“The White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy states that conventional medicine is not addressing chronic illness and diseases (WHCCAM 2002). The focus has been on interventions and not wellness and health promotions that have been left to the individual. The Commission says the focus should be on physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional aspects of disease prevention, which are not being adequately addressed by orthodox Western Medicine.”
I think where this fails for me is the lack of discussion of breath. With the statistics for Qi-Gong therapy, meditation, and Yoga (specific for stroke patients) having far more significant levels of improvement, why are stroke patients doing this. Moving meditation is much more therapeutic than squats and walking on stairs. Don't get me wrong after my mild heart attack and three days in the hospital I got nothing for rehabilitation. It is better than nothing. However
great video. Love the music choices. I am a stroke survivor and these things are possible with a LOT of work. Nice thing about the treadmill in the hospital therapy dept had the ability of starting really slow. I think I started at .03. most home treadmills only slow down to .05 Stair climbing is doable with rails but still not safe without. Thanks for sharing
Yes some one that has had a Stroke can walk on a treadmill. I have clients do this every day at work. If the Storke is not so bad the rower is also a good bit of kit to use.
I am a Personal Trainer that has worked with post Stroke clients for years.
My cousin suffered a mild stroke and has retained full motor strength for all extremities. However he is weaker on one side, are there any exercises to be done at home without use of gym equipment to strengthen his weaker arm?
good vid. I had a stroke and these were the exact exercises I did with my physio so it's good to be reminded of them. However, each stroke is different as they said in hospital, like snowflakes. They elso said use it or loose it which I think is fundimental to physiology.
@leebodger I do therapy also I had a major stroke 1 April 2011. I am now walking some and have regained much of the use of my left hand. i made a survivor blog its at shottothedome with the three w's in the front @dinstudio and the dot and com
It is a great upload thank you for sharing. It is just that it is far more difficult when you have a person who has suffered a stroke, It needs alot of work for the patient to reach some of these points. Thank you again. And hope you can upload more of these educational videos. Very helpful!

Very informative video.
Metriks' FCE software allows the healthcare professional to objectively quantify and report on a person's functional abilities.

You're kidding, right? A trainer has NO idea how to work with a stroke survivor....almost no one who has had a stroke could do these things.
