thats exactly how my daisy is, she's about a year and a half old now, just about got her trained to sit still long enough to put the collar and leash on... lol
we just got a basset hound puppy he is 9 weeks old we got him at 8 weeks. He would walk perfectly on a leash for the first few days, but now he won't even move, he pulls me back towards the house. We walk him on a dog tril that is behind our house. Not sure what happend. I was told that bobcat was spotted in the area..would that be why he won't go because he smells the bobcat?
@cujothedog911 They have MIGHTY noses so maybe he smelled something unsafe. They'll do what you're training them to do unless they don't want to, then.... probably not.
Bassets can be stubborn as hell, but very intelligent and they will protect your kids.
I just sent this video to a friend of mine. He got mad because I didn't warn him there was someone in the video asking "Wanna go for a walk?" His black lab FLIPS OUT when it's W time...lol He used to have 2 bassets. This is pretty much the standard basset reaction. :)
I love them so much I have a girl shes a black and white shes 2 years old and she is just like them.. she is like a sponge when it comes to love she cant get enough
my dog does the same thing when I ask him that, he freaks out, jumps around, whines, barks, howls, all at the same time lol. I will have to get a video and post it up, hehe
@melvinleopoo Gentle leaders are torture devices? I've haven't had to use one, yet, but have trained people in using them, and all they do is tell the dog what you want her/him to do. They aren't always permanent, they're usually a training device. Dogs want to know what you want from them, it's in their nature to want to please us. Makes them happier than clams.
Oh, adorable dogs! Never had a Basset, but grew up with one, Sam, down the street and remember and love her 20 years later.
My basset (which we unfortunately had to put down a couple months ago cause of kidney failure) did that ALL the time, except he jumped like mad and went all crazy. He was a small, skinny Basset Artesian Normand, but one of the strongest dogs I've ever met. Pulled alot whilst going for walks, he loved being outside. Bassets are wonderful.
my basset died but he used to wag his tail like Crazy !!! when i said you want to go out for a walk boy and hes so cute i say this when i saw him whos a good boy whos a good boy whos a good boy
My basset used to do that too. He actually really hurt his throat pulling so hard (any pressure on his neck has him making this horrible choking sound now). So now we have a harness that gets tight around his arms (not enough to hurt him, just enough to be uncomfortable) when he pulls and he's become a joy to walk.
lol when my dog (got vids of her here) sees me put my shoes down, 'cause i keep them on a table so she cant get them and chew them; she freaks out because she knows were going for a walk. lol
