Yia sou Glykeria you are always in our heart in Greece -Israel and around the world.!
To: Turkish Gioverment; You made a HISTORICAL MISTAKE to go against Greece & Israel! THIS COULD BE THE END OF TURKEY AS WE KNOW!
Ask The Persians what happened to them at th Thermopulai ask Nazis what happenned to Crete! Turkey is surrunded by "friends" Greece -Armenia-Serbia-Kurdistan-& Israel the last "friend:
you will find that the peoples under Ottoman hegemony had similar habits (music, food, etc) through osmosis due to being with each other. They shared a narrative that the non-occupied European cultures have not experienced in their national psyches.
There were tens of thousands of Greek Jews (more than 85% horrifically perished in the Nazi deathcamps) and the majority of the survivors migrated to Palestine; they brought with them their habits.
We have very similar cultures, and therefore the music accordingly. All the music of the Mediterranean is very similar .. We all want peace but not always possible, have a genuine desire on both sides
yes, Persian, Indian and Greek music is the most ancient. Jewish music is ancient too, but was mostly vocal because of last distraction of Great Temple by Romans.
Turkish music derived a lot from Gypsy, Balkan, Greek, music of Turk tribes (yes, from central Asia) and Persia. Ottoman Empire was quite long in existence, but even "makam" (taksim) is much older originating in Persia and India. Instruments are too, only "saz" (or baglamah and "divan") are original turkish instrument.
The main roots of your music lies in the Ottoman music. You speak of the Byzantine Emp. and the influences of other music but forget the continental size of the Ottoman Emp. and this more than 700 years. The most instruments what you nation you use today is mostly of turkish asian origin. Get in touch with a greek music prof who will explain you thoroughly the influences of Ottoman music in yours. Even your dances and instruments still use turkish names.
