  • Very nice, very nice indeed... loved the tone.

  • commissioner gordon is a lame

  • Good Job!

But try putting emotion into your voice over. Seemed a bit rushed. Kinda reminded me of the Thanksgiving trailer by Eli Roth from the Grindhouse double feature. ^^

    But nevertheless... well done!

  • that was simply amazing! i love the comic and this was just perfect!

    good job!

  • This is pretty impressive. All I can suggest is maybe a little more work on the narrative. Not the voice, just the sound quality of it. The action over shadowed the sound of it and I could hear the popping. Other than that small from-the-couch criticism, this was pretty excellent.

  • This is really impressive

  • wow that was amazing. Good job guy!!!

  • If I had to give criticism, the guy supposed to be Gordon talks too fast. A little more emphasis and hesitation in his pacing gives a more realistic and dramatic feel

  • Your audio is very poor... keep workin at it.

  • Yeah! Just read the comic couple of hours ago! Your clip is nice and very close!

  • Year one two? Isnt that year 12?

  • @YoungJusticeRobin year one (pause) two scenes. DUH

  • its too much like sin city..

  • @joker9494949494 It IS based on Frank Miller's Batman Year One. The same guy who did Sin City, so you've got to expect some similarities.

  • @joker9494949494 you're obviously not a golfer

  • @jcdemaria should be more like year one, less like sin city.

  • @joker9494949494 this is exactly like year one. i own it. just read it. and went frame by frame to make sure i wasnt missing something. the narrative is the exact same as the comic and the images are near identical to the stills.

  • The shot at 1:07 is great, but everything else is pretty meh. Felt real rushed.

  • Jeez. Talk about accurate. Had it down to every last pixel.

  • Moviestim I have had Batman year one since I was about 8 years old. it is my favourite graphic novel of all time and you guys could do it justice. I loved it!

  • A direct-to-DVD animated film of "Batman: Year One" is coming later this year.

  • what a croc of shit

  • experiment failed, wheres batman?what's with the guy getting beaten up and not saved by batman and what's with the creepy dude with the gun.

  • @SNAKEEYESSAM Obviously you don't even know what Batman Year One is and didn't bother to do any research before leaving your ignorant comment. I'll wager you don't even read comics.

  • don't listen to the negativity tim... this is effective work (well maybe an effective exercise is a better way to put it). definitely well done though.

  • The language of Comics and Film are two different things. To do a movie that re-creates panel to panel and translate it to the screen doesn’t translate well and doesn’t make sense. What makes a comic to movie really effective is to catch the spirit and essence of the book. The piece looks very nice, but I’d rather see you create your own interpretation from how you felt about the story and translate that to your own style of film.

  • @vargavision I'm glad they didn't take the story and bastardize it. Faithful adaptions of the comics can translate well. The Sin City film is proof of that. Faithfulness to the source material is showing respect to the books, the author, illustrator and it's entertaining to fans to get to see the comics we love come alive on film. Comics are not so different. Comics have characters narration in text to read, film has characters narration in voice over to hear. Comics are also a visual medium.

  • @thecooooolcat It was faithfulness to the VISUAL aspect of the film, but not the essence of the story that counts a lot more than the visual. As I've said before the languages are very different. Sin City was a very good Noir piece, but it was like every other Pulp novel of that genre. Christopher Nolan is an example of what was the essence of Batman is, as opposed to him copying the visual style of Frank Miller or say Neal Adams and Roy Thomas (who virtually re-created Batman in the 70's)

  • @vargavision This fan made film is faithful to the portions of the Batman: Year One story it adapted. It captures the look, the essence, good job. Chris Nolan's Batman films are not an adaption of any one Batman comic, they have been somewhat influenced by Batman: Year One, but are not really adaptions of that comic, thus Batman Begins was not titled Batman: Year One, etc. It was Neal Adams and Denny O'Neil who restored Batman as a dark creature of the night in the '70s comics, not Roy Thomas.

  • This really is excelent!

  • i think i'd enjoy a self aware, sin city like batman movie one day.

