  • can the ink be devlon mud?

  • @thenewflibjib1z Yes, this video was made back when the inks were just called "Brown Ink" "Red Ink" etc, now they have more fancy names, and Devlin Mud is the new name for Brown Ink.

  • hard core

  • That glue looks alot like...

By the way, I'm 13 and just starting 40k. Loads of people (most people on here included) think almost every wargamer is a 13 or so year old. I can tell you that isn't true... how many videos have you seen including 40k 'Presented' by kids my age? And only about 1 out of 5 people I see in wargaming shops are my age. So, yeah, its not true.

  • Is it possible to just add glue and flock after painting the base brown? This is what I'm thinking of doing just to speed things up.

  • He's doing it the slow and ineffective way. It's a lot better to base before you even spray (if you're doing rocks, sand and the like). It's better to build the model, base, spray, wash, paint/dry brush and then put on a little grass or whatever you want.

  • Is brown ink a wash?

  • Warhammer Has gotten so expensive within the past decade or so!

  • the glue looks like cum.....

  • @CaptainTycho1 man you are soooo funny! i mean ''the glue looks like cum'' ahhh my god! CLASSIC!

  • Lokked better without the grass IMO

  • @montan94 Looked*

  • Whank you very much, good video and easily to understand, just begun my basing after painted all figures and this is the best video explaining the procedure when painted.

  • war hammer is old so im pretty srue that the majority of the fans are older as well.

  • why dont you dip the base into a tub of flock or sand then tap it on the rim so you dont waste any? pouring it over the base seems a bit...

  • I use super glue instead of white glue.

  • Hey can you make a video on painting an obliterator

  • i thuoght flock was like mushy sand that looks like the modelling grass from gw??

  • It's stupid but this glue looks like... you know.

  • The flock completely ruined a good base

  • The grass must be pretty tough to survive in that soil....

  • What's the name of the music?

  • What's the music?

  • the pva glue looked like jizz lol

  • GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • dont put the ink on the base until the glue is dry or most of the time, all the sand will start coming off. and your base will be mushy

  • should i paint before or after i put the modle together :/

  • @cowboyman64 it depends what kind message me and ill give you answers

  • 'Add the sand by sprinkling it over the base' - pours half the packet....

  • I could not be botherd to do that to all my figures I just put some stones on the base and then spray it when i do my undercoat = black stones then I add some grass it makes it look sik.

  • These tutorials are awesome. They are useful for much more than just Warhammer!

  • Can you still get Brown Ink?

  • @trooper80812 The equivalent to Brown ink now is Devlin mud

  • I dont want to say what that glue looked like 0.0

  • nice!

  • can you use elmers white glue to glue the sand down?

  • @gamegodman561 elmers white glue can become visible easily if you undercoat it wrong or mess up the glossing layer on the top. it looks ok if small bits are on sand as it can create a snowy effect for cheap, or use white sand and fake snoe. some people even use polystirine 0.o

  • @gamegodman561 Yeah, White Glue and PVA Glue work fine for this. Tried it.

  • ewww that pva glue looks like snot

  • Woooah thats a hell of a lot of glue, one coat of watered down PVA glue then scrape the model's base through a tray of sand, tap off the excess and its done.

For my bases I cover the base in Goblin Green, then watered down pvs glue and scrape the models base through a tray of flock, works perfect.

  • With my bases i do pretty much the same but with black to create a city/roads effect

  • were the heck do you get brown ink???!!!

  • @Alexanderisawsome they dont make ink anymore just use washes they are the same thing rly just washes arnt as thick and in my opinion are better :)

  • @Alexanderisawsome games workshop?

  • @henners1991 kids get bored relatively quickly? I've been playing for 5 years and I'm a kid. ever since i was allowed to play at the age of 7 I got straight into it!

  • Will paint work in place of the brown ink (not sure what he is talking about by brown ink)?

  • @SgtShinobi I think he is referring to Devlan Mud wash. I might be wrong.

  • so wtf?! are im a fantanic?!

  • whats the music!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:00 looks like sperm

  • @ChriisoX i was thinking tht

  • @Olliek94 Hahaha xD

  • At the end, when you add the flock grass, if you tap out the excess while the model is upside down you get the grass to stand up and achieve a better looking effect.

  • I found mixing normal wood glue (i'm gessing thats the white you are using) and water and used that to lock the sand in place to work better then to use Expensive washes/Inks

  • Its sooooo! serious!! xD

  • most people that play war games are adults because the hobby is so friggin expensive. Also, it takes a lot of time and patience and i know a lot of people who just wouldn't take the time to make the miniatures look nice. I mean I am 15 but i usually add 200-500 points to my army monthly and it is working out well.

  • which colours did he use? i couldn't hear it too well

  • if you are going to be doing like a moon war couldnt you just use some more pva to lock in the sand but keep it grey?

