@a3883m I don't know which is more pathetic: the fact that you don't think this is funny, or that you stare at bowls of dog food :s "Would you mind going out and crossing the boulevard when the lights are against you?"
@a3883m You gotta understand that this joke has been "borrowed" and done and redone and played out very many times throughout the years; the Marx Brothers were comedy pioneers... When this came out, no one had seen anything like it before.
"I'm going back and clean the crackers out of my bed; I'm expecting company." -Groucho
I wouldn't say that the Marx brothers' movies are completely free of innuendo, but it's done in a subtle, never raunchy way that it's just pure comedy :)

@doobiesnax that was the point though, because Groucho saw the black hat, and assumed he could catch him red handed like that, only to have him put on a white hat as well.
The weird thing about this scene for me is, I always thought Chico and Harpo looked alot alike in the face, but when they all dressed up as Groucho, Chico looked alot like Groucho in the face and Harpo didn't! WTH!?
360warlock dont understand your statement u lost me with amazon my friend ...whats that? i just want to buy the first 4 movies..animal crackers..duck soup ....horse feathers...coconuts.....read into it !
I was lucky enough to see this movie in a second run movie house and the audience roared with laughter during this scene; I'm not one of those who dislikes all modern comedy but I've never heard laughs that loud during any of them.
And to think there are some idiots who don't believe they are brothers. What a bunch of goofballs. They look identical with the grease make-up. I laugh when I see this scene re-created on I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball was in the cast of 'Room Service'.
This is such pure, classic comedy that I'd have no problem at all showing it to my four year old granddaughter--and she'd get it immediately. Sidebar: those guys were such masters of comedy and timing that I'd bet the it took all of one take to get it done--and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some on-the-fly improv, mostly by Harpo, during the course of such a take.
Party, party, I came here for a party, and what do I get? Nothing. Not even ice cream.
Oh this would be a better world for the children if the parents had to eat the spinach. I'm just gonna go lie down until rigor mortis sets in. I, I , I vant to be alone
The funniest part is 1:36 when Harpo cleverly and simply just does the end part of the movement as Groucho would not be able to see any part of the movement except the end part ne way lol.
Never mind pontificating about Marx history and other films, you lot. Enjoy this, it's bloody brilliant! Especially the dancing part! Oh God, so funny.

This 1933 Marx brothers movie is a complete rip off of Max Linder's 1921 Seven Years bad luck. Linder does this exact same scene but far better. That video is on youtube. Someone uploaded it.
@marxbrosfan1 yeah, saw this whole movie for the first time a few days ago. obviously I had seen this scene a millions of times, but not the movie. but I loved it, and I love them, especially harpo. :)
From what I've read, the reason there is no sound is because the film crew couldn't stop laughing during the scene so they would need to start again and reshoot it. The director finally gave up and decided to go through with it, removing the sound later.
@kyrastube It's Harpo. Chico appears at the end of the scene and is the one who's caught.
Harpo repeated this sketch with none other than Lucille Ball on an episode of "I Love Lucy", with Lucy taking Harpo's role as the mimic. The clip is easily found here on YouTube.