  • I thought it was very well done. Wouldn't mind seeing you do more.

  • To @TheBatOfHearts that's not a Sin City style monologue but a Frank Miller style of writing. Miller wrote both books. I always find it funny when people reference other works without knowing all the facts.

  • whats with the Sin City style monologue?

  • I love the fact that Gordon has pink and green flower print sheets. So manly.

  • The V/O is WAY too rushed... There needs to be more dramatic tension.

  • Dude great job. That almost felt like the comic.

  • Looks pretty good. Ever thought about trying 100 Bullets?

  • @hufnmouth That's a great idea, thanks!

  • @moviestim, great job, guys! I'd love to be a part of this!

  • @Iself87 wow someones a little testy. I did research you idiot.

  • Haha, why comics sans dude, oh WHY??

  • I am huge fan of Frank Miller's work and you really captured the spirit, here. My only criticism is that some of the narration in the first scene gets lost over the sound effects. Nevertheless, this was really, really fun to watch and I only hope you do more. You really seem to have a talent for this.

  • alot like sin city

    but still cooooooool

  • All seriousness is taken away the moment you see comic-sans font.

  • Next time I want to collaborate on a wedding video I will holler at you! Hahaha JK ;)

Check out some of the music videos I directed. They are in the favorites on my channel.

  • @moviestim hahaha

  • @jjstudio

This is based on a batman graphic novel that was made by the creator of the Sin city series. Similar style. Your comment = fail.

  • @jjstudio The comic this was taken from, and Sin city were both written by frank miller, so the tone and feel are quite the same. dont'cha feel like an asshole for critiquing now?

  • @jjstudio He didn't actually - this is right out the comic. I say good effort for keeping the noir-ish feel of Mazzuchelli's pages.

  • @jjstudio

The Batman: Year One comic was made by Frank Miller, who also made the Sin City graphic novels. Dude.

  • @jjstudio Would Frank Miller have done any different?

  • @jjstudio Frank Miller wrote Sin City and Batman Year One. Miller's style of prose permeate all his works. So it was a reenactment of the first two scenes of Batman Year One (not of Sin City). Bottom line you have to read more comics.

  • @jjstudio You can apply your same critique to most of Frank Miller's work. You know, Miller who wrote & drew YEAR ONE, THE DARK KNIGHT & 300; same man who wrote, drew & directed SIN CITY.

Many critics have already trashed Miller's constant re-hashing of character types and silhouette images in his graphic novels and films. So, it's kinda obvious that Miller's style would be re-enacted by amateurs & pros eventually, such as moviestim.

I think moviestim did Miller's style quite well, here. +

  • @jjstudio You are so ignorant. Frank Miller wrote Batman year one decades ago. He also wrote Sin City.

  • holy shit his dick is out at 1:23

  • @darthmnky44 its his hand

  • RIDICULOUS !!!!!!!!! :D

  • Pretty damn good!

  • wow you used the comic for the storyboard! Awesome

  • very accurate. Not sure why the superhero cartoons make crappy versions of Doomsday comic and not go frame by frame like this.

  • This is cooler than the other side of the pillow.

  • just finished the comic. Hmmm... In my opinion, your Gordon is speaking a bit too fast. But incredible how you catched the pictures! Big cinema!^^

  • back when commissioner Gordon had balls

  • This is a carbon copy of the comic! Great work. One of the best live action things on youtube.

  • Good work

  • This absolutely rocks!

  • that is very well done!

  • nice, but the sound needs work imo. I listened in 2.1.

  • I like it... you were able to catch the drama of the story.

  • Im so exited to read this book now!!!! Great adaptation

  • Great job! This short piece captures the spirit of the Batman Year One limited series.

  • don´t you wanna make the all movie?

  • Outstanding.

  • Awesome video! Great dramatization and pace.

  • wow, well done guys!

  • good work! love this graphic novel- and the dark knight returns! Frank Miller has reinvented the batman i love! genius...