  • i had no PVA one time so i used flour and water and it works pretty well

  • @JNSslipknot1017 Any bottle of elmers glue all or elmers wood glue also works, but dont use school glue, it is too thin.

  • what i do is instead of pouring sand on it and wasting sand, i dunk the base into the container, makes it alot easier :)

  • I say do the bases before you put the minis on.. ><

  • @MrTazay Not if they're those Tyranids which need to be slotted into the base for support :P

  • @Robscrob1 >.> True :P Though I did manage to do that a few days go. just made sure to scrape the slot out after I was done ><

  • you don't sprinkle you dip the hole model in the citadel sand thats what games workshop told me to do

  • The problem with basing is when the models don't match the terrain

  • @teetertoter3 see thats what my problem is, i have dark green csm, but i really want to go desert, but i get that feeling it will clash too much end up looking hideous.

  • @SteveTheVahn Yeah, black base on green looks better than snow base on green

  • Article?

  • Stupid question: why prime the base (not only the edges) before the sand is glued on? Seems like a waste of time to me... it's covered with sand anyways... Oo Am I missing something?

  • lols the music is so hardcore!

  • the first 15 seconds was exactly what went through my head when i finished painting my genestealers and gaunts

  • do you think it would work fine to just sprinkle on the sand and flock, like in your battle ruins video?

  • i think it was better without the dry brushing

  • What does ''drybrush'' mean?

  • @Undeadguy95 when you load your brush with paint you wipe off most of the paint and then you paint the base or model. That's what drybrushing is

  • DO you have to ink it? :S

  • After i put the sand on and paint it black, i drybrush it scorched brown, then mix graveyard earth with bleached bone and then drybrush the base with that colour. It looks good after it.

  • why do you need to prime it at the beginning?

  • What type of glue should i use?

Also is that just ordinary ink?

  • @DementedDecoy PVA glue, what you'd usually use for paper or cardboard. Dilute it a bit, so it can be spread with a brush.

  • is there any other way to make miniatures, except for fimo..or clay ??....any easier way?

  • @JONIMASAKIS why dont you just buy minis and make molds. greenstuff is good for sculpting ande molding.

  • I base my models right before I spray the first undercoat with chaos black.

    Put model together,

    glue,

    sand,

    then choas black spray,

Then all you need to do is drybrush the bass scortched brown and bingo, much less time and a much nicer job

  • what is Brown Ink? is that a colour or something else? can I use diluted scorched brown to reach the same effect?

    thx in a.

  • @fur6z gw delvan mud works too

  • they should of called it:

    Warhammer Bases: the Base-ics

  • if this is meant to be THE BASICS then why are you adding 2 different terrains and drybrushing 4 different colours? ?? still a good vid but I think u shud call it ADVANCED! XD

  • @Oliver200101 Nah, that's very basic, advanced would be mounting the model on top of a pile of skulls with a tree in it or something.

  • I see that the glue you use is very thick and transparent, can you please tell me what kind of glue that is? thanks a lot for sharing

  • @ricepaperbutterfly looks like ordinary PVA glue

  • Don't sprinkle just dip it into a container of it and the glue will catch onto it

  • i base before i paint meaning i dont get sand/rocks n shizz all over a model i spent a long time painting

  • @TheStockzzz its not shizz it looks like a cool base for a model

  • and this vid is where i first heard of warhammer 40k X) like 3 years ago

  • haha awesome! :D

  • Hey guys whats the grassy stuff called again? I didnt catch what he said... Good video btw

  • modeling flock

  • There are many different varieties, the type he was using is called Static Grass at most modelling stores.

  • flock.

  • Song name?

  • i just put pva on the modle befor i spray it then dry brush the sand any couler i want paint the modle and add some burnt or scorched grass ^^

  • i wish you could do this with snow.

may you please mini wargaming show us how to make a snow looking terrain

  • Im no expert, but for snow, I use baking soda

  • haha smart :D

  • wat is flock

  • flock is fake grass and snow. It is small plastic rods and when applied it creates the effect of grass and snow. Hope this helped.

  • For everyone asking what the song is, its silence by larmes. [could be the other way round actually]

  • Could i do that with snow flock?

  • yep

  • yep

  • yep

  • @chiko909 i think miniwargaming actually has a snow basing tutorial

  • @chiko909 its actually the easiest

just pain it white and while it dries put on some vanilla suger and maybe some rocks, do NOT use flour as bugs will get attracted to it

  • @chiko909 yes

  • @chiko909 only what you will need to do is paint the base white and not brown :)

  • where can i get that kind of flock?

i have some other type that i think looks weird..

