocketboom is helping the elite class implant chips in us so they can track us and turn us into their slaves! Google Zeitgeist! Watch the movie!

  • RFID, Open Source and AR are, in combination, a potentially democratising agent.

In five years, it is entirely possible that individuals will be able to filter out unsolicited visual advertising and packaging based marketing, based upon the combination of perfect information and your ethics.

Zeitgeist is a paranoid memeitic disease, which reacts with fear to some of the most important emerging technologies. Watch it by all means, but just because one one makes a claim, doesn't make it true.

  • HE'S ONE OF THEM! They're trying to enslave us, and Rocketboom is helping them!

  • Yikes you make a very valid point...

  • I give this five stars, because both my penis AND my hand tell me to.

  • Muggers and pick-pockets should really love how that distracts their potential victims.

  • Well, we better hope that some one markets some decent AR glasses soon then.

  • My phone GPS is accurate to 3 feet. sux2biPhone fag.

  • Your ignorance is stunning, really is.

  • Lulz, says the guy who can't spell "you're".

  • If I had said 'Your ignorant beyond belief', you would be right. But 'your' is the is the possessive form of you. I was talking about his ignorance, so your is correct.

Starting a nitpicking argument on spelling when you don't even know which word is appropriate is not smart.

Failboy is fail, and manages to fail EPICly.

  • you are ignorance is stunning?

  • Exactly Spock.

  • Socialism and Entrepreneurship have never gone together that is a fact, I did exaggerate with the billion generations deliberately to make a point about what a dangerous path we are in.

  • Hyperbole certainly does not help your argument, but claim as fact something that you provide no evidence for does worse. The Northern European Social Democracies and the UK stand in stark opposition to your claim. Evidence will always trump rhetoric. Bye bye libertarian magic dust snorter.

  • Cuba too. While their is much that is wrong with Cuba, the socialist revolution directly caused hither to unseen developments in the fields of urbanised agriculture, in the form of roof gardening, and that development was entirely Entrepreneurial. I know it is comforting to believe that a single ideological standpoint will solve all your problems, but it wont.

Not all socialism is innately bad, not all Neo-liberalism is innately good.

  • amen.

  • Don't make me laugh France is nothing but a Islamosewer now and Britain is not lagging far behind in that category either with tons of Islamists inmigrants that hate your guts and would love nothing more to kill you and on top of that live off the dole, yeah great examples there. All that France now has to show for are riots and Muslim no go zones! :D

  • Well, for a start, france is not one of the Northern European Social Democracies, so it's state does not have a direct impact on my statement.

Secondly. the fact that the UK has a small problem with a vocal minority of religious faith have nothing to do with economic politics, and those who live in glass houses should not throw stones, or should i bring up the negative impact that catholic faith has on H.I.V. provention and family planning in latin america?

  • Secterian devision, in no way is connected to the ability of Entrepreneurial activity to succeed or fail in a partially socialistic country. Your argument is entirely fallacious.

If you want to make an argument that england is bad because it allows freedom of religion and opinion amongst it's citizens, even when we dislike elements of that opinion, that is fine, but you loose any right to consider yourself a libitarian if your advocating social control on that level.

  • Again, finally something useful from Rocketboom.

  • oh shoot, so i think that i just slobbered onto my keypad; sorry (but, good news: so i missed by 20 or 30 feet, or so).

  • Free Molly!!!

  • RFID chips will not work.

  • RFID TAGS SHOULD NOT EXIST

  • Why do you say that?

  • What an ignorant thing to say.

  • they shouldn't exist because they're used to track everything and eventually they'll track people too.

  • They can be used to track things, the doesn't mean they have to be.

And even if they where used to track people, there are genuine, non-authoritatian uses for that.

While on the other hand, increasingly, any mobile communication device, could be used for just as authoritarian applications as RFID.

You can't say a technology should not exist, but you can argue that it should not be used in certain ways.

  • is this app available to download?

  • She is hot.

  • Go out and meet real people. xD

  • out? you mean step outside DOOR?!! NEVER!!

  • where the fuck is molly?

  • thats what i wanna know

  • I miss molly too =(

  • Lol and just before Molly people missed Cait... How quickly we forget :P

    just playin' :D

  • I subscribed right when Molly came about.

I didn't get to know Cait

  • i still miss joanne ='(

  • Whoah. This is exactly the sort of thing William Gibson was talking about in Spook.

  • Cool report Ellie

Particularly liked hearing about open GL

  • She's cute.

  • cool :D

  • This is by far the hottest chick on rocket boom.

I like her Know your Meme skits

  • chube = british for tube

  • Just imagine an app that can use augmented reality to track people wherever the walk in real time by tracking their cell phones...

  • yeaa, that's kinda creepy

  • That app is friggin cool! and Ellie is friggin hot! Perfect vid!

  • Comment removed

  • i lived in Manhattan 1992 - 2000...it was NEVER a problem finding the nearest subway using basic intellectual principles, even when i just moved there...

  • msherwood111111 : It's not just for Manhattan, it's for everywhere. It's easy to find a subway in New York, but in other places it might not be ie Toronto! :)

  • yea it look really cool, but, what if u go looking at the phone and theres a big hole on the road and u walk right in to it?.

  • so cool

  • oww i got really excited then then i realised it wasnt "subway restaurant" :( ha ha ha pretty cool idea though i think myidea is next step hint hint to the guy who made it :)

  • sasadads

  • Future Soldier Hud Tech. You could use this to direct convoys, or pinpoint enemy troops with a UAV. Awesome job guys.

  • I think it'd be cool to have it on your car windscreen.

  • Wrong kinds of "augmented reality" bud.

  • cram it, dirtbag
