I think most Zang ethnic minorities (Tibetans) activists, living outside of their motherland, China and a small number inside China, including a small minority of Western sympathisers have realized that they have lost a lot of respect in the International Communities today. 1. Recent US poll says Chinese citizens give its government 80% approval rating, highest of any country.
2. None of your own esteemed Tibetans historians agree with you: Melvyn goldstein, Tom Grunfeld, Barry Sautman will all tell you Tibet has been part of China since 1200's. Why don't you people read books instead of pretending to be experts and make up your own versions of history?
3. Sounds like fear mongering to me; if you can't debate on the facts, don't make yourself look stupid.
Most of the people who gave approval to chininese govt. are the people who are brought up by your govt. and educated in such a way, Those who doesn't give approval are in danger.. what other choice is there?
go to jail or simply doesn't say anything or say in favour of the regime.
World knows about Tibet well enough, doesn't matter how much you try to mislead them. Tibetan history is longer than 1200 years and it remained sovereign state after.
The US based Pew Institute doesn't know how to conduct a meaningful survey?
Educated by the government? It's called a secular education; something Tibet never had when the dalai ruled as god-king.
If Tibet was in fact ever sovereign, it would have been recognized by at least one country outside of colonial Britain from 1200 - now. This isn't the case.
The British empire also claimed India+Nepal around that time. Recognizing Tibet as sovereign is just one step before colonization.
never mind those protest outside china. if u do this in China, u'd better pray that police come quickly to save u, because Chinese people will kick u in the balls
China is not an ideal communist country, it is actually a mafia country wearing a communist suit. People are abused and killed every day, you sell arms to military government with no ethics. You say are communist but economy is purely state run capitalist, while your party members become richer, rural people give away their land for more new buildings with no compensations, while u promised freedom of speech during olympics u gave none, "Chinese government is a mafia, it never was communist"
HAHA who said exile-Tibetans are talking about return of Dala rule?. NO ONE is taking about that. For decades Tibetans are saying a complete democratic government for Tibet, with no role of the Dalai Lama in politics and this plan is actually laid out by The Dalai Lama himself...
SO I just suggest you read more news and articles from independent news agent than all the communist propaganda.
Coward Tibetans go fight the the Chinese Army rather than acting like wusses and talk sht behind their back. Losers and lowlifes do that. You don't see Chinese people say they want Mao back in power, but you sure hear alot of "exiled" tibetans who want the Dalai Lama and religious rule back. If they are that stupid then they shouldn't deserve to have their country, if they have their country than its against nature's rule.
Only authoritarian morons like yourself have a hard time understanding that these protesters are not necessarily all Tibetan.
And "nature's rule"? Last time I checked that sort of thinking justified things like, say, European colonialism in Africa or shoving people into ovens during the Holocaust. Stop being such an idiot.
europeans colonized africa by reason of saving the africans (through christianity?); when the british invaded tibet in 1913, they said it was necessary to open up trade (through indemnity paid by china mind you).
now once again, history is repeating itself; not just in tibet, but in iraq, afghanistan, south ossetia, congo, etc. all places where the western powers have a strategic political or economic interest. but if you ask, they'll say they are there for improve human rights. ha!
Don't mislead yourself. Tibet was never a legitimate, recognized country, period. Show me one documented reference outside of colonial Britain that says Tibet was ever a country, I'll shut myself up!
It wasn't free either! dalai was a feudal theocratic ruler. 90+ percent of the population were slaves (if you play with semantics, serfs)! Even today, the "exile" Tibet government in Dharmsala isn't free! It's ruled by the dalai family. And to keep his power, dalai has outlawed Dorje Shugden.
1. Nepal, Mongolia, Britain, Russia, Taiwan, India, US all recogniz"ed" Tibet as a legitimate Country. Although besides the first two, the rest have now changed much of their stance.
2. "Dalai" is a title not a family surname, hence there is no Dalai family. Unless you're referring to his close group of supporters.
3.The arguments against Dorje Shugden is actually agreed upon by many Rinpoche and believers. Although outlawing it is hypocritical for Dalai in terms of Religious freedom.
1. When did any country besides colonial Britain ever recognized Tibet as an independent country? Show me some documented proof. I've never seen one myself.
2. I'm talking about the 14th dalai lama's immediate family: an older brother served as chairman of the Kashag; A sister-in-law served as head of the government-in-exile's planning council and its Department of Health; Their daughter was made a member of the Tibetan parliament in exile;
A younger brother has served as a senior member of the private office of the Dalai Lama and his wife has served as education minister.
The second wife of a brother-in-law serves as the representative of the Tibetan government-in-exile for northern Europe and head of international relations for the government-in-exile. All these positions give the Dalai Lama's family access to millions of dollars collected on behalf of the government-in-exile.
Bertrand Russell, mathematician and philosopher and a Nobel prize laureate in literature:

But the Buddhist priesthood - as it exists, for example, in Tibet - has been obscurantist, tyrannous, and cruel in the highest degree.
- Bertrand Russell, "Has Religion Made Useful Contributions to Civilization" (1930)
Tibet lost its chance to be independent around the 1910s; the British didn't support the cause, and the Tibetan clergy feared modernization would ruin the religious atmosphere. When Mao came up in the 1950s, Tibet had no choice but to be "re-integrated" (this was actually the first time Tibet was really controlled by the Chinese)
China belongs to Chinese and Tibetan belongs to Tibetans. Every one Tibetan killed, Chinese are making hundred anti-chinese Tibetans. Wake Up Chine, your time is coming to an end. Tibetans will revolt!
DeigoXenos, that's real logic there. I like that...:) Lets see, there are 6 million Tibetans in total. If there are 1/2 killed (let's assumed killed, because there is no evidence Han Chinese are committing genocide in Tibet), then you have 300 million pissed Tibetans??? If you cap it at the maximum, that's still far far from the number of anti-succession Chinese of 1.3 billion.

Well Mao didn't really behaved like a gentleman during the occupation of Tibet.
I would say before we chinese people accuse others for having feudal system and so on, we should first clean up our past by ourself.
It's called accomplishment of the past.
The problem is we do not, our government CP makes it impossible for us. The germans did accomplish shortly after the nazzi regime. But many of us do not and also many russians do not. What can we lose if we start with that? Nothing
Chinese4Humanrights, I do stongly agree with you there is no accomplishment of the past in China. If people would know better about the past of communism they would not support it or maybe just a few hardliners. In Europe many chinese did accomplish with their past but in Mainland the government makes it impossible...
No accomplishments? CCP brought over 300 million people out of poverty in the last 30 years. That's one accomplishment no government through out history has been able to accomplish.
Chinese history extends over 5000 years. No accomplishments?
If you focus on Tibet, the CCP has abolished the Dalai slavery system, feudal tax system (Tibetan Chinese pay less taxes than Han Chinese), established secular schools (free education mind you). These are accomplishments...
I think China should follow America's great example of democracy and humanism: 1)draft up a contract for all of tibet's current land in exchange for some trinkets and 26 shares of google stocks and then call it fair play. Oh, and also hand over some blankets with anthrax for them, and then 2)10 years later, accidentally let some "settlers" build a village on their land, and 3)later annex that land on the claim of manifest destiny. Repeats steps 1-3 until the tibetans have only 10 acres left.
Free Hawaii from the Tyranny of Freedom! That is about the same message as 'Free Tibet'... China isn't perfect, but its better then a "free" (aka feudal) Tibet.
I'm just drawing a parallel. Its called a metaphor. Look, and learn, what exactly tibet wants. Look and learn what tibet came from. Leaving tibet to their own devices is a bad idea. China isn't great, but it is better then a "free" tibet.
I see you are another Tibetan intellectual...I totally agree with you, Tibet was totally fucked by the feudal system under dalai. god-kings and democracy just doesn't mix.
Nothing
Mao didn't treat anyone well when he ruled, including Han Chinese. The Chinese are not talking about a return of Mao rule, but exile-Tibetans are talking about a return of Dalai rule. This makes questions about Dalai feudal systems legitimate; his status of god-king has not changed, and if you look at the "exile" government in India, you'll see that the Dalai is never overruled. There is a real possibility that Tibet goes back to old feudal system if Tibet comes under Dalai rule again.
No, the chinese are not talking about Mao's return but many chinese wish he would return, there are still many who adore him.
Like I said there is no acomplishment of our past.
Well if Tibet turns back to feudal system, this is not our problem. If tibetans want their system back, leave them their system. We chinese like to solve our internal problems alone without any interfering from abroad, I therefore say let tibetians handle their own internal problem.
How many is many? For a Chinese, you sure don't understand anything about the Chinese. There are 1.3 billion, and I would fathom no more than 1% of people in China think it's a good idea to go back to Mao rule.
Zero accomplishments? Maybe you should not call yourself Chinese...
You forget China considers Tibet to be part of China. This line of thought hasn't changed for centuries. Tibet is part of China, so a Tibet problem is a Chinese problem.