  • most people that paint, collect and play games with miniatures ARE in fact adults

  • indeed i think im the only kid in my school that knows about wh40k tabletop

  • i feel the same way

  • ugh that must be so annoying. I live in a small town in the south of SPAIN and im still not the only kid in my school who doesnt know about W40K. Im not even the only one in my CLASS

  • im not, but yep

  • lol either am i, im 12 XD

  • im 14

  • @NuggetsOfRivendell I'd say only about half the people are adults because a lot of kids and teens do aswell.

  • @Hound419 LOL like me :D

  • @NuggetsOfRivendell Indeed, kids get bored of wargaming relatively quickly.

  • @Henners1991 Ironically, I am a kid :P

  • @NuggetsOfRivendell wtf, NO like 99% of people who play are below 18

  • @Olliek94 actually I don't think so, because the miniatures are extremely expensive so in order to colecte and/or play this game you'll need rich parents or a job!

And because not all kids have rich parents I think it will be more adults (with jobs) that are playing/colecting this game...

  • @Toxicrafa

i dont have a job and buy almost all of mine and i have about 3000pts!!!

  • @bannanaboy8 so what?!

  • @Olliek94 99% of wargamers are under 18??? think ur a bit wrong there mate. what a gayboy. check all the vids on youtube the majority are older men. and when it is kids on videos the painting etc is ALWAYS shit. fact

  • @alex1988764 That isn't true actually not all of kids painting is shit. Actually me and my friends are quite good painters, so that is what i would call a fact.

  • @alex1988764 If you think kids who paint are shit, you think they aint trying their best? they might of just started, but it will be a hell of alot better than yours i bet! so don't diss kids, until you can paint better than them.

  • @WarHammer40kWorld understand that mate but the fact is the ORIGINAL statment was wrong. 99% of WG ain't under 18. And just for the record mate.......my painting skills are quite high. go crawl back into your box room at your mum's house and have a wank.....dweeb.

  • @alex1988764 Im a kid and i think i do quite good painting xD

  • @alex1988764 well im 14 and i paint pretty well so in your own opinion do i count as a kid or a teenager

  • @alex1988764 nah man im under 18 and i think i can paint pretty decently

  • @alex1988764 i agree that ollie is wrong but i think my painting is rather good for my age (13) please check out my vids and see

  • @alex1988764 That's not always true. I'm 16, and spend 4 to 6 hours on each minifig, and i'd say that mine turn out better than at least 60% of the 30+ year olds who play Warhammer here locally. I would say that about 50% of Warhammer players are over the age of 18 though.

  • @alex1988764 Writing like a 6 year old is not the best way to prove an otherwise valid point.

  • @alex1988764 you havnt seen my friends paint job

  • @alex1988764 yes so anyone under 18 paints like shit? thats just fucking stupid, i agree that lots of adults play but come on why in the world would a person's age affect how they paint? I've seen lots of people who have amazingly painted miniatures and are kids... Obviously a person who has been painting for years is going to be better than someboddy who just started, but you gotta give people credit for trying and alot of the time the painting isn't that bad

  • @Olliek94 Uhh, I've been gaming snice I was 12. After four years a lot of my friends and I were doing some pretty amazing stuff. Admittedly now at 24 with 12 years of practice it's even better, but I would hesitate to say young people always do "shit." Perhaps you should leave your mom's apartment and go out and meet some people you were not friends with in high school.

  • @Shaedified Are you sure you're still not 12? I like how you randomly assume someone who makes the point that there are a lot more people at an older age who model because they have the money to do it. Not only is you're point invalid about the ages but literally everyone I know at my local hobby store sucked at painting when they were younger/started. I'm also quite sure you and you're friends were the coolest guys in school modelling/painting from gr.7-12 (probably hit up all the parites).

  • @alex1988764 I am 13 and i gotta say i cant paint like a pro if i wanted to.

  • @alex1988764

Im 16 and i fucking agree with you XDXDXD.PEACE

  • @NuggetsOfRivendell im a kid :P 14...

  • @jored7 So am I, but someone was bagging the guy that made this video for being an adult and collecting and painting miniatures.

  • @NuggetsOfRivendell ooh... yeah mostly adults... I do mostly painting and stuff... guys at the stores scare me O_O... They ususally super intense... still fun tho :)

  • Beautifull!!!

  • I think it looked better before the flock.

  • Looked waaay better without the flock.

  • clearly older then your bitchass

  • You sure about that? :V

  • epic music

  • Just what I was thinking.

  • i want 2 know the song world be great 4 playing games to

  • u shod have done something faster i just do scoreched browns then vomit brown and add grass

  • he put cum on the base

  • ha lol

  • "add the sand by sprinkling it over the base."......as he dumps like half a bucket on the thing ^__^

i love u mini war gaming

  • sorry, i'm very new to 40k and warhammer in general - what is drybrushing? =S

  • ok it is basically just brushing with no water on the brush and once you are finished with one colour you just wipe it off with a paper towel or you can clean it and use another brush