  • Whoever wrote and acted this really has talent,

  • this was excellent. well done sir or madame. Ever thought of doing scenes w/ batman?

  • I envy you...! I wish I had friends I could convince to act in a play like this. They would probably just respond "you ****ing geek"...!

  • get new friends

  • The baby that's in her stomach? Is she a cannibal?

  • Please tell me that I'm right in guessng you're joking.

  • @DangerDrVenture your comment was funny as hell LMAO

  • This is Awesome.....Well Done to those who made it.

    A Fantastic job

  • Good visuals but the music is not Batman at all.

  • cool visuals,its like a graphic novel.

  • i wish you guyz make one when he gets back at flass hahahahahahaha

  • Great job.... anyone who says different just does'nt know...... I'd love to see alot more

  • I would have actually liked the recent Batman movies if they had adopted your philosophy .

Nicely done,The voice needs work though,Gordon is a grizzled old cop after all.You make him sound too naieve, too soft.

But it's a style I'd love to see Hollywood adopt for Batman.

  • you ignorant person..... Gordon is fairly new to Gotham at the time of Year One.... he is still a bit naive.... maybe you don't like the recent Batman movies cause you don't know shit about Batman, clown....

  • Great job - one of the best storylines of the comic series, and Mazzuchelli's art made it happen.

  • This is a great video but I think it's worth pointing out that DAVID MAZZUCHELLI did the artwork that the shots in this video are based on. It wouldn't have been half as good if he didn't do the illustrations so I think he at least deserves some credit.

  • " ....He even paid for that suit.....

  • Nice vid only problem is that your talkin too fast

  • Brilliant.

    More!

I'd like to see you guys do the scene where Bruce goes to the red light district disguised as the veteran and fights the pimp.

  • You can use a better font rather than using a basic Comic Sans, but other than that, it's a really awesome work. 5 stars.

  • This really is good, but only like big o scary chris said, this isnt sin city. This is a batman movie/graphic novel. so i suppose you do it without the thinking, i dont know.

  • What that fuck!!!!

  • chek out my batman of course thats a wip ( not finish )

  • i liked it

  • listen im not a dick this is good work nice quality, BUT BATMAN IS NOT SIN CITY. its so much more than tough guys punching pussies. dont get me wrong thats good shit. I love marv and everything eles about sin city, but where thats candy batman's cake, and no matter what you do candy is never as good as cake.

  • Frank Miller helped write the 80's rebirth of the Batman story. You know the Comic books.... Year One being the first. He wrote more that just Sin city.

  • Well done video and acting, Narrator needs to be louder. But. please do whole story.

  • DUDE, VERY WELL DONE! I still have the original iddues at home. you captured the comic bookvery well. GREAT JOB!!

  • holy shit man!!! this is awesome!

  • sick!

  • needs an older voice

  • voice over sounds like a 15 year old emo kid.

  • Nicely done... you've duplicated the feel of the book really well.

  • very well done, but voiceover a bit quiet

shame they already made batman begins, coz they cant really make this into a film

  • Should've done the scene where Gordon's fighting Flass. Or better, the one where Batman takes out several police units (and punches a guy through a wall)! Good job thoughh-no, wait--EXCELLENT JOB!

  • Looks great, but I could barely hear the narration over the sound effects/music in places.

  • good acting but voice over was a little too drab

  • geloio katharama, ti sxesh exei auth h malakia me ton batman. sou euxomai ta xeirotera, maurh zoh na exeis

  • Reminds me of Sin City (speaking of practically frame-for-frame adaptations of Frank Miller). Even in Sin City though they pared down the narration and dialogue so it wouldn't sound rushed, as though trying to keep up with the image

    Excellent attempt all together.

    Needs sum batman

  • Pretty cool, Year One is badass.

  • One of the greatest Batman stories...art by David Mazzucchelli is simply uncanny, what an artist.

  • awesome. give us more.

  • 1:23-1:50. it looks like your wang is hanging out, mate.

  • If I hadn't been wearing briefs underneath I would say you could be right. :)

  • @moviestim yeah its just part of the blanket

  • lmfao!

