@TheGunner1324 It sounds like you have a pay as you go which is bad you should get a fixed rate and I heard if you have that plan it can be hell on the bill.
@mitosho Yeah but if you use their server it uses you internet also and it is like going to a website if you have pay as you go internet you will drive up your bill.
Guys it can't take over ps3 or xbox 360 its because the games will be released in 2013 what do I mean? the games that you like to rent will be gone and new games will take over in onlive so they don't have a slow crappy server. Not like ps3 or xbox360 you get to keep the games.
i have a regular computer nothing special but my onlive is so bad the quality is terrible and the reaction time is really slow but my connection bar is at the lowest it can be,
if my connection gets better will the quality and react time get better?
Why pay for a service where you can't physically own the product and have no guarantee whether the company can decide to halt it's service anytime it wants ?
What if in any legal way the company starts to have problems with you or big corporations like sony/microsoft ?
What if it goes bankrupt or has problems with it's service and can't deliver you constant 100% uninterrupted service ?
These are pretty realistic things and hoppen quite often.
Tried it in and i have to say the concept it great, fps is good graphics decent on a old shitty computer that couldn't play the games. The only issue for me is that latency is a bit high but that is understandable seeing how the servers are located in the USA and i live in Europe. This has great potential I just hope they don't fuck it up and bring more games to the system.
i hate how todays games and systems make you pay month to month payments to play games. remember when sega came out and you would go to the store and pay once and never have to pay another cent for that game and YOU COULD PLAY IT FOREVER BECAUSE YOU BOUGHT IT.
I won't pay for a service that won't give me the owner rights for a game.
I won't either pay for a service which will consume alot of internet connection bandwidth while playing for a couple of hours everyday, thus saturating my monthly download limit.
I will never pay for a service that can't hide away from lag problems due to the physical distance separating my house from Onlive's servers. I can't imagine the lag induced when i press a key or move my mouse, it will be terrible for FPS's

@BudzMcgr33n Its not a fail, it provides a MUCH cheaper alternative to console or PC gaming. It costs 100$ for the little box to play it on your TV. Its not laggy if you have 5mbs connection which is pretty standard. It doesn't look like you tube its capable of 720p video quality.
@LightJehuety You have to buy games at full price and there's no guarantee Onlive will be around long enough to get your money's worth out of them. And if you look at the resolution options for this youtube video you will see it has 720p as an option, so yeah it's basically youtube quality. And it is laggy I don't care what you say.
@BudzMcgr33n I beg to differ, 3mb down and ur fine in terms of lag, as for resoluition you can get 1080p, the uploader just didnt do it for the video, Cloud computing is the future, why have the hardware on ur end when it could be the companies responsibility to upgrade, support, and improve.
people need to stop bitching about how good onlive is or will be, the micro console and controller combo is $99 and the service is free so you cant expect a fenominal console out of it.
@christianap99 it uses servers with high specs to play the games on, then it streams it over to you, allowing you to play really high spec games on crappy spec computers (just need a decent internet). Buy the games (or rent them, theres also a free 30min trial of the full game) and with a playpass (aka buy) the game is attached to your account, meaning whereever you are you can play the game when you sign into onlive.

