Yeah. As archers go Legolas is pretty fail. Horray for giant epic archer stances from strange angles, and now we are going to yank back the bow string and let it go with a giant motion of the hand! Looks good on screen, but thats not how that shit works. Archery is not about getting points for style.
@MrPatrickAdair Not really. Couple of things wrong with your theory. First, the wood in the bows he uses aren't even real. They have all kinds of unique, mythical properties that could make it more powerful or flexible. Second, he's more than human, and Tolkien elves are able to shoot and move like they do in the films. It's a FANTASY setting. It SHOULDN'T be realistic. Go watch a Ridley Scott film if you want a more realistic setting.
@MrPatrickAdair It's entirely possible to shoot like that, in the Turkish civilization they used a technique called speed shooting, from horse back.....go look up the videos of how accurate they are even at fast reload times. The back hand grip he used in this video is a REAL grip. It all depends on how you feel comfortable shooting, I use a split grip, some use a 3 below grip. The dexterity used to load the bow at great speed would be difficult for a bow with high draw weights.
@Antimidation The mongolian archers also had ways to quickly nock another arrow with incredible speed, ways that didn't involve whacking the arrow onto the bow, got to wonder what would happen were something to go wrong in that motion or if the arrow were to break, it just seems impractical. As for the grip, I didn't mention anything about the grip, grips fine. What I was stating is that Legolas is not a good example of an archer in my opinion; when he releases the arrow he snaps back his hand
@stoozn2it are you retarded? you bring the arrow back to your anchor point, and then you release the string/arrow, you dont jerk your hand like a moron at the last second before release, this greatly increases the archers paradox and can seriously diminish ones accuracy I take nothing away from the coolness of the "trick" . I do watch the pro's, particularly when I'm taking lessons from them, moron.
I gave this one a "like" for 2 reasons: 1) It's a neat archery trick-- shooting with an inverted hand. Adds speed. 2) When he missed, he just shrugged it off, no big deal. Awesome. :D
@OcarinaInMyPants Oh my... i laughed soooo hard whehn i read that comment, that am actually gonna write "LoL" here! The dude is a geek because of the postrson the walls, but i had to read that comment and watch the video again t realize that. man, that is the youtube comment of the month for me :) Gonna share it. Thanx Ocarina ;)
you know all the comments are funny (and kinda true) but you do have to admit thats pretty dang fast to nock an arrow. As far as whether youd actually be able to shoot accurately is another story. it looked like his hand was kinda twisted upside down lol
Besides - you should understand clearly, what way of shooting and for what to you it is necessary. If the opponent nearby the dagger-technique is more effective than the usual. From 10 yards it is difficult to miss. And if at you group in one hundred marksmen, all of you equally cover the area.
Hello! That is interesting way to pull the string. Fast technique (!) but i am wondering how much is this style effecting to accuracy. How do you feel if you compared this to normal split finger technique? Greetings!
Good work

@MrPatrickAdair What do you mean, snaps his hand back? As in a back tension release. That is the proper way to release an arrow. Watch the pros.
