Best version of one of his best songs. Beethoven and Mozart never made anything better. Great harmonies. I must have listened to parts of this a hundred times since Youtube came about. And hundreds more of the oringinal album. The drum solo is a little different, but I like the liberties he takes with it. A great example of why so many musicians with classical tastes like heavy metal too. Still want to know who the other guitarist is. Doesn't look familiar from his tour pics.

Gah, why couldn't he have done the bass solo the way Neal Smith did it? He sure hammered on the bass drum enough, sounds like shit compared to the original version. Do like the keyboard in this version though
@VamboMarbleye1956 yeah smith is doin real estate now, dunaway's playing in bad bands, and bruce is just playing locally, though there are 3 songs on alice's new upcoming album which were recorded by the original band...well, all except buxton, of course
@ShenkerScorpions That's most indeed Reb Beach. The other is Ryan Roxie . Reb and Ryan Roxie were part of the touring band of '97 when this was filmed as they are also on '97s live release " Fistful of Alice."
This song is just as badass now as when it came out in '71. Not many bands/musicians (Black Sabbath comes to mind) have that kind of staying power. This is probably my most favorite song of his to play with The Ballad of Dwight Fry and Go To Hell being second and third respectively. The only thing that pisses me off is that he's NOT in the Hall of Fame. Complete bullshit since he's one of the most influential performers in the industry.
i want that drummer to play for my band. it is not charlie watts, it is not ringo. that is why i want him....i like what he does. i am am a guitar player, but i want that drummer in my band. thank you... Detroit
@Dillbob1 Actually, the original band is probably going for a small reunion tour (5 or 6 gigs at most), but the current band is still around for a whole 2011 tour
forgot to say the album is 'KILLER'... ALSO INCLUDES the megHITS under my wheels-- be my lover--desperado--u drive me crazy---yeah yeah yeah---dead babies and... killer.Go buy it u little ceasars....and at front a photo of Alice's boa 'Kachina"
I've been hearing this song for 30 years and still every time my hair goes up!!!! I am holding right now the original vinyl in my hands, at the back cover a photo of the original 'the Alice Cooper Band' a band that if had stayed together it would have been NO.1, due to its excellent players but most of all great composers. the last 2 min of the song are all the money. we love u alice....
Alice (Vince) Wanted to start expanding on the theatrics while Michael Bruce and the others wanted to cut the theatrics and stick with music only from what I've heard/read. Rather than fight it out, they parted on fairly good terms, if I remember correctly.
guys vince is brilliant, he can sing plus his vision took him to where he is now.. check out his 1973 interview in finland.. its really good.. cheers to a gr8 man..
i detect a little douchebaggerery going on here! what is the reference to the 80s??? i just dont get it! and as far as rude connotations go. that is your emotinal coloration, not mine.
Gee I wish I could see you face to face.I would give you 20 cents to ring the smith family to tell someone who gives a fuck.I'd say you had better get that musicians ear of yours tuned, preferably by someone with a good ear for Alice Cooper
And if you had any ear at all, you would hear how shitty cooper's voice is and always was. Now i like alice cooper, but it is so obvious that he could never sing. Producers can do wonderful things in the studio.
If you took Vince's voice away It wouldnt be Alice Cooper would it?So who would you replace Vince's voice with? This ear of yours must be a wonderful thing.I've liked AC since "pretties for you" and never realized that AC sounded bad.:0( damn I must have defective ears.I'll forth with consign all my original AC records to the bin.
I can read and on m'I ton Dyslexic.I'm being sarcastic....alas to no availe.Fact is I like Alice Cooper.I like the studio albums.I like the live shows and have seen a couple ,years ago and thats that.Opinions are like arseholes in that everyone has one.Now you just run along there sonny and bother someone else.
Aussie actually. And I'd much rather arguing over manmade global warming or lack thereof than about Vince's voice.I see your a bit or an old fart too? ;0)whats Imao?ciao
lol, his voice still has that sand-paperish growl to it, idk why the fuck u want him to hit a high note anyways. And for 61 he still kicks major fuckin ass, i fuckin idolize this guy.
& hes good lookin to... *sigh*, why couldnt i have been born just a couple decades earlier?!?!
This song on the studio album was the best Alice Cooper of all. Do yourself a favor....put this cd in your car....turn up the speakers and you'll forget about anything else going on in your life.....what a fucking masterpiece of a song.

Nice try 4 the most part by most of the band except that drummer who is at the height of mediocrity. That drum solo was just plain sad.And Old Vinnie boy ought not to try to hit those high notes anymore. He sounds better when he just growls through them. That look on his face, the eyebrows especially, reminds me of Keith Moon trying to sing the falsetto part on Barbara Ann.I know,"he was almost 50 during this performance! So lay off him asshole."I can hear those responses to my comment coming already

I agree that it sounds a little too 80's ish then it should but really it's still well performed
mlmr11 2 years ago
didnt this come out in 1970,71 hows that 80s ish.
DIRTBERG 2 years ago
I'll answer your question even though it has rude connotations and isn't really a question without a question mark.
You are correct. The Alice Cooper studio version of the song was released in 1971.
However , this is not the studio version.
The guitar player plays with an 80's style/flair thus giving this version of the song an 80's flavor.

Now he is to old to give me that vibe of "Hell yah" He sounds simply bad.

He is still in the run after so many years. And in this vid the drumsolo sucked ass compared to the original.