Graphics aren't too the max but they aren't terrible there above average in fact. It provides a cheap easy to use service and it plays games better then alot of PC's. Another things is most games are extremely cheap so that kind of compensates not being able to access your games if you quit your onlive service.
@LightJehuety Tekken 6 is considered to be one of the worst games with online connections. Modern Warfare 2 on PC is also said to be one of the worst games with online connections. BUT, I have both games and get near perfect connection everytime. It's just that gamestreaming isn't ready to happen yet. And plus, advertising for OnLive isn't strong, so it won't get popular easily.
Demo: 3 Day PlayPass: 5 Day PlayPass: Full PlayPass: Yes $5.99 $8.99 $29.99 Cut to the point not only do you pay 15$ for this but you're also paying to play the game! If you don't pay the 15$ service PER month then you're cut from your games. Not only do you not get fix your pc settings to your enjoyment if you have a bad bandwidth such as Australia(bandwidth caps) then you won't get the full enjoyment out of onlive. I rather buy a digital copy such from steam or gfwl or own the game to keep.
@uromastix87 That makes no since for the different system thing. And no there aren't any more monthly fees. They now mostly get income from people buying the games.
PC hardware manufactures and consoles have nothing to worry about. Onlive is an excellent idea but i'm afraid it might fail. There are so many reasons why on live will not replace PC/Console gaming.
besides, nvidia, and amd are going to be pissed off, this is a crowbar in the face.
Not to mention intel, microsoft, sony and nintendo.
The only ones that wil be happy with this are those motherfuckers of ubisoft, that threat you like a criminal every time you buy a game. Theres no more piracy with this.
I hope this thing fails, this will change everything, and now, you wont need a hardware, you will need a better conection and a paid account...that means more money out of your pocket
@sodalmen Wtf? Why are you defending big companies that basically don't give a fuck about you? This is Onlive is good in every way for the consumer, it gives the consumer a cheaper alternative and creats more competition instead of only being able to chose between the big 3 you now have onlive to mix things up.
In the end, this thing its going to be freaking expensive, you pay, to play. This thing will never beat consoles, you go to a store, you buy a game, and ist totally yours, you can beat it as many times you want, but with this, you need to pay a bill, at the end of the year, tis going to be very fucking expensive. Not to mention that not everyone int te world has a good internet conection.
I wonder about long-term maintenance, if you buy a game, do you still have to pay an access fee? I can't imagine Onlive would like to host a game indefinitely for just a single purchase.
You do NOT download the games. The game stay on their server. It's called 'cloudgaming'. I quote their site: Games run over the Internet from state-of-the-art OnLive game data centers. All the games are downgraded (graphics, sounds, effects) to reduce the bandwith/transfert. Internet is not fast enough today to handle that system. It will but not today (2015). I heard the games are going to be around 15 bucks. That's the price of a used game (in UK). Just watch gametrailer/gamespot for more inf
At first I thought that you just had to pay for the onlive service... that would have been a great deal. But if you have to pay a monthly service AND pay for games you don't actually own, it seems like a pretty bad deal.
This seems pretty awsome... But I'm still confused how the heck the best games can work on the worst computers (or just really bad ones)... (yes i know its playing on their screen but it shows up on you're computer but its so cool and confusing how they do it)
-games sold at full fat price while you can find them for cheaper prices in retail
-you don't actually own the games
-you must pay monthly subscription
-no modding
-games can be discontinued(3 years they say? then its supposed to be over!)
the advantages and features* are over shadowed by monstrously bad bargain
*not needing a pc (while pc gaming has become a lot cheaper than it was), watch other gamers live, no lag or slow down, no need to worry about drivers etc.
@paddi241 I Think the opposite. Consoles as they are have been very powerful for the money with the only catch that it's only a console. There are plenty of lower end PC users who want more frames and better graphics, who also already have a fast connection, they will use this service.
I'll keep it short: this does away with everything unique about PC Gaming. No more going into the config files to slightly tweak settings. No more forcing AA on games that technically don't support AA (all Unreal Engine 3 games). And most important, no more community mods, which are the lifeline of almost all PC games after about 2 years.
@SunStridar However it does let some people with bad computers use newer games. But of course everyone wants it to go away because it cant have mods yet.
@Sup3rBirdy I know it's a live stream, moron, why would I choose a shitty, laggy, blurry 1280x720 @ 10-20 FPS video stream, when I can play my games on my 200 hz 3D monitor, at 200 fps, in 3840x2400 16:10 crystal clear awesomeness?
This OnLive shit is for poor casual gamers that like to play solitaire and casual games and shit...
Try to play any other REAL game on this and it will look, move and lag like shit, now shut the fuck up and stop replying because i can keep bashing you forever.
@k001k1dzm4n14 Also, i checked your age, and it says you are 23, but then i checked "schools" and it says redmond elemental, and hobbies: pking, which means you play shitscape, which means you have a shit PC, so stop replying in this thread and get off the internet.
I would like to see this service become a success. The market is plagued by piracy (especially PC), if this proved to be a success it could mean more profits for the developers = better games = more people buying the game and throwing out the idea that 'free is better.' Consoles have ruled for over 30 years, it's time to switch to something new, something that can be potentially better for gaming companies and customers, it's time to break the chains from companies controlling console prices.
If this project proved to be a success, Gaming Consoles and Games will drop prices... and the best thing is THERE WILL BE NO MORE 360 and PS3 "My console is better.." FANBOYS!!!
