  • This guy UNSTOPPABLE

  • i am very lucky to have played this on the SNES. tbh i still play this game on xbox time to time

  • doom ! ! ! best game !

  • love this version, imp`s and hellknight so agressive.

  • Play this game on bsnes to see how god awful it slow it was. Nice music though...

  • LOL!! My brothers would stay up forever playing this game. I loved it too!!

  • Doomguy looks like the devil with the 038 health

  • @LogSNES

the snes port has all 3 episode + all secret levels-bosses-weapons with a total of 22 levels straight from the PC (only flaws is little low frame rate and bad graphics)

the 32x how ever only has 17 levels + no bosses-bfg9000-only 1 secret level-1 hidden level-control is worst than snes and not to mention farting music

    besides

doom on snes is 16-bit at its best

  • @killkenny5000 of course it's better than the 32x version, and yeah my bad, it does have inferno, but you can't save your game at all, and so you have to beat every episode with some of the worst controls ever

  • @LogSNES i disagree with teh control

the 32x and atari jaguar you gottah hold down a button in order to strafe which is alittle hard when your trying to turn

the snes have 2 shoulder buttons on the back of the controller so theirs no need to hold down a button and press the D pad at the same time

even though you still cant circle stafe

the only port here you can circle strafe is (GBA-PSX-saturn-3DO-xbox-xbox 360)

  • @killkenny5000 @killkenny5000 0:52 is a perfect example of why the controls SUCK in the SNES version, in addition to the lack of circle strafing. You stick to walls when you touch them. Very, very annoying, especially when trying to evade a group of pinky demons which tend to try to confine you to a corner.

  • @tightlypackedcoil thats because you can get stuck on wallz in this port

yes i have played this port on a real snes

  • @killkenny5000 Um, yeah. That was my point, no? You stick to walls. That is a bad thing. Choppy framerate, no circle strafing, and sticking to walls = bad gameplay.

  • @tightlypackedcoil its 16-bit...what do you expect

  • @killkenny5000 You're either really young, or English isn't your first language because you seem to be really confused. First of all, you were the one claiming that the controls were "very good" ("superior to 32x") when they really aren't for the reasons I mentioned. Secondly, sticking to walls has nothing to do with the game being "16-bit." It is the fault of the custom engine used in the SNES version. What do I expect? Not much. Some quality control would be nice.

  • @tightlypackedcoil it doesnt have the best control's but i do have to say its slightly better than 32x cuz the the genesis controller doesnt even have shoulder buttons so you have + you need to get the 6-button controller so you can switch weapons and use map and to strafe you need to hold down a button in order to strafe

im not saying the snes version has best controls if you look at my last comment

and adding a a 3D game with texture on snes is a rare thing since star fox came out

  • @LogSNES + the only way to play all episodes in any difficulty is by using game genie

  • this game must be pretty hard to beat

  • @twentyfoursevenmix no its actually the easiest port of ALL...this is the only port that i beat in nightmare

  • Is this on easy?

  • I remember playing this game far too much. Plunked down 60 fucking dollars for it. We all moved into a different house and my parents were doing a lot of painting. That made this game way more bearable.

  • It's a decent version, but there is no save game or password, which basically breaks the game and makes it not worth playing. To go to all that trouble to make a SNES run Doom, and then cripple it with no way of getting back to where you were OR cheats! Unbelievable stupidity. Renders it more of a tech demo than a game.

  • umm im wondering why the music on pc doom was low rate compared to almost every console port with music besides 32x

  • @GamerMGO wut

all the music ports are same speed rate except (3DO-GBA-original xbox/360-PSX/sega saturn)

  • @killkenny5000 no what i mean is all the console ports music sounds better than the classic midi with the exception being 32x

  • @GamerMGO not all

the original xbox port has same music but slower

the gba has screwed up 8-bit music but at least its better than 32x

atari jaguar has ducks its better than 32x and GBA put together but still doesnt sound as good as the PC

so pretty much everyone goes for PSX/saturn music-snes music-3DO music

  • The best part about the port, was the music and the red cartridge in your slot.

  • I was always a Sega Genesis fanboi (always will be!) but this is truly impressive and innovative.

