jimmy bowskill played live in the blues bar i work at this year n he does rock so fuckin hard man so if you lame dickhead wanna talk shit about a 12 yr old just do it in your school
This kid is not just good for a kid, he's a REALLY GREAT MUSICIAN at all! WAY WAY better then 90% of famous musicians nowadays.
Hey kid from this video (now an adult haha) please keep on your AMAZING work. You'll help save the good music along with Robert Randolph, Poppa Chubby, Danny Knowles, John Bonamassa, Mofro and some other ones that plays modern versions of old school good music.
this video is from when he was 11 or 12, i think he's between 18-20 now, thinned out with long hair lol. Amazing though, I've met him quite a few times but i havnt talked with him in years.
Yeah, a pretentious 11 year old. Sure buddy...get a clue. It's a young man playing the music he loves. Get over it. Jealous? Back to your bar gigs playing Brown Eyed Squirrel for drunks and picking on YouTube vids in your mom's basement.
No. It doesn't matter to me how old someone is, as long as their good...This kid's voice isn't matured.. It just doesn't sound that good to me. I mean, if he were playing a bar, it'd be one thing, but I'm not paying to sit there for an hour and listen to him. In a few years maybe...
Holy Moly! That's some TALENT there in the young fella...makes ya believe in reincarnation or somethin! Amazing. The playing alone would astound, but to sing RJ with such authority and conviction beats all.
wow ! this kid sure got it! some people it just comes a natural to them. However, he sure musta practice on that geetar to get that sound . Hey kid-you got it-and you can tell you love it and the blues...all power to ya
this is one of the most outstanding things i have ever seen a kid that young to play the blues with that much feeling is incredible not to mention that is it is a robert johnson song outstanding
you dont have to experience a traumatic event to play blues..its an emotion..that you yourself can release by playing the music...true he is like 10 here..but damn good...
what kinda blues has he experianced??? TIMEOUT!?!?! MOMMY SENT YOU TO BED WITHOUT DINNER??? I mean he's like six. he better be an orphan or something terrible like that.
Who cares if this kid is white or not poor or whatever. The blues has nothing to do with your background, colour or money. Wealth isn't a measure of how much cash you have. You can be rich but still have the blues. Sure this kid might not understand the full meaning of the song but that will come with time. His guitar playing and feel for the music is out of this world. I wish after the many years of playing I have that I could be this good.
Yeah, right... Either you suffer from profound mental retardation or you have a very bad sense of humor. And to all you fukkers talking something bout COB, this song was originally recorded in 1936 so spend a second thinking where might the COB song title be ripped from...The very same guy (Robert Johnson) also recorded a song called "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" which inspired the Katatonia album title...You know there were guitars and "devilish" songs before 1997 for fukk's sake....
All you really need to know about this video is that it is a 12 year old boy singing one of his hero's songs live and straight from the soul. I think it's uncanny. His natural interpritation of the song is amazing for one so young.
This boy got a great set of pipes, but he is singing it way too over the top. It's a bit campy. I'm not sure if listeners are able to connect emotionally. It is very difficult to capture RJ, but I know if this boy continues to sing the Blues, life will teach him everything he needs to know. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing. Wonderful.
I have never been so impressed in a long time. You humble hundreds with this performance, myself included. I've never heard this song been played in such a way, you've changed the way I think about it.
Thank you for this, I have no doubt in my mind I will hear of you soon.
i don't know much bout Robert Johnson's fame or awesomeness as some of others have suggested I just heard this kid singing this song not even two minutes after hearing the original and I admit the kids got talent and no he isn't poor or black(oh well?) but i liked this version, not as much as the "O.G" or Eric Clapton's ver. but it's definitely up their in mah favorites
good sh*t, this kids got talent. and to all the "blues purists" hating on him - YOU ARE THE REASON GOOD MUSIC IS DYING. You don't have to be poor and black from the Delta to appreciate and perform blues just like you don't have to be deaf and German to play Beethoven...damn...
Pussy he used a slide bottle Robert Johnson didn't... oh wait i forgot no one can ever play and sing like robert johnson... but he preety good for someone who is 12
all i want to say if your gonna sing a song atleast be old enough to understand the music your singing. thats like saying im 12 years old and understand paying taxes.
he DOES understand the music ... he wouldn't be have the love and devotion to the music and the people behind the music if he didn't ... check out the clip from "smalltownstrings" called "Truly Local People (Cogeco) Jimmy Bowskill" ... this is an interview with Jimmy. Check him out live, if he ever comes to your town. I've just seen him at Healey's Roadhouse ... a 3 hour performance! He explores his music thoroughly! He's trying out Rock n Reggae now, and mixing his blues in there, too.
Do you think Eric Clapton truly understands what was going through Robert Johnson's head while writing these songs? Mr. Clapton is very wealthy and probably hasn't had to deal with half of what Robert Johnson went through. And I mean absolutely no disrespect to E.C. as he is one of my favorite artists. He is how I even got into Robert Johnson! :-)