@Alieaser This is where i have to prove you wrong and explain how this service works. Onlive will NOT be able to play Xbox 360 and PS3 Exclusives. Instead it is creating contracts with game developers that do not share contracts with the console companies. The reason for this is that it would be ILLEGAL for Onlive to release exclusives from the systems as sony/microsoft will obviously decline a contract as it would decrease sales. So no there will still be fanboys sorry.
@Burrito300x .. guess i never thought of the exclusives... i kind of get it now... it's like streaming a game.. like a video stream or whatnot...
... i just got insane on the thought of having to play online without any FANBOY Bitching.... well sorry if I offended you or something... i just hate fanboys...
i doubt people wanna pay again for all their games....and its in the middle of all the consoles. I dont think its gonna do well right at the moment maybe when the ps4 comes out it do better.
So basically this is like if Gamefly made a console you can have to directly download the games instead of waiting for it in the mail? Sounds like something I do already with Netflix through my Ps3 which is awesome. I'm seeing another threat to Microsoft and Sony here...
There's no download required, and basically the system requirements are to have an internet connection.
It streams the game to your screen, all the processing is done on a remote server. So no more building a $1000 gaming computer to play the latest games, a $200 computer will play them just as well. I'm really hoping this goes well, because if it does, it's going to be the future of gaming. It pretty much makes consoles pointless.
@Herzy3 Well, I wouldn't neccessarily say consoles would be pointless. I mean, I still use my Ps3 as a storage for movies, music, pictures which I'm planning on installing a 400GB Hard drive. Plus, the way I get my movies is off a website the XMB browser bypasses so I wouldn't have to pay for them! :D
@Gibix No, this is way better. Cloud gaming. You don't have to download anything but the OnLive app, the game is streamed to you from their high end rigs.
@Gibix Yea a threat that requires a fast internet connection for the games to run smoothly since thats all they run on. I see another threat were onlive doesnt have motion controllers :)
@Gibix No, its a "Streaming service" that allows you to play the games without install by rendering the games in their datacenters and streaming a video back down to your PC
@Gibix That description sounds more like GameTap, where the game downloads and installs. With OnLive, the game isn't run on your system, you just get to play it. It's like having access to the most powerful gaming rig, but it's many miles away from where you're streaming it to.
@Gibix no the game does not download on to your PC / Mac / Microconsole. It is played on a server and all you download is streaming video of that server's screen. All games are already installed on the servers.
@Gibix lol no shit im just sayin tht being able to download games directly to a ps3 isn't anything special and lol isn't a threat to xbox 360 in anyway since 360 had it first lol
@zombiesrule77 I was talking about Netflix, not games. Derp. And why does it matter if it had it first? This isn't even relevant to what I was talking about in the first place.
@Gibix ..... it doesnt matter which had it first but u said eariler in ur comment tht ps3 can download games so thts a threat to the 360 but its not coz they had it before 360 so u dont even kno wat ur talkin about
@Gibix ..... how cud u not be u said ps3 can download directly to the console and u said it cud be a threat to 360 i said the 360 cud already do this before the ps3 so if ur not talkin about downloadin games directly to consoles then u dont even kno wtf ur talkin about
@zombiesrule77 That wasn't a comeback you idiot, look up the word 'Metaphor'. Maybe you'll finally understand what I was saying, quit trying to argue with me.
yaaaaa u end up spending the same money on ps3 as this because think about it 15 dollars times 12 is 180 dollars ur gonna be doing this for at least 2 years im guessing so 360 dollars for 2 years u end up paying same price (a little more) BUT this is pretty much future proof... probly lol. and also this is supposed to be multi platform so u can play on ur pc too.... all depends on wat u like more :/
@qewbert There are supposed to be package deals for long-term subscriptions. Plus, to buy a new game for a Playstation 3 costs $60. PC games don't cost as much as console games, and I severely doubt buying them through the OnLive service will be as expensive either. Plus, you will be able to rent games through the service as well, and play demos of the games before you buy it. You'll probably end up saving money this way.
@cssSe7encss yes that is the point, it lets u play on the shitiest computer if u dont want to buy a gaming pc u can probly play this on the average family computer like it was a gaming computer plus its an all in one game place like steam.... it makes ppl think there gonna save money by doing this instead of buying a gaming pc although u end up paying the same after 2 or 3 years if not close to
Would be great if the publishers decided to release games on Onlive only...that's PC gaming piracy from extremely high level to zero, but a lot of people would hate it (since you have to be a subscriber in order to play, otherwise you can't). We would get a lot more games and a lot better quality that way since developers would be actually profiting
Microsoft to gay to make something this cool all you bill gates fans go kill yourself an buy a ps3 before its to late GOD OF WAR 3 might sell out if you dont hurry Onlive is looking cool its going to send the xboxwhatever runing for the hills an from the looks it might be better than the ps3
@Goku1337 yeah yeah microsoft nvr could come out with something thats this cool...wait there something a couple of months ago...o rite Games on Demand...the exact same thing this is but for XBOX o and ur making it sound like onlive is a sony product...incase u dont realize they're competitors dumb ass
Nice idea but here in canada most provider use something called bandwitch usage.I have a 50 MBPS connection but i'm limited to 120 gig of download per month.
I know someone that is beta testing it and it rocks!!! If you wanna see a real demo of it being played on a laptop, (No its not an Alienware either) Search for User: Scottblock22 and look for his OnLive video.
Something with this OnLive is going to fuck up. 14.95 a month to play all those great graphics games, and have a crappy PC? 14.95? I don't know. It's just not right. It's going to have a lot of problems when it's first released. I hope these guys aren't Microsoft bastards trying to get peoples money.

