I didn't use any software, except a recycled Commodore for the 3D models. It was all done in an online suite with a Questech Charisma, which received and mapped on to the models in real time. The layers were recorded one at a time, which means that I had to work out each piece's moves right to the end of the game, and lay them down before going on to the next piece. Pretty crazy I know, but it was done 10 years ago, and those were the tools that were made available to me at the time.
For my sins I'm the mathematician and engineer who devised CLEO and a lot of the original Charisma - ant wrote the whole of the program that ran on the Commodore Amiga.
nice idea!