  • I still got my copy. And I'm still impressed by how they pulled this conversion off.

  • what the hell is the matter with some of you???? remember, this game came out in 1993 on the pc. it was pretty much like crysis of the early 90's. you would be lucky if your computer didn't explode when you played it. now imagine most of the content from the pc version on a 16 bit cartridge. if you think about it, it was one of the most incredible things that they did back then

  • @LotsaSpagetti1740 I know I remember getting it on 32X and acting like I had the first super computer. I couldn't believe the detail it brought!

  • @LotsaSpagetti1740

Yeah it was a struggle to get the engine to work on the PCs of 1993, and for it to work on the SNES from 1990 was a very impressive accomplishment. Sacrifices were made but still.

  • @Usul573

Actually SNES couldn't handle Doom on it's own. Their solution to this problem was to put SuperFX2-processor on Doom's game cartridge. So they had graphics accelerator on game cartridge! Only Doom, Super Mario World 2 and Winter Gold used this processor. Starfox and few others used slower SuperFX-processor and most of the games didn't have this graphics accelerator.

Now days my dvr has this game and I can play it with remote control. There's even version for some digital cameras!

  • @kimnice

Yeah I know all about the SuperFX chips and other ones they put in the cartridges, clever idea I guess to help the SNES do more since it was very limited on processing power. Wikipedia has all the games that use those chips listed. A surprising amount used a variety of them, there were quite a few enhancement chips.

Your average digital camera and average cell phone probably have more processing power now, right?

  • You can play Doom with the snes mouse also, which was provided with Mario Paint :)

  • Cmon guys, dont be so anal. The Snes version played exactly the same as the PS1 version as the joypads were almost identical. Have you guys been living in a cave, Doom has got to be the most ported game ever, its been on nearly every console and computer ever. Hell, im surprised there isnt a sega master system version lol...

  • i own it, this is a great port though the controls take a bit of adjusting. not sure if i would have prefered it strafe with left and right and turn the body with L and R.

  • You write in the description that this is a "better port" than the 32x version, but I find that claim debatable. 4:15 of this video, for instance, is a good example of one of the reasons I despise Doom for SNES: you stick to walls. The controls over all are pretty bad, and despite having separate strafe buttons, you cannot circle strafe. The 32x version is flawed for sure, but it is much more playable.

  • It's a good thing Nintendo put in the Super FX chip, otherwise we wouldn't have this on the SNES

  • no offense but your not the greatest at this game lol but then again if I was to play it again I wouldn't be that good either it's been what 12 years? But I love seeing the gameplay of this game again. I really wish I still had this game. My mom threw it away because she didn't like it :(

  • Its dark, who cares! DOOM is a dark game.

  • A better port than the 32X port? I wouldn't say that....this was by far the worst port of doom. Not that the 32X version was that much better..

  • It's crap by Doom port standards, but it's nothing short of impressive that they actually got it running on SNES.

And the music is surprisingly good. Not like the farting in the 32x version.

  • Nintendo gets an "A" for effort, but I don't think it was worth trying to port to a system that couldn't really handle it.

  • At least they didn't drown it in censorship like Wolfenstein

  • This kicks SNES Wolfenstein port's ASS.

  • well its coming in the mail

  • im getting a collectors addition snes which comes with doom and super mario world

  • why is there wierd purpley stuff at the start?

  • amazing! it works very fast on this console!!! faster than Amiga 030! :)

  • MIRACLE!!

  • Worked on PC way more smooth. I got this on my ipod aswell :D its awesome

  • This port turned hte Shotgun zombies into sodding Sniper Zombies, though.

  • this game was great but at the dark parts it was impossible to see i got a fucking seizure from the flashing lights

  • nice to see this game and second you play bad you need some practice

  • best for poor people

  • I have this! And the Wolfenstein port! And the Diablo port for Playstation!

Ball cheese compared to their original versions but I had fun with them!

Amazing feats of their time. Nowadays (sadly) console games are ported ballcheese to the PC.

  • worst port ever i hate it theres like a pause when i hit the button THEN a shoot

  • love this port, great atmosphere forced me to play through it

  • less health = more nose blood

  • This really doesn't show how the SNES handles Doom, because it doesn't handle it this smoothly. The framerate is not even close to this, and has a delay with the controls. Many people mix this up, emulated doom on SNES does NOT run the same as Doom on the SNES.