I suggest you go read the tibet exile government's charter. All the executive power belongs to Dalai Lama (theoretical dictator). I also suggest you go check whether your "prime minister" is a "reincarnated" monk or not. Democracy? I would rather be ruled by Kim Jong II than by Dalai Lama. Dictator sucks big time, but theoretical dictator sucks 100 times more
Well geez, there is an existing "exile" Tibetan government in Dharamsala, and dalai has put his own family members as the head of various departments of that government. The Kashag has never overruled the dalai, not once! all this stuff you talk about is nothing more than smoke and mirrors to fool the west. the "exile" Tibetan government is still theocratic, like the old feudal times. It doesn't matter what's talked about or whats on paper, its the ACTIONS!
All exile Tibetans can vote for the present prime minister, so what can u say about this. Y u chinks r so persistent in ignoring the facts, don't be so stupid!
keep reminding yourself that you have a democracy in your "exile" government, and keep reminding yourself that you can defeat the 1.3 billion strong China army.
I didn't know that the army was made up of the entire population of China (including children and the elderly, apparently). Thanks for betraying your totalitarian views to everyone, though.
In recent years, three of the six members of the Kashag, or cabinet, the highest executive branch of the Tibetan government-in-exile, have been close relatives of the Dalai Lama.
An older brother served as chairman of the Kashag and as the minister of security.
A sister-in-law served as head of the government-in-exile's planning council and its Department of Health.
A younger sister served as health and education minister and her husband served as head of the government-in-exile's Department of Information and International Relations.
The second wife of a brother-in-law serves as the representative of the Tibetan government-in-exile for northern Europe and head of international relations for the government-in-exile. All these positions give the Dalai Lama's family access to millions of dollars collected on behalf of the government-in-exile.
No, its more like, your neighbor putting cameras in your house to prevent you from beating your wife. Sure, its an invasion of privacy, but your wife is not beaten senseless or murdered...
tibetan activitists, your British overlords called. they are disappointed that you are still showing their 'snow lion' flag. they believe it's out of step with their brand new image; cause you know, they are not an empire anymore.
read simla convention, or what happened when an empire splits a country.
"What is true of Christianity is equally true of Buddhism. The Buddha was amiable and enlightened; on his deathbed he laughed at his disciples for supposing that he was immortal. But the Buddhist priesthood - as it exists, for example, in Tibet - has been obscurantist, tyrannous, and cruel in the highest degree." -- Bertrand Russell
Let's all stop talking about stuff we have no clue about.
i guess its a lot better to accept colonialism instead.
Whitemans burden or Chinamen's burden.
Its not a question of who's worse, its a matter of the peoples right to remain who they are.
stop using the Asteck's argument over here. Cause at the end of the day, colonialism is colonialism. And I agree with you. "Lets stop talking about stuff you have no clue about"...go school yourself on what Colonialism does to a people.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
-- Amendment I, The Constitution of the United States of America
In short, for this discussion, this Amendment doesn't protect the speech you want to hear. It protects the speech you don't want to hear.
First the IOC says there is no pollution in Beijing, only mist. Now they do this. Apparently the IOC is not a neutral body. They seem to be in the tank for China
What the IOC is allowing China to do is disgusting. Tibet is one issue, but supporting and facilitating China's maniuplation of it's image on the rest of the world is just plain wrong.
Although the olympic games are crap anyway, making a mockery of them doesn't help - especially if you're in the UK where they're busy pissing away all our money to bring olympic boredom here. We'll complete building it just as we realise no one is interested and are another several billion in national debt.
More of a shame that google/youtube bows to a corrupt org like the IOC. Especially since this is clearly not copyright infringement in any possible way.
It's quite legal to identify a group by its logo to protest them. There's no trademark dilution or consumer confusion.
how is that? china has a total population of 1.3 billion. 400 million live a relative middle class lifestyle, but rest of 900 million live under a hundred dollars a year. no, china IS still a third world country by ANY measure.
what is this???