  • @ThingxHulk roflmao

  • I think the voiceover is really good. It's hard to make narration sound natural, so I am really impressed. It does sound a little too condensed though.

  • Nice effort. Could've stretched the dialogue out (not said it so fast).

  • Excellent! Never seen anything like it! You had the panels down to the shape of the shadows! The dialog was rushed, but who cares?! Gordon actually looked like GORDON! Uncanny! APPLAUSE! Go to DC! Show them how it's done!

  • Thanks! The dialog seems to be universal criticism. Someday I will make another one. :)

  • The voiceover sounds a little dull.

  • Wow, normally I hate fan made videos. However this one was really good; even though, I hated the two second or so song at the end.

  • what kind of camera did u use? all i got is a crappy digital camera

  • cool, very cool. i'd love to see you guys do more of this. 5 stars

  • Buen trabajo! Espero que haya más...

    Saludos de Perú.

  • What camera did you use?

  • really great. Awesome direction. but don't forget he paid for the suit too. lol

  • awesome direction and visuals for the most part. Feels like sin city!!! very true to the book , but get a better actor next time, eh?

  • what? Fan films need to show more! This is it? No batman? Sound effects are too loud. Stop making batman seem like a sissy...

  • The voiceover should be a bit slower and louder, with more emphasis on certain words. Great visual style.

  • Nicely done! Very Miller-ish.

  • This Was Serious Frank Miller! not bad!

  • Guess those guys with the bats are Jet fans

  • gooooood

    great work

  • awesome work bro! Year One is an amazing novel and you did an excellent job with the Jim Gordon excert from the book. Great work

  • I thought that was excelent!

  • WOW-that was amazing,great emotion and visuals

  • i'm more of a Frank Miller fan than a Batman fan, but that was pretty sweet. great visuals, did look just like a graphic novel. from Miller's work on Daredevil, and DD and Bats being very similar characters, i would say ya did a great job. just as the others suggest, i would lessen the sound effects and raise the clarity on the narration. but great work, nonetheless

  • please, talk slowly with a little more emotions. Visuals good by the way, 4 stars!

  • Visuals good, but please re-do the voice over.

  • Spectacular!

  • Awseome!!!!

  • very well done...you might as well do the whole thing!

  • Very very good

  • this is good!

  • This was amazing. MORE!

  • I finally read Year one two weeks ago, it's great to see this, being a big Frank fan and all :D

    Good job!

  • Visually amazing! Very well adapted from the graphic novel. My only complaint was the sound effects during Gordon's beating - seemed a bit over the top for the mood. Even still -- very cool, and I hope you get a chance to make more!

  • awesome stuff dude... u gonna make some more??

  • someday, know anyone who wants to invest? ;)

  • hahaha ill give them ur youtube account fo sho bro...

  • Good

  • Not bad. Your visuals were excellent and true to the comic, but (and I mean this in the most constructive way)the acting could use some work.

  • great visuals.

  • Great effort. Nice attention to detail.

  • Awsome!!

  • Say, this isn't bad! Excellent job!

  • My hat off to you. I was gonna click to something else but you caught my eye with the silhouette dudes. Reminded me of Sin City. Good job. Just like the comic. Holly wood really should take notes from you.

  • Hey, pretty good. Keep up the good work!

  • pretty damn good

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too fast.

  • tim tompson should do some training next time

  • yea awsome screening it was all grate, but wen i read i imagined it noway near as fast, i dont thnk u shuda done that fast

  • batman year one has already been done

    its batman begins

  • YOUR WRONG!!!

  • GREAT JOB

  • Cool idea. Nice staging. But the narration was off entirely-not only did the voice just seem wrong, but the pacing was really rushed. Kinda ruined it for me.

  • Fucking Aye!! Well done! Please make more! Please!

  • for a youtube video, it was fucking awesome, and if you would make more, i would definitely keep watching.

  • Me too.

  • I think they beat him for too long at the beginning; otherwise it's great.