  • @Snotnarok if it's emulated with BSNES it's much closer to the original (and almost unplayable at fullspeed), this is probably ZSNES.

  • @Ehal256 I'm aware it's emulated. The cart wasn't nearly this fast or responsive. It was a bold move that probably was better then because it was the only way for some to play it. But SNES Doom was probably the worst way to play it in terms of speed/responsiveness. 32x had a lot of missing stuff and horrid music but it ran great, as did the Jaguar version...which had no music but hey. That's what your MP3 pla-....cassette player was for baby!

  • @Snotnarok exactly ;)

  • @Snotnarok It's ironic, given the Saturn port lags to hell, so the console BEFORE it performed better. Go figure.

  • I have to disagree about the "better port than 32X" statement. I agree, this is an amazing feat for the SNES, but in terms of gameplay I would play the 32X version any day for the rest of my life rather than this. The SNES controls are so sluggish that it's almost unplayable.

Now the music is another story......XD

  • impressive technical feat. THe music sounds far better than the PC version. Graphics of course are a bit weaker.

  • The fricking shotgun Zombies became sodding Sniper Zombies in this version

  • those zombies are fast

  • Why was the violence in Wolfenstein for SNES so toned down (sweat instead of blood, rats instead of dogs), while SNES DOOM clearly has splattering blood and gibbed corpses, as shown in this video?

  • 240p??? omg i didnt think that was real lol

  • @SuperCommentDude ? This is not fake, sir.

  • @ShiryuGL its not fake i got this game on console Snes and right now i play it :D

  • @SuperCommentDude

This is obviously the SNES version. No textures on the floor and ceiling, the weapon icon instead of the numbers etc

  • @SuperCommentDude It's not fake, my brother has it on a real SNES.

  • wow, you sure are a noob for thinking this is fake. ever heard of the super fx chip? download a rom or something.

  • @SuperCommentDude snes had the best ever music for doom but the graphics r blured

  • @SuperCommentDude Doom was officially released on SNES as well as on Sega 32X :)

  • @SuperCommentDude it's not facking dumbass... you can see that it's real by the bad graphics with awesome music

  • You miss the health pack 4:35 :p

  • @koffypr actually 4:32 8s

  • ONE OF MY FAVE SNES GAMES EVER. HARD AS NAILS NAILS AND MADE EVEN HARDER BY THE FACT THAT THE ENEMIE SPRITES WILL CONSTANTLY FACE U AS THERE ISNT ANY SIDE OR BACK ANIMATION ;(

  • hardest snes game ever lol, theres no saving, it runs slow and its hard to see whats going on in the dark rooms (had to boost my gamma up to get past them :P)

on-top of that, the controls are damn hard, the triggers strafe if i remember and the dpad gives you very minimal turning control. beating this game was no small feat.

  • il et bien fluide moi il rame sur ma Snes

  • 32bit?

  • I had this and thankfully I hadn't played the PC version in a while so it was quite playable actually. It was actually quite cool at the time.

  • why whn i play this on my ps2 emulator the games get laggy and whn i shoot it crashs?

  • What would you want? Better music or being able to actually play the game? I'll take playing the game.

  • Well back in the '90s, a game with a framerate of about 15fps was considered perfectly playable; it's why Wolf3D, Doom, & Quake had their engines limited to 30fps, as the extra fps was considered unnecessarily wasteful.

Take Star Fox for example, I thought it ran smooth as butter back in the day but it looks quite jerky now. Still an excellent game though :)

  • bringing doom to the snes was almost like bringing doom 3 to the dreamcast

  • the dreamcast had the same capabillities as ps2

  • no, but it could do normal mapping (ps2 couldn't)

  • In many ways, better than the ports to 32X, Jaguar and even Saturn (which was a mess).

  • yeah it looks the most like the pc original even if it has textures only on the walls

  • sound-wise too

  • @sunshinebutmorerain Not at all. The jaguar and 32X port were definitely better. I haven't played the saturn port though so I couldn't make any sort of judgment. It seems you're being blinded by your nintendo fanboyism. This is no doubt the worst port of doom i have ever played.

