This video proves that the mags can keep up, yes. But I still can't bring myself to trust PMags. The feed lips just look WAY too thin, and it seems to me they could be prone to warping or breaking if dropped.
I know I very well could be wrong, but it's just the way I see them
being that the saw was built as a belt feed weapon using mags on that platform should only be in a last resort or maybe a training purpose. like trying to run a corvette on a go kart race track
Pmags work great in SAWs. GI mags...not so great. A few other mags work well in them, though. You CAN modified USGI mags to work better in them but why?
actually listening to the military bitch is another bad move. Its only an excuse for contractors to get in on a some money by inventing some hi speed low drag accesory and sell it for 2x more.
Same shit with the IAR, we dont need a fucking a 30rd mag fed M4 type carbine, when we have the 249.
same kind of thinking brought about the change from the M14 to the M16, the grunts never bitched about the M14
@USMCM249gunner If we only used mag-fed rifles, we wouldn't need the 249, would we? A couple of my buddies in the services said they would really like if they axed the gun altogether and just issued FA ARs with drums.
an auto rifle would hugely decrease our firepower on the lowest (team) level
The USMC is replacing 1/4 of its SAWs with the IAR, a weapon that will set us back 90 years in LMG development....back to the concept of the BAR. I only hope this change means more M240s dismounted with the rifle squads. We're going up against PKMs in A-stan, and those things are a serious threat that cannot be dealt with auto rifles
Wow... I can agree with Magpul.. the USGI mags are notoriously faulty in a 249, regardless of whether the mag or the weapon is new or old. That is common knowledge in the line units. Seeing this video just reinforces my faith in pmags. great job magpul.
Wrong. You dont need a license. Only the uninformed are the ones who think that. The NFA (National Firearms Act) states you go to a Class 3 dealer, fill out form #4, attach a passport photo, attach 2 fingerprint cards both signed by your local county sheriff or chief of police, send all that into the ATF with a $200 tax stamp and wait 4-8 weeks for the background check to clear. Only dealers need a Class 3 license dumbass, not citizens....
@skogstrollet75 What are you talking about? He has the gun shouldered to his right shoulder how could he reload with his right hand when the mag well is on the left? same with any weapon you do not use your right hand for reloads when you are shouldered to the right.
i dont know how it works for an FFL, but I think you are thinking of a class 3 dealer license. My friends neighbor has one, and he pays like 200 or so a year, but he can have as many class 3 weapons as he wants for sale under that license. however for a personal class 3 license on a weapon you own, its a one time 200 dollar tax stamp.
@80spodcastchannel thats because millitary equipment is secured from the lowest bidder that meet thier qualifications. sadly the the qualifications are very low because there are so much better equipment out there. they're just too expensive.(same happend to dragon skin bodyarmor)
quick question: when you pull back on the charging handle, will it automatically go forward again (like most guns) or do you have to manually push it forward like an m60?
The M249 fires from the open bolt, rather than a closed bolt like an M4/M16. So the bolt is actually locked back automatically after every burst of fire, and fires from the open position after you reload.
no, with all Fabrique Nationale machine guns, you have to push the charging handle back into the forward position, its not attached to the bolt group.
the tank/LAV coax 240 coax has a spring attached to the charging handle so it springs back into the forward pos.
Nice!!! I love my Pmags!!! and finally I'm able to place and order and not be backordered! Also love my MS2 Sling! Keep staying on top of the game magpul! hoorah!
When you put the magazine into the magwell, pull back slightly on the mag. You see, the front of the mag doesn't quite line up with the SAW itself. But if you pull the mag towards you, it will tilt back a bit, aligning the front of the mag with the top of the well.
What kind of problems were they having, I have about 30+ pmags with windows but I also have a few hk maritime mags aswell, I paid quite a bit for them and I don't want something that has defect or weakness.
@Magpul Pwned that n00b huh? Love my pmags, my MOE handgrip my MIAD my MOE trigger guard my CTR both my MBUS my ASAP my MS2 my AFG2 and my RVG. Dam it adds up over the years doesnt it
wow... thats all i have to realy say. normal issue mags jam after about 3-4 rounds, about as meny rounds as saying penut butter. if these mags work that well in a saw then thy would have to be extreamly reliable in a m-16 or m-4. nice work
I've always been taught that you insert the magazine first, then rack the bolt. This ensures you have control of the bolt before there are any rounds loaded preventing a runaway gun. You were lucky or it was a newer SAW so the action wasn't sloppy yet.
Okay the point is this: The M249 is designed with the ability to accept 30-round magazines. However, this method is notoriously unreliable and only recommended as a final option when out of belted ammo. Magpul is testing some of their PMAGs here to show their superiority to USGI (Normal) magazines. Good job guys, I buy a lot of your stuff.
The M249 is primarly a belt fed weapon that has the ability to use 30 round USGI mags in an emergency. As such it does NOT have a bolt holt open when using magazines

Don't AR mags get significantly damaged from the bolt when fed into a SAW? At least that's what I heard happens to the USGI mags.

not always the case if the firearm is too heavy it might be a good idea to keep the left hand on the forearm to support it.

gimme a fuckin break.
everyones bitching about the SAW jamming from mags,
there were times Id go out with 15 mags, cause we had no linked.
in 6-7,000 rds that I did fire, I had less jams than I could count on my left hand.
USMCM249gunner 2 years ago
Everyone is bitching because the M249 SAW has been noted by the military itself to run poorly when using the mag fed option.
My time with a USMC M249 and owning the one above fresh from the FN factory has only confirmed the military view of this.
The PMags provide a greater level of reliability in the M249 as noted by the US Army Training facility at Fort Polk.

you can pull this whole marketing shit all you want.
Ive put my life and trust into that 16lbs of steel, and its served me well in all conditions.
mags, belts....with low lubrication.
2 out of every 4 SAW gunners in my experience have bitched about getting stuck with the weapon and adopted the same bullshit excuses to tell
same bitching helped get rid of alot of good weapons....now that IAR is gonna reduce our ROF dramatically
USMCM249gunner 2 years ago
how did you go about legally owning that?
korn6499 2 years ago
It's Class III tax stamp. You have to pay another $300-400 every year to renew it.
rotorleopard 1 year ago
i dont think you need to renew it every year, its a $200 tax stamp at the time of purchase....
and awesome test, I have never fired USGI mags on a SAW without it jamming or misfeeding on me.
ceverest2 1 year ago
I might have mistaken that with an FFL. I'm not certain.