Eric was born out of wedlock in a time when that was very much looked down on. He never met his father, who died a hobo in Canada. His grandmother brought him up to believe that his mother was actually his sister :/. His mother basically deserted him and moved to Canada with another man when he was young. His good friend SRV died when his helicopter crashed and his son fell out of the window of a New York apartment and was killed. He knows what tragedy feels like.
Point well taken. But as far as covering another persons song, Jimmy has the same right to cover it as Eric Clapton does. That is what I was trying to get at. I actually never new any of that about E.C. Very sad though :-(
thank you sophistikittenlin, I thought I was alone in thinking that. wonder if/when this kid hits puberty if he'll lose his way high pitched voice? lol.
hey! retards insulting this dude, i mean considering this dude was listining to some of the best music ever recorded at only 12 i think hes pretty dam good and pretty damn respectable
It sounds like he's passing a kidney stone. Hopefully he'll grow up and calm down a little, because right now it sounds like he's about to bust a blood vessel, and it doesn't exactly make the song sound better.
dude robert johnson is one of my favorite blues artists of all time and this rendition is amazing, little kid or no little kid. now hes around my age and i wanna fucking play with this kid now, we could have some sick jams. dude, hit me up if you ever come to new jersey!
anyone ever heard of yehudi menuhin? he played the bach, brahms, and beethoven violin concertos at 12... in a completely masterful way. it is quite possible for a 12 year old to at least emulate the sound he hears on a recording, even if he has not yet experienced the true events and feelings conveyed in the lyrics and music.
HOLY CRAP. I was listening to crappy MTV music at 12, and here this guy is playing and singing Robert Johnson. This guy deserves to be famous. He must be 16 or 17 now, so I'm around his age; I'm 16 and I just started listening to the blues. This f'ing amazing.
if you dont understand what a producer does then i think your the idiot. plus accusing me of name dropping. what was with the Robert, Muddy, and Wolf name drops. if im an idiot then you must be the ring master of the idiot circus.
your gonna tell me he understands fully about the blues. im not saying he cant enjoy it and never said he was bad all i was saying is someone obviously threw this music at him and told him to play it. your gonna tell me a 12 year old kid walked by a blues album playing and goes i wanna play that because it appeals to me. all 12 year olds are gonna be watching mtv or listening to the radio and wanna play whats playing on there. shouldnt be playing something he dont understand
Are you serious? This has to be the dumbest thing I have ever read. You can't categorize an entire age group and say all 12 year olds want to play whatever is being played on MTV. It's perfectly reasonable to say this kid chose to play the blues on his own.
No one should fully understand the blues. It hurts too much. His father played him a Robert Johnson album when he was ten just like mine did with Hank Williams at six years old. I didn`t fully understand any of the lyrics at the time either. I just dug Jambalaya and Hey Good Lookin` cause they jumped. You have to start somewhere. Making money at it this young, well that`s a whole other deal.
Not true. I grew up in a family of diverse music. My dad played in a country music band, my brother listened to rock 'n' roll/metal, and my sister listened to pop. I was the youngest, so what they all did, should have had an influence on me, right? Nope, I got into the blues on my own at the age of 16. I started actually playing guitar at the age of 18 - ON MY OWN. Not once did I ever hear Muddy Waters, or Son House, or even Ray Charles when I was growing up. I found that on my own.
a kid that age definately was forced into playing the blues. no 15 year old or any age near there truelly understands the blues. still good though. but god damn stage parents.
I play with the guy...His parents didn't force hime to anything...he truely loves this music and chose to play it. His parents don't even listen to the same kind of music.
I normally don't dig thses youngster clips because it's usually not as good as the parents think. Don't forget, there are a lot of great musicians by that age. But this kid is excellent and he has soul. I saw Kenny Wayne Sheppard when he was 15 and he was outrageous. Keep it up young brother and maybe I'll see you at 15 too!
Kids this young should never be so damn BLUE!!!

if you dont understand what a producer does then i think your the idiot. plus accusing me of name dropping. what was with the Robert, Muddy, and Wolf name drops. if im an idiot then you must be the ring master of the idiot circus.

I think i may have a grasp on the blues as well considering Ive helped produce several albums with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn and B.B. King.

your gonna tell me he understands fully about the blues. im not saying he cant enjoy it and never said he was bad all i was saying is someone obviously threw this music at him and told him to play it. your gonna tell me a 12 year old kid walked by a blues album playing and goes i wanna play that because it appeals to me. all 12 year olds are gonna be watching mtv or listening to the radio and wanna play whats playing on there. shouldnt be playing something he dont understand