  • @moreoreos123 Nice picture. It goes well with your nom de plume.

    Butterface.

  • This game pacified me as a child, so happy you can download for 360 now. Brings back so many memories

  • how much was this game back then?

  • As much as any other game. Probably 50 or 60 dollars. I don't remember precisely.

  • Yeah this ran at about 3/4 the frame rate on an actual SNES(I used to own it). Still, it was a solid purchase if you didn't have access to the PC version.

  • how the hell.. how does he strafe and turn with only one d-pad? if this is really is a snes that is

  • Why would I LIE about a video I made !? Seriously, you guys need to relax more, you will live longer.

DOOM on the SNES allows you to strafe with the L & R buttons of the SNES unique designed joypad. Dpad turns, L&R strafe. There is no lookup or look down on doom, that's how you can strafe with only Left and right.

  • heh I wasn't saying you were lying, although after I clicked 'post comment' I realised that's how it looked

anyway I was just wondering how one would do that with just the snes controller.. and LR to strafe, quite interesting. personally I'd set them to shoot ;D

and what I meant by "if this really is a snes that is" is the possibility that you were using an emulator or something, that's all

  • Forgive me for my misunderstanding, you would not believe the crap I have already deleted from this single video.

You could also alternate controls, L&R to turn while the DPad strafes left and right. I use to play like this.

L&R as triggers is current gen stuff, at the time this came out, no one used the shoulder buttons to shoot.

  • And yes, this was recorded on an emulator. I do have a PAL SNES and a PAL DOOM Cart (the sound chip is truly hard to emulate perfectly) but it takes too much trouble to connect the SNES AV to my USB capture card, so this video is also used to demonstrate Super FX chip emulation.

Again, sorry to come off mad at you. =)

  • super6plx simple using L & R Buttons on top :)

loved to play this on my old snes :)

  • @super6plx The L and R buttons on top of the SNES pad buddy, thats how.

  • spuper game

  • It's harder than the PC vsion, on SNES the enemys had only the front side, in other words, never turn back to you.

  • yes the graphics are shitty BUT remember that was 16-bit machine! And music....god its wonderful

  • Gba graphics vs. SNES graphics for doom. Whats better?

  • Plus the music was excellent- even better than Doom would have sounded on most PCs of the era.

  • 3:02 - This song is so fucking kickass!!

  • Name me a console FPS from that era that actually had multiplyaer. >_>

  • Comment removed

  • its like ID software made the world's first first person shooter video game ever made

  • No it was wolfenstein 3D

  • thats not true, maze war from way back in the 70s was technically the first fps

id just made the first fps as we know them today (wolfenstein 3d)

  • Sometimes the screen goes black when I run this game on an emulator. :3

  • LOW DETAIL? Are you serious? This game is great, it shows how the programmer tried hard to port it. Today you have to buy new hardware instead..

  • I'd like to see quake 3 on the n64 and doom 3 on the dreamcast

  • @MrDufff : Yes, and most of the key levels were there, though, unlike this shitty GBA port with no Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind ><

  • @MrDufff

And the Xbox 360 has been going for....what five years?

  • Comment removed

  • that looked good to me mate unless it was running through an emulator looked fuckin good very good

  • The SNES cartridge for this was red! I remember renting a bunch of times ;D

Was this the only M-rated game for SNES?

  • Mortal Combat too :P

  • yeah but the SNES had to censor their port, but play Mortal Kombat 2 for SNES and the blood and fatalities are back.

  • not bad for SNES

  • I remember playing this as a kid a long time ago on the SNES. I was so horrified by the game that I could never beat the first level. I was absolutely petrified when I tried to play it. Now of course I play through it like nothing obviously. But this used to be state of the art graphics and was one of the most horrifying games to ever come out at the time.

  • lol shotgun pwns

  • Erm i do have this game on my SNES; and believe me it's not so smooth... Maybe this one is running on a NTSC SNES?

  • It was officially released for SNES? If so thats really good! I would die to get that when i was a kid!

  • Why is the movement more smooth than my own copy of the snes port of doom.

  • This version is most likely being played on an emulator, which plays games better than real hardware.