ZeroG004 1 year ago
@ZeroG004 It lags, requires internet connection, and you never truly own the games. That alone makes onlive a screw up.
There's also no graphical options (it stays at default), loading times seemed longer for me, and NO MODS

besides, nvidia, and amd are going to be pissed off, this is a crowbar in the face.
Not to mention intel, microsoft, sony and nintendo.
The only ones that wil be happy with this are those motherfuckers of ubisoft, that threat you like a criminal every time you buy a game. Theres no more piracy with this.
I hope this thing fails, this will change everything, and now, you wont need a hardware, you will need a better conection and a paid account...that means more money out of your pocket
sodalmen 1 year ago
@sodalmen Wtf? Why are you defending big companies that basically don't give a fuck about you? This is Onlive is good in every way for the consumer, it gives the consumer a cheaper alternative and creats more competition instead of only being able to chose between the big 3 you now have onlive to mix things up.
LightJehuety 1 year ago 2
In the end, this thing its going to be freaking expensive, you pay, to play. This thing will never beat consoles, you go to a store, you buy a game, and ist totally yours, you can beat it as many times you want, but with this, you need to pay a bill, at the end of the year, tis going to be very fucking expensive. Not to mention that not everyone int te world has a good internet conection.
sodalmen 1 year ago
I wonder about long-term maintenance, if you buy a game, do you still have to pay an access fee? I can't imagine Onlive would like to host a game indefinitely for just a single purchase.

AQWoy 1 year ago
You do NOT download the games. The game stay on their server. It's called 'cloudgaming'. I quote their site: Games run over the Internet from state-of-the-art OnLive game data centers. All the games are downgraded (graphics, sounds, effects) to reduce the bandwith/transfert. Internet is not fast enough today to handle that system. It will but not today (2015). I heard the games are going to be around 15 bucks. That's the price of a used game (in UK). Just watch gametrailer/gamespot for more inf

-you don't actually own the games
-you must pay monthly subscription
-no modding
-games can be discontinued(3 years they say? then its supposed to be over!)
the advantages and features* are over shadowed by monstrously bad bargain
*not needing a pc (while pc gaming has become a lot cheaper than it was), watch other gamers live, no lag or slow down, no need to worry about drivers etc.