Repeats steps 1-3 until the tibetans have only 10 acres left.
mao12345 3 years ago
You're right man.
We're soon going to be left not even with 10acres. We're being depopulated by setllers/colonialists.

Free Hawaii from the Tyranny of Freedom! That is about the same message as 'Free Tibet'... China isn't perfect, but its better then a "free" (aka feudal) Tibet.
IdleGod 3 years ago
oii...dun try to delegitimize one indigenous movement with another indigenous movement that is also fighting against colonialism.
FREE HAWAII FREE TIBET!
dezzyl 3 years ago
I'm just drawing a parallel. Its called a metaphor. Look, and learn, what exactly tibet wants. Look and learn what tibet came from. Leaving tibet to their own devices is a bad idea. China isn't great, but it is better then a "free" tibet.
IdleGod 3 years ago
r u kidding, China is better than free Tibet?
Haha its like saying letting ur neighbour fuck ur wife is better than fucking urself.
Freealll 3 years ago
I see you are another Tibetan intellectual...I totally agree with you, Tibet was totally fucked by the feudal system under dalai. god-kings and democracy just doesn't mix.
lc36163 3 years ago 2
Well Mao didn't really behaved like a gentleman during the occupation of Tibet.
I would say before we chinese people accuse others for having feudal system and so on, we should first clean up our past by ourself.
It's called accomplishment of the past.
The problem is we do not, our government CP makes it impossible for us. The germans did accomplish shortly after the nazzi regime. But many of us do not and also many russians do not. What can we lose if we start with that? Nothing
Chinese4Humanrights 3 years ago 2
Mao didn't treat anyone well when he ruled, including Han Chinese. The Chinese are not talking about a return of Mao rule, but exile-Tibetans are talking about a return of Dalai rule. This makes questions about Dalai feudal systems legitimate; his status of god-king has not changed, and if you look at the "exile" government in India, you'll see that the Dalai is never overruled. There is a real possibility that Tibet goes back to old feudal system if Tibet comes under Dalai rule again.
lc36163 3 years ago 2
I was beginning to think I was crazy. Too many people don't understand your point. Yes, china is bad. But a "free tibet" is worse.
IdleGod 3 years ago
No, the chinese are not talking about Mao's return but many chinese wish he would return, there are still many who adore him.
Like I said there is no acomplishment of our past.
Well if Tibet turns back to feudal system, this is not our problem. If tibetans want their system back, leave them their system. We chinese like to solve our internal problems alone without any interfering from abroad, I therefore say let tibetians handle their own internal problem.
Chinese4Humanrights 3 years ago
Chinese4Humanrights,
How many is many? For a Chinese, you sure don't understand anything about the Chinese. There are 1.3 billion, and I would fathom no more than 1% of people in China think it's a good idea to go back to Mao rule.
Zero accomplishments? Maybe you should not call yourself Chinese...
You forget China considers Tibet to be part of China. This line of thought hasn't changed for centuries. Tibet is part of China, so a Tibet problem is a Chinese problem.
lc36163 3 years ago
HAHA who said exile-Tibetans are talking about return of Dala rule?. NO ONE is taking about that. For decades Tibetans are saying a complete democratic government for Tibet, with no role of the Dalai Lama in politics and this plan is actually laid out by The Dalai Lama himself...
SO I just suggest you read more news and articles from independent news agent than all the communist propaganda.
Freealll 3 years ago
I suggest you go read the tibet exile government's charter. All the executive power belongs to Dalai Lama (theoretical dictator). I also suggest you go check whether your "prime minister" is a "reincarnated" monk or not. Democracy? I would rather be ruled by Kim Jong II than by Dalai Lama. Dictator sucks big time, but theoretical dictator sucks 100 times more
logicandfact 3 years ago
Freealll,
Well geez, there is an existing "exile" Tibetan government in Dharamsala, and dalai has put his own family members as the head of various departments of that government. The Kashag has never overruled the dalai, not once! all this stuff you talk about is nothing more than smoke and mirrors to fool the west. the "exile" Tibetan government is still theocratic, like the old feudal times. It doesn't matter what's talked about or whats on paper, its the ACTIONS!
lc36163 3 years ago
All exile Tibetans can vote for the present prime minister, so what can u say about this. Y u chinks r so persistent in ignoring the facts, don't be so stupid!
Freealll 3 years ago
keep reminding yourself that you have a democracy in your "exile" government, and keep reminding yourself that you can defeat the 1.3 billion strong China army.
Good luck!
lc36163 3 years ago
China is not an ideal communist country, it is actually a mafia country wearing a communist suit. People are abused and killed every day, you sell arms to military government with no ethics. You say are communist but economy is purely state run capitalist, while your party members become richer, rural people give away their land for more new buildings with no compensations, while u promised freedom of speech during olympics u gave none, "Chinese government is a mafia, it never was communist"
Freealll 3 years ago 2
"1.3 billion strong China army"
I didn't know that the army was made up of the entire population of China (including children and the elderly, apparently). Thanks for betraying your totalitarian views to everyone, though.