  • At least the music was pretty cool and this game came in a red cartridge.

  • This is the first DOOM I ever played in my X-BOX (Not the 360 one). Now I play Miley DOOM and DOOM RickRoller with Skulltag and Doomsday (jDoom).

I added this port's music to my Ultimate DOOM.

  • I commend you. This is somewhat impressive. (though, I always figured it was possible, the SNES does have just enough power for this sort of thing...)

  • I'm fairly sure proper strafing isn't there on the Snes version? - at least strafing in the true sense that you couldn't turn at the same time

Very well done port though apart from this daft ommision

  • I should get a copy of Doom soon, I want some 16 bit shooter action.

  • get the PC version.

  • I am not a big fan of playing games on PC's.

  • Meh this port was alright but nothing can beat the PC version

  • So they made this into a movie...

  • muy bueno el snes

  • whats harder to beat from start to finish. doom or wolfenstein 3d

  • Why did it need the Super FX Chip if Jurassic Park for the SNES did 3D Shooting that looked about the same without the Super FX Chip. So did Doom really use the Super FX Chip?

  • Jurrasic Park was on par with Wolfenstein 3D for SNES - no ceiling, no floor, no stairs going up or down, just walls of equal height and width.

Much simpler graphics -> Can be run on a plain SNES.

  • Ya, but the graphics are pretty simple here as well as no floor and ceiling, the only different thing is stairs and heights. I'm pretty sure the Super FX could have ran it better and it was simply rushed.

  • I played it =))

Cost of 170 DM!! Than it got indext ^^

Well the highest price was about 100-130 DM for a new game...

Now I cant stand it. Gosh. Wat a bad graphic. Kills my eys.

Hey: Dont foret your ennemys are never walking "sideways" in SNES and levels are reduced.

Even the Playstation 1 could not handel it. ONLY the Atari Jagurar made it at taht time.

  • lies

  • wtf? are u high?

  • dude at that time playstation had there own doom and the grapichs looks just as same as atari jaguar (ps atari jaguar sucks)

  • lies.

I got the report on a magazin.

Just watch videos here on u tube to see it yourself <.<

  • your a dumbass

  • From what I've heard, this version has the best music.

  • Obviusly... its SuperNes... SuperNes equals to Great Music (midi music , but still great)

  • the only thing i hate is how inconveniently the health things are placed. you always get them when you don't need them, or right before you need them.

  • best soundtrack ever!!!

this was probably my first game I've ever played like at age 3 or 4. or Maybe It was Street Fighter 2: The Road Warrior on SNES...I can't remember, or it was Mario 2 for NES...FUCK!!!

  • Why does this game creep me out,and yet I'm buying it?

  • because you like creepy games

  • yeah, the snes version of doom is better than the 32x version, but the doom on the atari jaguar is the closest to the pc version, but there is no music during the gameplay

  • are you sure?

jaguar version is like the 32x version, only with some more lighting

  • like you said yourself already: this port is impressive because so complex game runs on the mere snes

    it is pretty glitchy however

  • funnily enough they have no censorship on the wii and wii is their most fammily-oriented console

  • nintendo had a strict and stupid censorship policy back in the nes and snes times

mortal kombat and wolfenstein 3d for snes were censored and they were even some n64 games censored, so gamers who wanted m rated games rather went to sega or sony

nintendo abandoned the censorship policy as late as gamecube, but it was too late for them by then and the gamecube suffered bad support and sales

  • You sure. it seems to me they abandoned censorship late in the N64 era. prime example Conkers bad fur day.

  • yes I said that on the n64 they slowly abandoned that for 3rd party games (conker was NOT published by nintendo)

  • I WANT THIS SO BADLY !!!

  • You are forgetting Mortal Kombat...

  • 2 and 3. The original wasn't M I believe with all the censorship it had.

  • The 32x can have a better port but my respect goes for SNES for managing this without extra expensive acessories.

    SNES FTW!

  • the 32x version had terrible music and less levels

  • Well, I mean, they kind of did.

The SuperFX chip wasn't standard they had to build it and add it into the hardware of the cartridge.

The SNES cannot do this without SuperFX.

  • Still impressive in its own right.
