This was a good scene to delete. I think perhaps the writers were trying to show us that Libby tries to fix things like Jack does, but has this illusion of a bed side manner when she really sees people as puzzles. Sayid just lost Shannon. Libby's attempt to mollify that is rather revealing, but empty. Putting Libby up against Sayid is like putting a church mouse up against a jaguar. The scene reads hokey and fake. Good move on the producers to not include this in the final episode cut.