In recent years, three of the six members of the Kashag, or cabinet, the highest executive branch of the Tibetan government-in-exile, have been close relatives of the Dalai Lama.
lc36163 3 years ago
An older brother served as chairman of the Kashag and as the minister of security.
A sister-in-law served as head of the government-in-exile's planning council and its Department of Health.
A younger sister served as health and education minister and her husband served as head of the government-in-exile's Department of Information and International Relations.
lc36163 3 years ago
The second wife of a brother-in-law serves as the representative of the Tibetan government-in-exile for northern Europe and head of international relations for the government-in-exile. All these positions give the Dalai Lama's family access to millions of dollars collected on behalf of the government-in-exile.

"What is true of Christianity is equally true of Buddhism. The Buddha was amiable and enlightened; on his deathbed he laughed at his disciples for supposing that he was immortal. But the Buddhist priesthood - as it exists, for example, in Tibet - has been obscurantist, tyrannous, and cruel in the highest degree." -- Bertrand Russell

i guess its a lot better to accept colonialism instead.

First the IOC says there is no pollution in Beijing, only mist. Now they do this. Apparently the IOC is not a neutral body. They seem to be in the tank for China
ellenoday 3 years ago
What the IOC is allowing China to do is disgusting. Tibet is one issue, but supporting and facilitating China's maniuplation of it's image on the rest of the world is just plain wrong.
Although the olympic games are crap anyway, making a mockery of them doesn't help - especially if you're in the UK where they're busy pissing away all our money to bring olympic boredom here. We'll complete building it just as we realise no one is interested and are another several billion in national debt.

WTF is youtube doing taking this down. It's obviously NOT copyright infringement.
They claim it's for copyright reasons, I wonder if they can be sued.

More of a shame that google/youtube bows to a corrupt org like the IOC. Especially since this is clearly not copyright infringement in any possible way.
It's quite legal to identify a group by its logo to protest them. There's no trademark dilution or consumer confusion.
GTFO IOC.