well no pc player ever is going to get it. Maybe more the console players.
paddi241 1 year ago
@paddi241 I Think the opposite. Consoles as they are have been very powerful for the money with the only catch that it's only a console. There are plenty of lower end PC users who want more frames and better graphics, who also already have a fast connection, they will use this service.
PucK3001 1 year ago
I'll keep it short: this does away with everything unique about PC Gaming. No more going into the config files to slightly tweak settings. No more forcing AA on games that technically don't support AA (all Unreal Engine 3 games). And most important, no more community mods, which are the lifeline of almost all PC games after about 2 years.
SunStridar 1 year ago 10
@SunStridar However it does let some people with bad computers use newer games. But of course everyone wants it to go away because it cant have mods yet.

I would like to see this service become a success. The market is plagued by piracy (especially PC), if this proved to be a success it could mean more profits for the developers = better games = more people buying the game and throwing out the idea that 'free is better.' Consoles have ruled for over 30 years, it's time to switch to something new, something that can be potentially better for gaming companies and customers, it's time to break the chains from companies controlling console prices.
infernalcross 1 year ago
If this project proved to be a success, Gaming Consoles and Games will drop prices... and the best thing is THERE WILL BE NO MORE 360 and PS3 "My console is better.." FANBOYS!!!
Alieaser 1 year ago
@Alieaser This is where i have to prove you wrong and explain how this service works. Onlive will NOT be able to play Xbox 360 and PS3 Exclusives. Instead it is creating contracts with game developers that do not share contracts with the console companies. The reason for this is that it would be ILLEGAL for Onlive to release exclusives from the systems as sony/microsoft will obviously decline a contract as it would decrease sales. So no there will still be fanboys sorry.
Burrito300x 1 year ago
@Burrito300x .. guess i never thought of the exclusives... i kind of get it now... it's like streaming a game.. like a video stream or whatnot...

Arrionso 1 year ago
So basically this is like if Gamefly made a console you can have to directly download the games instead of waiting for it in the mail? Sounds like something I do already with Netflix through my Ps3 which is awesome. I'm seeing another threat to Microsoft and Sony here...
Gibix 1 year ago 7
@Gibix the thing is how is their server going to handle with out any download and it streams like youtube.....I have to see to belive
acexhearts 1 year ago
@Gibix
It's not really like that at all.
Herzy3 1 year ago
@Herzy3 Well, I wouldn't neccessarily say consoles would be pointless. I mean, I still use my Ps3 as a storage for movies, music, pictures which I'm planning on installing a 400GB Hard drive. Plus, the way I get my movies is off a website the XMB browser bypasses so I wouldn't have to pay for them! :D
Gibix 1 year ago
@Gibix You don't have to download the games you stream them.
CrimsoNShadovv 1 year ago
@Gibix No, this is way better. Cloud gaming. You don't have to download anything but the OnLive app, the game is streamed to you from their high end rigs.
drumb3r42 1 year ago
@Gibix There is no download. You can play the latest game on a eight year old PC.
lokhtar 1 year ago
@Gibix Yea a threat that requires a fast internet connection for the games to run smoothly since thats all they run on. I see another threat were onlive doesnt have motion controllers :)
SPAWN662 1 year ago
@Gibix No, its a "Streaming service" that allows you to play the games without install by rendering the games in their datacenters and streaming a video back down to your PC
KintertainmentFilms 1 year ago
@Gibix That description sounds more like GameTap, where the game downloads and installs. With OnLive, the game isn't run on your system, you just get to play it. It's like having access to the most powerful gaming rig, but it's many miles away from where you're streaming it to.
PucK3001 1 year ago
@Gibix no the game does not download on to your PC / Mac / Microconsole. It is played on a server and all you download is streaming video of that server's screen. All games are already installed on the servers.

qewbert 1 year ago
@qewbert There are supposed to be package deals for long-term subscriptions. Plus, to buy a new game for a Playstation 3 costs $60. PC games don't cost as much as console games, and I severely doubt buying them through the OnLive service will be as expensive either. Plus, you will be able to rent games through the service as well, and play demos of the games before you buy it. You'll probably end up saving money this way.
