There is a door interlock built in to prevent the elevator to move unless the door is closed. They bypassed it to make the video.

How come the elevator can move while the shaft door is still open? I thought that it had to be closed before the elevator could move.

That's probably only for hospitals or corporation buildings. If it's for a home, the homeowner can probably choose what they want to do. Either that, or it was disabled for the camera to show the elevator moving.

I was just getting ready to say that.  A little child could be crushed or - if on the upper floors with the door open, fall down the shaft. Maybe that is just for demo purposes.
